  • Where was The Stig?

  • Ah, three 7yr olds playing. Top Gun....Top Gear....Top Guys :-)

  • I prefer the Mustang but man the Spitfires are good looking

  • hey look those are Canadian spitfires :D

  • PT462 G-CTIX.

  • One I know about, the one with the dragon on the tail (PT465...I think) it's based round here (rhuallt) in N Wales and does a lot of shows locally. It started life as a single seater aircraft and saw combat in the Arab Israeli war. It was found a few years later in a kibutz in a bad state of repair. It was brought back to the uk, restored then shipped to the USA. More recently brought back from USA and converted to a 2 seater trainer...google dragon spitfire also on Facebook...hope that helps w

  • What are the back-stories on the planes. Two of them had RCAF logos on them.

  • what series is this?

  • I hope that they turned off the intercom for the pilot in front of Clarkson haha

  • They had fun taka taka tak tak takaka I loved the battle of Britain theme tune;)

  • The Battle of Britain was actually won by the Hurricane ;)

  • @IonicRipper01

Yes: during the battle of britain, in the most case, the Hurricanes attacks the bombers and flighter bombers and the Spifire the fighters (Me109's).

  • If he thought that was great, he would have shit his pants if they took him for a ride in a F4U Corsair

  • Welsh flag on May's Spitfire :D

  • Love ya Spitfires!!!!!

  • this video produced emotion on me...truly wonderfull feeling can be when all those 12 cylinders are firing ahead with you !! great planes , spit fire ...messersmith ..biplanes ...

  • @Gioagla and of course the japanese mitsubishi raiden !

  • Forgot to add: Screw those who don't get a ride! Find out what "the other guy did" to be able to sit in the seat - ask him!

  • I agree with some of the other "originalists"; don't care for the "two bubble" version - sorry mate!

  • No spitfire ever came out of the factory as a two seater. All of these examples have been modified.

  • Jeremy is like a 5 year old kid here haha. He must have been sooo excited.

  • Poor deformed Spitfires. :(

  • @qwasd0r

In what way? Thats the trainer version...not something made up for joy riding.

  • @qwasd0r aahhhhaa...hh you re crazy man ..haahahaah !!you made me laugh as hell !

  • @maxilian "fulfilling their and almost every man's childhood dream, to fly the mighty Spitfire." - Maybe almost any man from the UK. ;) Mine was always the F-14 Tomcat.

  • I`m german but the Spitfire is one of the greatest masterpieces of British engeneering ! God bless the UK

  • @TheEMS41 And if it not for the absolutely brilliant Messerschmitt 109, the Spitfire would not be as great as it is, and I'm British.

  • @viewson800 lol ok and why is your aircraft not as good as the german one ? I like the Spitfire so much in my opinion a great airplane ! :-))) god bless y take care

  • the spitfire is a tits airplane awsome like tits big skwishy tits my favorite airplane.

  • Not to worry mates.

If the battle of Britain went badly the Yanks still would have straightened things out over there . Don't go loosing any sleep over it now.

  • bloody good show old chap.

  • com on Jeremy, give credit to the Hurricane too!

  • its awesome to see the boys enjoy the freedom to do this, but as Jeremy said without america intervention, hitler prob, would have won, so when Jeremy comes to the states and disrespects the usa, it gets under my skin, cause america gave a lot of men for europes freedom, back in the day,

  • @MOVIMKR7 You do realize that most of the things he says towards the USA are in jest. Obviously you cannot expect him to love the states, but he wouldn't get good ratings in the UK if he didn't toss funny insults around towards us.

  • @abkimball84 ...or especially towards the French. (Cheese eating surrender monkeys)

  • @MOVIMKR7 You're forgetting the few million of Russian soldiers...

  • @666Tomato666 Im certain youre refering to all the Soviet citizens, sacrificed at the altar of Stalins cult of personality. His collusion with Hitler and Nazi Germany in the invasion and occupation of Poland which started WW2? Which led to the death of millions, not just in Europe, but also gave the Japanese Empire a "green light" in the Pacific and Asia? No, we wont forget that either.

  • Wonderful aircraft, thank you

  • 22 people flew Me-109's in the Battle of Britain

  • How I sooooooooo want to be them1

  • Why is Jeremy the only one talking/screaming?

