To be fair to those magazines, they're not going to name loads of obscure jazz players and the like because few people know who they are. If you take the lists at face value then you're just as bad as you think they are tbh.

And yes, Jimi Hendrix isn't the greatest guitarist of all time, but if 90% of the readers don't know the top 10 then 90% of people probably won't care/ purchase the magazine. The magazine is a business after all, they need to keep it relevant to as many people as possible.
