  • Great to see you back James , we love these productions -& the humour > hope your headed for T.V or more - and from me only knowing the basics of DMX -now I know most of it ( DMX 512 ) on moving heads -LED washes and YES EVEN laser animation> 2 web sites -Hope you do get to the top of the ladder - I have seen what you can do -one thing -pos a " TIP " why ar'nt you on LINKED IN ?? and if theres a web site -where is it ??? John @LIVE4AIR.com & John @oxford Event lighting Best regards :)

  • hi great vid funny as always your a genius!, you should do more :) your vids inspired me to get into the world of dmx programing, im using magicq pc off your recommendation, just about getting to grips with the basics, iv got simple cue stacks looping but havent got a clue on how to make stand alone shows to songs ect like the ones in your vid, would be very appreciated if you could help or even do a video on your wizardry programing ha, keep up the good work and good luck in your 3rd year, adam

  • what lighting board / lighting software did you program this on

  • @djscottdog1 hi - it was done on chamsys magic q pc - on a pc, not the actual posh chamsys lighting desk as we would probably have to sell off all the lights in order to afford one! james

  • @jamesb1919 yer i know they are expensive, wouldn't mind one, is the software good because that was some awesome programing. looking for a better solution for controlling my lights and this looks like it has impressive results. thanks for replying

    William

  • @djscottdog1 oh thanks! Yes its very good software for free - when you use it on a computer it is evident that all the buttons line up around the screen as if your monitor was the screen on the desk, which makes things a bit fiddly sometimes. The best way i'd describe it is that it's mainly 'theatre-based' - you would ideally sit in front of it lifting faders onscreen (ie. manually) - but it is possible to set up 'standalone' shows that can loop - like you saw in the video. James

  • @jamesb1919 sounds gr8 might get it , dose it work with any dmx interface block thingy and do you think it would be an idea to use a touch monitor with it, thats what i might do ,because the one thing that has always put me of software is having to use mouse with faders and especially rotary pots. ill send im my subscription fee next week lol

    william

  • @djscottdog1 @djscottdog1 ooh yes get a touch screen - all the more fun! there is actually a 'touch' view on it that makes all the buttons bigger so it's easier to press! It works with many different interfaces - i've got the bargain basement maplins velleman one, but it also runs with at least ten other popular models. I was asked about this by 'lampshadej' last year – user called James – he tried it out on a touchscreen - might want to give him a shout. James.

  • @jamesb1919 thanks alot m8 , you have helped me out heaps

  • @djscottdog1 no problem sir.

  • @jamesb1919 see the dmx interface you mentioned , the one from marlin , is that the one you have to build your self. lol i love soldering

  • James you are truly one of a kind. Hope you had a fantastic christmas and I'd much appreciate your company new years eve at the Tullett/Snook residence. There shall be consequences for such an unkindly absence god forbid. See you soon!

  • how did you get into helping at Glastonbury and other events? is it just though a company you work for? I love doing lighting but at the moment I am limited to 8 robe heads, (4 spot, 4 wash) and a whole load of generics, and a sh%+y LSC Maxim Desk.

  • @MyWorldIsTech Hi - i don't work for an events company as such, but our university has a production company called Solent Productions that gets called upon to produce coverage of various events - so that's how I'm able to get involved with stuff like Glastonbury etc. (they've been doing it for about 18 years now) - I'm very lucky to have all this obviously. And that's 8 more robe heads than i have! Are you part of an events company yourself then? James

  • @jamesb1919 Our school revived a performing arts grant 6 years ago and got some half decent equipment, I been there 5 years and I am now in Year 12. So I have helped with all the shows and events and I Love it. But especially Lighting. I started using chamsys after you suggested it!

  • @MyWorldIsTech No I am not part of a company (Just the school) but I do do other work experience at a local theatre and other company's!

  • @MyWorldIsTech Oh excellent! Using chamsys after I mentioned it as well! Haha. So do those moving heads belong to the school then, or are they yours?

  • @jamesb1919 They are the schools heads. 4 Robe Spot 250xt and 4 Robe Wash 250xts

  • Love the videos ! keep up the good work, what course are you doing at uni. I'm doing engineering but have always found my self drawn to effect lighting and production. Also what strobes are you using there i want to get one with the blinder effect that's not stupid expensive. Also merry Christmas :)

  • @4815162342SW Hi thanks for your kind comments! Well I'm doing a degree in Outside Broadcast Technology (third year now, aahhh!) so video engineering and transmission is what I want to go into, but rather like you I've always loved lighting design etc. And the strobes - they are actually Equinox EX2500 - one either side on the back lighting bar. Don't remember them being too expensive, and they've got that all-important blinder function! Not DMX though. Happy new year! - James

  • @jamesb1919 Thanks a lot for the reply. It looks like an interesting course, hope your final year goes well unless your doing a placement :). I've been looking everywhere for cheapish strobe with a blinder function thanks so much :) keep up the good work and amusing videos :)

  • Nice!!! do you use that lighting in the last clip for shows there? or is it just personal pleasure lol

  • @lifeboats1 Thanks! Well it was all for a mate's big party we had in April - we spent about a week hanging everything up and praying nothing would fall down! We'll probably never set as much as that up again now though, which is a bit sad! It was good to see what I programmed running for the first time with lights though - I did all the chamsys programming by total guesswork at home! I've got pages of dmx value tables I made for this etc! Happy new year! - james

  • Oh, I posted the last comment before 4:58... Sorry! Good guess though - Merry Christmas.

  • Which University are you at? Southampton Solent - I presume?

  • ooo ooo ooo, check out my channel, i've some of my own rather pointless lighting videos with fancy led things and half a broken scanner

  • Another great show :D

what university do you go to and what course?

  • Your videos are most certainly worth the subscription. Merry Christmas and I hope to see more of you in 2012.

  • merry christmas from scotland , have a good one m8

  • God how I've missed you ... How's you? Also merry christmas and a happy new year . That 60 quids on its way from DVD profits ;) if you had seen from my videos I had a mojo spinmaster 3 till the bulb literally exploded.... Yeah do it's brilliant to see you back just before. Christmas.....

  • @mvinaround Oh you're off again pirating all my material! I'm still waiting for my £400,000 share from last series. Happy new year mate!

  • @jamesb1919 Oh, That £400,000 must of got lost in the post... or the government have taxed it all

  • @mvinaround oh well better luck this time. Obviously I'll want a bigger share this time as well, but you send on the 14p whenever you feel like it.

  • @jamesb1919 its on the way, Happy New Year To you... hope to see you next christmas when you finally upload another video ;)

  • @mvinaround haha yes very good - i'm running out of stuff to do videos on now though! It was easy in the beginning because we had all these lights to demo etc - now i've stopped buying stuff it's a lot harder!! Believe it or not - I do have a small amount of quality control over the content of these! Very small, though.

  • wish you a merry x0mas from canada cheers!!!!