  • @TheAllboutwin the oldest

  • true the U.S. Navy did help at Coral Sea but have you heard about the bombing of northern Australia? The Poms go on and on about the Battle of Britain which is fair enough but we we're hardly told anything about the Battle for Austalia. The fact is the R.A.A.F. fought the Japanese over Australia and defended our country using Spitfires.

  • it also saved Australia from the Japanese/

  • @nphanlon1973 That was the US navy that did that.

  • What Englishman could not feel orgasmic in the Cockpit of a Supermarine Spitfire? It's A American not liking BBQ or Bald eagles. And to fly 3 in formation With his buds. What a dream. I must have missed this Episode?

  • haha captain slow just says " thankyou very much " after the barrel roll meanwhile the Hampster is quietly peeing himself and Jessa is very visibly (and understandably) about to pop with excitement ...freakin awesome that all three were able to get airborne at same time !!

  • i love how hammond doesn't say a word. too busy just enjoying himself

  • @BritishHistoryWWII US built the P51, It was built by North American. It originally had an allison engine that proved to lack the power needed. That's when they got the license to manufacture merlins in the US

  • An experience more than a challenge in a legendary aircraft, however having done aerobatics in a two sweater aircraft, the challenge would be keeping the contents of your stomach in your stomach!!!lol

  • it not really much of a challenge sitting there though, is it?

  • @drake, spits are single seaters, however they did make twin seated training conversions

@USS have you got a Death wish wanting to fly a bf109??? My top 5 are:

    1.spitfire

    2.hurricane

    3. P51

    4. Tempest or typhoon

    5. Mosquito

  • top five planes i want to fly are:

    1. P-38 Lightning

    2. P-51D Mustang

    3. F4U Corsair

    4. Spitfire

    5. BF-109

  • @BritishHistoryWWII

you forgot to mention that it was the british that built the p51 aswell, p51 used a rolls royce engine.

  • wasnt the spitfire a single seater?

  • 2:10 richard hammond :D

  • @mpetersen I don't dispute that, the point I was making was the Allison engine wasn't suitable for purpose, in the theatre of warfare it was being asked to perform in, hence the change to a merlin engine. The other point I was trying to make is that you can't really compare a P51 and a spit or hurry, as they weren't designed for the same purpose. Spit and hurry for home defence and P51 for long range fighter bomber..all three fully fire filled what they were designed for and all three are legen

  • ahahaha xD

  • is this duxford?

  • @MGPauerfunkexD Yes, it is.

  • 20 people wants to fly a Spitfire, but can't.

  • To add to my last comment, the spit was designed as a short range, high performance interceptor, whereas the p51 was designed as a long range fighter bomber. The spitfire for filled its role and was adapted to meet numerous requirements whereas the p51 fore filled its role once the British merlin was indtalled:)

  • @kwakizxr Including Naval fighter. Don't Forget the Seafire....

  • @1998 and others the spitfires featured are conversions from originally single seaters. For example the 'dragon' spit is based down the road from us and saw combat as a single seater, before being abandoned, rebuilt then converted. The spit was never designed as a long range bomber escort, as the Americans didn't want to join the war, they had time to develop such planes as the P51!!! Matter of fact the Allison engine in the p51 was crap and until the Americans could come up with a suitable eng

  • @kwakizxr The engineers at Allison had designed the V-1710 to be equiped with a turbo-supercharger as per the Army Air Corps requirement. As a result they never put the engineering effort into the gear driven supercharger that Rolls-Royce did. When the levels of production for engines and airframes were ramped up they way they were in WWII all of the turbos were needed for radial engines in primarily bombers.

  • way to go British...

  • 20 people are fans of Hitler.

  • @BritishHistoryWWII brits and your bias. P51 had superior range to the spitfire. Also it is a far better looking plane, which was my original point anyway.

  • amazing how the pilot managed not to crash despite all of clarksons bantering in the back seat

  • these must be remakes as i don't think the ones used in ww1 had two seats

  • @1998olie there were no spits in ww1

  • @BritishHistoryWWII Not quite, the P-51D has a greater range, could carry bombs and is faster than the Spitfire Mk V, in fact it could out perform the Spitfire Mk V in almost every aspect and this is coming from me... Mr Spitfire! :-)

  • The only thing missing is the machine guns hammering !

