From 1974 through 1986 I probably saw hundreds of bands, singers, performers, etc. When I saw this band in some hole in the wall in Atlanta in 1983, they were so unbelievably bad I thought it was some sort of "Gong Show" joke. Hey, maybe it was a bad night, but I doubt it.
I remember a pub here in uruguay on those crazy '80s. They played Violent Femmes all night long so we sang and dance all songs and gets totally drunk wowowowoowow!!!!!!!
I remember seeing these guys play @ Festivals in Milwaukee a few years before this - this is straight from Milwaukee's "hip east side!' Brady Street! Humboldt Avenue! The Site! The Gun Club! Oriental Theatre! Hooligan's Bar! Of course SummerFest! Can't even remember the rest of them - Lots of good times back then in Milwaukee in the late '70s & early '80s!!! It wouldn't seem like it, but it WAS a pretty progressive cool 'big little city!'
its the unofficial australian national anthem lol every aussie bar ive ever been in plays this song and fosters have even adopted it as there advert song
It's actually a Fender Bullet guitar from the early 80s. The were a beginners series and looked like shrunken strat and teles. Fender had them produced in the US as well as Japan. Great bargain guitars, I had 2 of them, still have one.
fradesch85 is right. The host is spoking about a program on the same spanish public channel (TVE 2) broadcasting 2 concerts: "Esportivos" and "Spandau Ballet" on October 1983.
She isn't talking about the band (sadly) she is saying that in her TV Channel something extraordinary happened in 1983, they actually transmitted 2 Live concerts simultaneously in two different cities in Spain and nobody cares to remember that but they wanted to remembering that day. SO there's nothing trascendental about what she is saying ...
haha, it looked like the girl (lol I realize she's probably old enough to be like 45 now) on the left spoke english and and had no idea what that woman was saying at the end....
Yeah, me too. I just found out a couple of weeks ago. I was like 1982? WTF? I thought it was 1991, when I first heard it. At least it sounds like 1991. Goes to show the Violent Femmes were way ahead of their time.
i saw this gig the same day it was played alive in tv. I fell in love with this strange american band until today. Later on, i saw it lots of times in VHS at the library of Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. I think I destroyed the tape myself after so many times.
That's not true. My friend's band performed this song and their vocals were AMAZING! I liked the song much better when I could stand to listen to the singer's voice for more than a couple seconds.
Why 1983 on TV, when the concert was in April 1985 ?
But it was a very very great concert !!!
