  • people forget one important thing.. that this game isnt planned as a sequel to fear.. first it was only project origin.. but they changed it and made a sequel of it for fear 2.. if u go into this game by knowing this.. the game is actually pretty good

  • So dissapointing game!

  • I don't know i found myself a bit more jumpy in this game during the alma scenes(which were too few) because of the seemingly randomness of her appearances and the visual effects. I would go into a room, grab some stuff and turn around and she wasn't there, but when i went back in the same room she would be standing there. I explore a lot and I found this has happened many times, but the game overall is poorly balanced and not as good as the original in my opinion

  • I really loved this game. Expanded on the first. Holy jesus have you played Fear 3? Fear 2 still looks and plays so organically even today. The graphics are extremely well, even for 2011. I love this game. The third just sucks.

  • In the ending title(that you made) I see you played&liked NOLF. Are you making a review of it someday?

  • But you can still kick people in the face, right?

  • The second game lacks the emotional impact of the first game, yet 'nobody will be paying F.E.A.R. 2 for the story".

I see. Well if the first game was so emotional and well done, it would stand to reason that every fan would be playing the sequal for the story. Isn't that why the first 4 minutes of this review all about the story?

  • @UberNoodleX He said the story was not emotional and well done. According to him, it was a good story badly presented. He believes that the majority of the fans would be playing the sequel for the gunplay.

  • @laifalbert as a big fan of the series, I see the complaints against the latter games as largely moutains made of molehills. Honestly, the first game was no better in story or presentation than the second. It arguably was more technically acomplished but that is debateable and depends on what you look for in visuals. In the end, the hate for the game is another fine example of gamers enlarging problems to excessive levels.

  • @UberNoodleX I haven't seen too many people making "excessive levels" of complaints. Do you mean calling the game terrible? 3/5 is not a terrible score by the way. The rating system this guy uses is well balanced, making 3/5 an average game.

  • Thanks fatman, now I can't enjoy FEAR 2!

What I mean to say, is that in noticing all this stuff, I now can't look at FEAR 2 the same way. It doesn't help that I picked up the original FEAR recently (yes, I started with #2), and it's so awesome I'm keep choosing to play it over the sequel.

The colors thing really is a big misstep. In FEAR I find myself not using the flashlight because enemies notice it, or using my light to lure them to me. FEAR uses light and shadow far better than FEAR 2.

  • I love it when someone absolutely hates a game that means that the game IS a piece of shit and that it's a fact, rather than an opinion. Nothing in this review looks like an opinion, it looks like you didn't get the sequel you wanted and so that means the developers didn't put in any effort. When I play any game even a sequel I never compare it to another game. I just enjoy the game as it's own thing. Even so if I genuinely dislike/hate a game then It's not my cup of tea, and others may like it.

  • @hypershadic88 A review should not be presented as opinion. The point is to express why you have your opinion in a convincing manner. People use reviews to be convinced of whether or not a game is worth a play through. Presenting a review as opinion undermines its very purpose.

He doesn't call it a piece of shit. He gives it a 3/5 which is, on his rating system, ok. If you were to watch more of his reviews, you would see that he would give it this score regardless of the quality of the original.

  • @laifalbert I agree, but in his description he said that he put in the same amount of effort into the review that

monolith put into fear 2, that is a very ignorant statement.

  • @hypershadic88 It wasn't a serious statement, it was a joke. Besides, while quality is subjective, it's hard to argue that Monolith put much work into F.E.A.R. 2 because it was just that similar to the original. Identical A.I. and few new elements make it little more than an expansion.

  • To each his/her own. For me the fear series including the expansions are my favorite horror games and a close second would be the two condemned games.

Here's hoping for a third condemned game too!

  • Dude, the words: "This is not the sequel that F.E.A.R deserved..." do not do this piece of garbage justice. This game is the absolute pinnacle of mediocrity and genericness.

  • @TheEpicfail3000 Well, generic isn't the term to use. What other game looks and plays like FEAR 2? Generic means 'of a type', as in 'generic medicine'. FEAR 2 is hardly the 'pinnacle' of genericness. I'm all for hyperbole, but you've gone over the edge. & a pinnacle is the upmost top, whereas 'mediocrity' and 'genericness' are negative. Perhaps 'nadir' would have been more a better choice. Regardless, the game may be DERIVATIVE, but it certainly isn't generic. Secret Service - THAT'S generic.

  • so antisocialfatman what would you say the best horror game you have ever played ?

  • @harrisonpie Silent Hill 1 & 2, the Penumbra series and Amnesia.

  • @antisocialfatman ahh i think im going to get amnesia it looks alt better then most horror games out there

  • @harrisonpie

Following ASFM's high praise in his review, I tried out Amnesia, and couldn't suggest it higher. Most horror games are games set in a horror environment. Amnesia is a game whose entire goal is to horrify you.