  • not a patch on a p51

  • Pause at 2:10. haha!

  • Hammond: *quietly smiling*

    May: *quietly smiling*

Clarkson: SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT TAKA TAKA TAKA TAKA TAKA TAKA TAKA MORE SHOUTING

  • what a buzz that would of been, flying with your mates in spitfires. Clarkson's a very proud englishman & should be running the country.

  • Clarkson british fag

  • 1:53

    Wargasm

  • @rafflb I think that woukd be EVERY red-blooded male's reaction to flying in a Spitfire!

  • Comment removed

  • Love the expression on Richard's face :D

  • I'm Going to be sitting in one of theese soon with the BBMF :)

  • Clarkson looks even more of a dickhead in gogs and radio hat than he does w nothing.

  • That´s flying on the History wings, isn´t it?

  • i must say that although the spitfire is a great plane in my opinion the Hurricane is the best..

  • I would give my lest testicle to fly one of those legendary war birds

  • your actully flying supermarine spitfire MK1A

  • lucky guys

  • I just love the sound of those old warbirds, that Rolls Royce Merlin engine...

  • How Germany could've won the war:

By never stepping into the USSR.

Without the USSR, Hitler would have all of Germany's forces concentrated on Britain and not on the eastern front.

Without the eastern front to get in the way, Hitler would've eventually toppled Britain.

Without Britain, Operation Overlord (D-Day) would have failed, if it even existed.

All of Europe's powers would have been conquered by Hitler.

By attacking the USSR, Hitler had signed his own death warrant.

  • @Zvesda You know D-Day was americans? also if Hitler didn´t started the war at winter he could have had a better chance to win the war

  • @Masterfighterx Was Americans, Canadians, English, infact just about everyone was involved in D-Day. And thank god he didn't start the war in winter.

  • @Flyberius He did start at winter September 1st 1939 but if it was at summer it could have ended otherwise.. it was because of the oil, and they frose and stuff..

  • @Masterfighterx D-Day was an allied effort, with people from all over occupied europe. And Operation Barbarossa (The attac on russia) started in the summer, not the winter. read up on history please.

  • @Zvesda

    you are so VERY wrong,

germany used every last plane it had in the battle of britain, germany started useing pilots from the age of 14, because of the shortage, only bomber planes and stukas where used in russia, but all fighters where in the battle of britian.

  • 19 Germans watched this video.

  • @celt67 *lol* I don't think so. I think most Germans have come to an end with that behaviour. Vertraue mir! :-)

  • I can't imagine there being much better in life than piloting a Mustang or Spitfire.

  • @hannas1234 Yes it can, piloting the fw 190 :)

  • @hannas1234 Maybe a Messerschmidt?

  • I prefer the sound of the Merlin, but the Griffon engined Spitfires are great too, their increased performance is obvious. Someone mentioned P51 Mustang much better. Yes it had a far greater range, was responsible for nearly 5000 enemy aircraft shot down, sounds great with the Packard engine ( a licence built Rolls Royce merlin engine), but it only became great because of this engine, the old Allison units underperformed. The Spitfire is just in a class of it's own, graceful and beautiful!

  • @paulj0310 best engine of the War... the Rolls Royce Merlin a war winner

  • It's Not Only Boy's That Want To Do That, It's Also What I Want To Do And I'm A Girl! Around The Age Of 15

  • Those 3 guys are the luckiest in the entire world.

  • Wonderfull!

  • DAGADAGADAGADAGA I"M WEARING GOGGLES!

  • May I ask you for which episode is it please? :)

--> Im sorry, I won't search it in comments :)

    Thanks! :)

  • @UnBreadCZ This is extended footage from their spitfire flight in episode 11x06 and it was taken from Top Gear Challenges 3 DVD.

  • Lucky, Lucky, LUCKY bastards!!! I'd give BOTH my kidneys to be in their position!!

