  • Why 1983 on TV, when the concert was in April 1985 ?

But it was a very very great concert !!!

  • From 1974 through 1986 I probably saw hundreds of bands, singers, performers, etc. When I saw this band in some hole in the wall in Atlanta in 1983, they were so unbelievably bad I thought it was some sort of "Gong Show" joke. Hey, maybe it was a bad night, but I doubt it.

  • "FASTER!!!"

  • That crowd was like "wtf was that?" they were not ready for the epic sound of The Violent Femmes.

  • Afro?

    newscaster?

    80s?

who cares this is good footage !!!

  • One of the beat songs ever.... Let me go one

  • Some of the greatest times I've had in my young life have this song in the background. I hear this song and I want to bong a beer.

  • ok. i walked in the back door at San Diego State Fall 1991. Free show and a few cigarretes...man good time.

  • I remember a pub here in uruguay on those crazy '80s. They played Violent Femmes all night long so we sang and dance all songs and gets totally drunk wowowowoowow!!!!!!!

  • One of the best songs of 1982.

  • I remember seeing these guys play @ Festivals in Milwaukee a few years before this - this is straight from Milwaukee's "hip east side!' Brady Street! Humboldt Avenue! The Site! The Gun Club! Oriental Theatre! Hooligan's Bar! Of course SummerFest! Can't even remember the rest of them - Lots of good times back then in Milwaukee in the late '70s & early '80s!!! It wouldn't seem like it, but it WAS a pretty progressive cool 'big little city!'

  • Crowd looks like their loving it....oh those mad eighty kids

  • @Thedinny

I think I see a riot breaking out!

  • at 1:50.. does he say faster to his right?

  • isn't it "bastard" ?

  • he's saying "last one" or "last time" i think.

  • @Trains232 "last" to go into the chorus

  • I love the drummer

  • 2:19 - That lady has some great hair.

  • how is this about masterbation

  • How is it not...

  • This is the song that welcomed me into the VF world, oh so many years ago.

  • nice work

  • i saw them in concert and it rocked

  • the drummer stands right next to the others. thats fuckin respectable!

  • hi andrew sarah is poop

  • this song is definitely about masturbation

  • man you say that about everything

  • i think its about heroin..

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for this great vid from the early days ('80s)!

  • The crowd doesn't look very enthusiastic

  • it's the drummers fault. lol

    jk

  • @tuba178---

These are VF fans. We felt there was nothing in the world to feel enthusiastic *about*.

  • its the unofficial australian national anthem lol every aussie bar ive ever been in plays this song and fosters have even adopted it as there advert song

  • what a hair!

  • lol i love these guys though they are kinda creepy (reference Country Death Song) but they are kewl

  • very dirty song.but cool

  • what guitar is that... stratelecaster?

  • Since it's the 80s i'm just gonna assume its a foreign copy.

  • Yeah, it's not as if they were exactly making a huge profit either so I'd say it's a safe bet to say it's an imitation.

  • It's actually a Fender Bullet guitar from the early 80s. The were a beginners series and looked like shrunken strat and teles. Fender had them produced in the US as well as Japan. Great bargain guitars, I had 2 of them, still have one.

  • Wow, they look so young here.

    Classic song

  • masturbation

  • this song is awesome.

  • this is a much better live version fair goes...

  • The band amazing! the crowd sucks with that attitude

  • @saeta They probley dont speak american

  • me no speakos espanol

  • man i was lokkin for the book blister

  • You're either a troll or a moron.

  • I WAS THERE I LOVE VIOLENT FEMMES =]

  • were they high when they played this??? haha... this is the song that was at keiths concert a few weeks ago... got it...

  • that bass is huge, even for an acoustic

  • thts what makes it sweet

  • It's an Earthwood... they're big so you can hear them unplugged

  • please translate what the host is saying at the end.

  • she's basically sayin " that was cool as fook"... or words to that effect...most probably

  • she don't say anything about the violent femmes

  • LOL GOT NO IDEA

  • fradesch85 is right. The host is spoking about a program on the same spanish public channel (TVE 2) broadcasting 2 concerts: "Esportivos" and "Spandau Ballet" on October 1983.

  • She isn't talking about the band (sadly) she is saying that in her TV Channel something extraordinary happened in 1983, they actually transmitted 2 Live concerts simultaneously in two different cities in Spain and nobody cares to remember that but they wanted to remembering that day. SO there's nothing trascendental about what she is saying ...

    I LOVE VIOLENT FEMMES!!

  • People didnt dance at that time. YOu wouldnt risque to lose your cool.

  • haha, it looked like the girl (lol I realize she's probably old enough to be like 45 now) on the left spoke english and and had no idea what that woman was saying at the end....

  • inda looks like the guy from bourne sumpremacy

  • lol people doesn't dance to this song!I couldn't resist to dance with a so cool song :)

  • wow I had no idea this song was that old

  • Yeah, me too. I just found out a couple of weeks ago. I was like 1982? WTF? I thought it was 1991, when I first heard it. At least it sounds like 1991. Goes to show the Violent Femmes were way ahead of their time.

  • I like how the drummer goes "Screw the regular drums, we are going to use a few drums and create a really cool sound."

  • it the eighties guys ! and this was eighties at its best ! Femmes Rock ! mmm the memories !!!!

  • I feel totally out of it. I heard of them in the 90's I was born in 78 anyway I had no idea they were from then. Cool. I guess. Or should I say duh?

    YC

  • i saw this gig the same day it was played alive in tv. I fell in love with this strange american band until today. Later on, i saw it lots of times in VHS at the library of Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. I think I destroyed the tape myself after so many times.

  • First time I have seen a crowd sleep at a Femmes concert.

  • takes me back to my backpacking days in Australia

  • Que buenos son!!!

  • dats a deadly son

    end of ....

  • i like tis song but the dudes look very weird....

  • it's the music that matter, not the looks..

the femmes rule!!! nobody can't fuck w/ the violent femmes!!!

  • What's up with that Fro!?

  • great song!!!

  • I agree, but the vocals could be much better.

  • That's what makes the song as great as it is! Perfect vocals would bring it down.

  • That's not true. My friend's band performed this song and their vocals were AMAZING! I liked the song much better when I could stand to listen to the singer's voice for more than a couple seconds.

  • ya his voice could really improve live lol

i love the live version though lol. Its my myspace song!

  • Honestly, I agree with Melissa. I'd prefer this song with the vocals as is.

  • great video where did you get it?