  • After experiencing the awesomeness of F.E.A.R and being disappointed by F.E.A.R.2 I just don't know what to expect from F.3.A.R. a.k.a. F.E.A.R.3

  • My biggest gripe with this game is that it was just far too easy. Each time you won a battle in the original it felt like a great achievement. There's none of that in FEAR 2. The game wasn't much shorter than the original, it's just that you would have finished it quicker because it's so much easier.

  • Becket is the father. (*SPOILER* You know when Alma rapes you at the end, you become the father. This is not the sequel indeed. It should be a prequel.

  • I completely agree with everything you said in this review

  • Although I do agree with most of what you said, I find it sad that you didn't talk about the mechs at all.

    I absolutely loved them.

Monolith's reference to the original, Monolith's reference to Shogo, I felt the segments in the mech suit were incredibly fun and would love to see Monolith make another full blow FPS with mechs. I see why the description is what it is, it's like you said that there were only small negatives, but that hey compiled, yet focused on the individual rather than group.

  • I remember telling myself "I'll read these logs later, maybe near the end of the game" well it's been 8 months and I still haven't read those boring logs!

  • Is it just me or is the frame-rate really bad?

  • I didn't understand a word when he talks about the controls. At about 6:23. What did he say? 'Artical' fps players ? Or what? Would someone please enlighten me.

  • he says,"the oldschool fps players"

  • @Doomer93 Ah I see! Thank you.

  • call of duty could take a lesson or two by the makers of fear on AI

  • @kronenburg77 Your right

  • thanks man your reviews are awesome

  • 1 question:can u do a modern warfare 2 review?

  • antisocialfatman, I cannot agree with you more, especially about the combat. It was lacking 'punch' for me, but I could not put my finger on it. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said, "The sense of IMPACT from the first game has completely gone in fear 2". I agree now its just a silly looking enemy recoil animation with an exaggerated spray of bright red blood. stupid. I loved in the first that the bullets really tore through the enemy clones in a way approaching realism, so intense

  • the bigger the team the less sole a game has.

  • Five Star review. Thank you!

  • Yeah, but neither FEAR is one of them.

  • WTF are you saying this guy makes THE greatess reviews ever

  • elfen lied ftw

  • The only thing I disagree with is that IMO the AI was dumbed down.

Sadly the Monolith that gave us NOLF and FEAR is dead.

    R.I.P.

  • I've had so many instances on extreme difficulty where the enemies yelled "Flush him out!" and just dropped their grenades.

They didn't do suicide bombing AI correctly.

I've also encountered better AI in other games and definitely much better AI in Far Cry, Soldier of Fortune 2, STALKER, and the latter half of Quake 4 where you meet those orange guys.

  • What the hell are you on about?

  • Regardless of how reviewers are paid, the enemies are fucking stupid and you know it.

  • it's bad because marcus beer was not working on the game like he was on the first one.

  • why does he think this is the worst review he made?

  • It is unusual for me to say so, but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this game, AntisocialFatMan. I felt in terms of length and gameplay, it was on par with the first F.E.A.R. I kept looking for the issues you had with it, but could not see them when I played through it. The only issue that I could really take was some nitpicks about the horror atmosphere. It had its moments of brilliance, but there were far too few of them.

  • I would be surprised if there was no fan-developed mod for F.E.A.R. 2 that tries to address many of those little issues. A lot of them seem like they could be easily resolved. Dimming the hue of the blood, replacing a couple of sound effects, adjusting length and dialation variables with the slo-mo, etc. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines had that happen, the community stepping up to complete the polish of the game. Heck, if no one has done it yet, I would have to look into doing it myself.

  • DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!!!! If you need a better story I'd look into it.

  • Actually, just having beaten it this weekend, I am not sure if I would. I have to disagree with AntisocialFatMan on this one.

  • It's a nice review and I agree about his opinion, but he completely forgot the remnants when he talked about enemies! They were spicing up the gameplay a bit...

  • they have? its the same you moron! aim and click on mouse... oh! that is so new an freash!!! -_-

  • wtf are you talking about?

  • "spicing up the gameplay" by what? the exact same thing that every FPS has? wow... how... spicy! -_-

  • There is no such thing as "remnants" in other fps's. I don't think you know what you are talking about.

  • woah jeez kid, it's just an opinion...someone's got a superiority complex :P

  • superiority complex? i have no complexes, i know i'm god.

  • Aww, how I've missed your voice! Cool review, the game looks a bit weird and consoly in your vid, I wasn't expecting that... One thing I can't believe is that you rated a shitty FEAR expansion higher than this. I have not played FEAR 2 yet, but I refuse to believe it's worse than PM, which is mediocrity in a box.

