  • That looks overcooked as many others have noticed. If your butter and eggs are at room temperature it will only take 25 mins in the oven at 180C.

    Personally I find 250g sugar/butter/plain flour + 2 tsp baking powder better than 200g

    If you're worried, take off your own jewellery and put on an apron, it's as simple as that.

  • There are many ways to make and bake a cake. Why don't watchers try this recipe before slating the way it's amde and with what. Variety is key otherwise we would have just one recipe for everything.

    Some of my maistakes have been my best cakes so try it before you respond.

  • This isn't very good, you need to use marge not butter, butter is way too hard on the cake! Thats why the mixture is so thick. Also the temperature on the oven is WAY too hot it needs to be about 170-175 degrees and in a fan assisted oven about 12-15 minutes and about 17-20 on a non fan oven. AND to test if your cake is cooked poke a knife through the cake if the knife appears clean, the cake is cooked, if it comes out with cake mixture on it is not cooked.

  • You should NOT put baking powder in the mixture when you are making a cake by the creaming method, as all the air comes from the creaming of the fat and sugar together, and stabilized when you add the eggs little bit by bit. The baking powder should be used when you are making an "all in one" Victoria sponge - ie when you mix all the ingredients together all at once. With this method, the baking powder does all the work that creaming the fat and the sugar together does.

  • Without baking powder my cake is so flat, baking powder make it much more fluffy and raised and you get a lot more cake out of the reciepe
