There is a difference between hitting your children and beating them, I feel compelled to point out. I would never hit my own children, but I was hit as a child. The problem is that more often than not parents are hitting their children out of anger, not as a preventative or punitive measure; at least, that's the way it was with me. I wouldn't necessarily disagree with hitting an extremely wilful teenager who responds to nothing else, but I would never do it myself. I'd hopefully never have to!