  • PM isn't as solid as F.E.A.R., but it has the fundamentals down just fine (by inheriting them from F.E.A.R.). Its only errors are the pacing and the new enemy. Those aside, it has the same awesome gunplay as F.E.A.R.

F.E.A.R.2, on the other hand, doesn't. It makes too many fundamental errors.

Oh, and PM and F.E.A.R.2 are about the same length. Think about that for a moment!

  • FEAR 2 may very well deserve a 3. I would not know. What I have a problem with is the score you gave PM. It's preposterous, you hear me!! Preposterous!

  • @antisocialfatman

i dont know if I heard clearly or you stated it not, but you have to admit or admitted that the voiceacting of the armacham and replica is terrible. In f.e.a.r 1 I really like the comlinks and voiceacting of f.e.a.r 1 more.

  • i tougth the combine were a much more interestinting(altough less chalenging) oponent than the marines from half life, the us army beeing the badguys has become a clichei in time...

  • Me too!

  • Story wise they were kinda interesting..but they were FUCKING RETARDED!! I like the marines presence is the first Half-Life, even though they were enemies, they were still badass, and don't forget we get to play as Sheperd who teams up with Black Mesa personal in Opposing Force..

  • Your reviews are way better than professional ones, keep it up. Also, hope to see a Resi 5 one soon !

  • @SamBlackmore This guy and the guy from Classic Game Room are the best.

  • i love your reviews

  • nice to see a new review

  • This game was OK.I loved the first fear and i liked this one but ya the ending means fear 3!

  • It's stupid that enemies use lean, but you can't. Creating cover is just a gimmick, it's better to shoot them than wasting a few seconds creating a cover that you can't properly use because of no lean.

The lack of dynamic shadows and of those huge, lovely bullet holes of the first game hurts tha atmosphere.

  • i liked the game quite a bit more than you did, but your review is great nevertheless. it's the only review that i can't pick apart, because most of your points of criticism are on target. very nice.

  • finally! the fear 2 review ive been waiting for from you. i agree, for the most part, wholeheartedly with basically everything you stated in this review. im dissappointed with monolith especially after they delivered me 3 straight titles that i would arguably put in my top 20 all time, then they dump this bland and generic fear 2 at my door and i couldnt help but be severely dissappointed as well.

  • you should seriously consider a profession in reviewing games. I mean this review is FAR better than anything I've seen from X-play or gamespot in awhile. In fact this bested most of igns reviews as well.

Well whatever you decide to do, keep reviewing games! I value your opinion very much, in fact this review alone ensures that I won't be getting FEAR 2.

  • yeah he does great reviews - am honestly surprised he's not a lot more popular by now.

  • alot of people feel that way, 500 people!

  • @ryeguy48

reason IGN, gamespot and all those prof reviews suc coz thay are pros and thay are biased due to that

  • i agree. I was like so excited for F.E.A.R. 2 because F.E.A.R. 1 I just loved everything about it but then it was just like a slap in the face. I WANT A REFUND! 2.5/5 From me

  • thanks for vocalizing the flaws of a game that SHOULD have been awesome. i can't say i didn't have fun with it, but it gives the FEAR series a bad name.

  • The only real criticism of this review that I have is the horror thing. I noticed the opposite, the first FEAR was more atmospheric and creepy, while FEAR 2 seems to rely more on the stupid "jump out and surprise you" tactics. Pretty much every scare is Alma jumping out and grabbing you. Scary the first time, lame after that.

Also, the few good scares are really really easy to miss. Usually you're staring out a window while Alma is behind you hoping you'll look at her.

  • i thought that the elementary school was the creepiest part. they modeled it perfectly, and a dark, evil place that's usually inhabited by little happy kids = a very palpable atmosphere.

  • Yeah, definitely. The school was awesome, second best part of the game. The best part I think was the beginning. They were still doing the same things that made the first FEAR so creepy. After that, it dropped off pretty quick, although the elementary school was still really good.

It's funny, although I agree with everything this guy has said in his review, and although I think the game was nowhere near as good as it should have been, I still liked it. I'm not entirely sure why.

  • i agree with you, and while everything else he states in his review i stand behind, i felt that fear 2 utilized the exact same scare tactics as fear 1 but left off the sense of dread.

  • This is definitely your best review ever. Very Informative.

  • Well Im not playing this shitty game looks boooooooring

  • why is your voice sound like the guy named explodinglamah or whatever his name is

  • "This is probably the worost review I've ever created" what the hell? best fear 2 review i have laid eyes upon!

    as alway great review!

  • Jesus christ, you ripped monolith a new asshole. I hope one of their developers catch word of this video

  • Well deserved score.

  • Since the horror elements in Fear 1 were an afterthought, I was really looking forward to a really devoted horror fps with this one. Looks like I'll be waiting longer for one. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work!

  • i was planning on getting this. but after several reviews i dont feel like it as much.
