At my work, we have a few blasters. We have one glass bead blaster, and a few blasters that use silicon oxide?? I think? Rough grit used for blasting metal off diamond drill bit parts in their raw form. I'm assuming it would be a bad idea to use those, but would it be okay to use the glass bead blaster on my kel tec pf9 slide? And I would I need to do anything besides clean it before I blast it? Also I probably wouldn't want to blast the under/inside of the slide, would I. How would I
@ESGCmfr87 depends on how many colors and if you are going to use a premade pattern from lauer. The quick kit is 29.95 for one color with everything you need. Any other stuff, like blasting, will cost you for the compressor setup and the media. It's pretty simple stuff, just follow the directions and the videos that people post. Get creative with painters tape if you want to do a pattern.
@DdgeluvinHic Glass beads produce a very nice satin appearance but aren't always the best choice. You want to score the surface a good bit for rust bluing or parking.
I haven't experimented with any of that yet. I had used a bead of weld to fill in deep pits before to decent effect. I has to be a very deep pit though.
What PSI are you blasting at? 90 - 100 or could you do something like 60-70 psi for general surface prep? Do you find that regular sand works just as good as 120 grit AO? I may try using one of those portable abrasive blasters from Harbor Freight.
Generaly surface prep could do well at around 80 PSI, but I run ,mine at 100-120 with good results.
The AO is far better for metal prep in firearms. Be sure to get all of it off after you are done though. The stuff will creep into the smallest placees, and you must completely disassemble all parts before using AO.
sandblasting in flipflops. you and me must have taken the same safty classes. lol I'm just passin' some of you vids to a buddy getting read to do some restoring! your the best on here. 5 more strs

Have you ever used glass beads for media blasting? I was just wondering if it would work better or not.

Thats right man.
I've welded in flip flops, too....lol.
Thanks for the support my man.
On a serious note, I normally don't play around when it comes to breathing protection.
That 120 grit AO will kill you quick...lol

Where did you pick up that cabinet? Will it run with glass beads and walnut shells for less material removal? Nice Series... watched all three. :)
satterwc 2 years ago
You can find these cabinets on craigs list, northern tool, grainger, etc.
They will run glass beads, filtered play sand, 120 grit aluminum oxide, walnut shell provided they are small enough to not get hung in the syphon.

what would happen if you sand blasted your hand??? ouch...
RedWhiteandBetrayed 2 years ago
The gloves that I bought for this thing are very heavy duty. I don't think the sand would stand even the smallest chance of getting through.