  • Clarkson is wrong, the US was planning on a direct invasion of europe in the even of a UK surrender.. the B-29 and even the B-36 was designed to bomb Germany from US bases

  • @pauliewalnuts1156 What a load of bollocks.... seriously you really need to read your history and also while you are at it check out the "Atlantic Run" for the US planes flown from Canada to the UK! And Also please remember that it was almost two years after the Battle of Britain that the US entered the war and mainly because Hitler declared war on the USA after Pearl Harbour!

  • @pauliewalnuts1156 Typical fucking yank, give it a rest will ya?

  • @yatter1 no need to curse... I love the UK and the people there.. we are brothers...The War in Europe would not have been won without the partnership of the UK and the US. The UK has my undying respect for standing for freedom alone. Indomitable. and I also LOVE Top Gear UK.. the rest are rubbish

  • @pauliewalnuts1156 I don´t disagree with anything you just said, still, give it a fucking rest will ya yank?

  • @yatter1 once again... no need to be profane.. and I would like Clarkson to maybe give America Bashing a rest too? I mean going to Vietnam and saying stuff like he did? 60,000 Americans died there... great episode, didn't need the low brow remarks.. agree?

  • @pauliewalnuts1156 You just don´t get sarcasm and irony, I never met a yank that did.

  • Read about 303 squadron fighting in Battle of Britain ;)

  • Ahahah... Jeremy is such a child at heart :P

  • I think they have the best job in the world !

  • 'This Spitfire saved the world from hitler"...actually the Hurricane did more than the Spitfire.

  • @njdevil281 true that.

  • @njdevil281 You are absolutely right! It's one more of the WWII myths.

  • @njdevil281 yes it did but still, the spitfire did help save the world from hitler

  • @njdevil281 When Adolf Galland was asked what he needs to win the Batle of Briton he simply answered "Spitfires". It's not only a game of numberes

  • @njdevil281 That was still a great plane :P.

  • if ind the stuka better xD

  • Hurricane was the backbone of the RAF at the time.

  • Actually the Hurricane went further in saving England from the Nazis.....and if you want to go further, the top-scoring RAF squadron during the Battle of Britain was a Polish one. Lets at least get the History right!

  • @hipcat13 Thats a BS Czechoslovakians were the best

  • @Leon1700 Nope. Look it up in the RAF archives if you don't beleive me. If it helps your bruised ego any, some Czechs served in Polish squadrons. I know my Dad's had a couple.

  • LMFAO Jeremy is like a big ugly-ass kid having his most dearest dream come true!

  • @ABD238 that's exatly what I was going to day. The hurricanes played the role of shooting down Luftwaffe bombers.

  • Must be the age, Hammond doesn't give a horses arse, cause he doesn't have a clue what a Spitfire is or was. Ignorant shortarsed brummy.

  • @drstevenrey jealous much?

  • @sandynathan Last time i checked North American Aviation is based in the good old USA. The only thing english on it was the Roll Royce Merlin engine. The body/frame was designed by AMERICAN plane designers so tht the english plane companys could continue to build the fighters and bombers they already knew how. Learn your history.

  • really must have been clarckson's life dream!

  • P-51 Mustang way better

  • @Jaszczap912 hmmm seeing that the british designed the mustang and the us asked for the design rights

  • I can imagine the pilots switched to a different radio channel for the sake of their ears :)

  • Kids.... :)

  • Not just the Spitfire! The Hurricant played a vital role too.................................But the Spitfire is just to much more beautiful!

  • Great looking planes!

  • aztaclaz that is a nice re-write of history. Russia did nothing until attacked by Germany. Russia along with Germany attacked poland in 1939. Russia was pals with Germany until they were attacked by Germany in 1941. Two years after the start of WWII. The U.S. had a huge role in saving the world from Hitler as well as Isoroku Yamamoto.

  • @TheMILVET yeah but you wouldn't of done anything if the battle of Brittan had been lost we owe all we have to the british and im Irish so that;s saying something.

  • Im wearing googles!

  • UK and Russia saved 'the world' from Hitler. Not USA. USA did help out, yes. And they made it go a lot quicker. Russia would've taken care of Hitler though with Britains help. Britains air force and naval units = amazing. Russias tanks and... Well, crazy fucking infantry, roflmao. = Win.

  • check out this spitfire guys if you like the sound of a merlin at full tilt!!!!!

  • Ummmm what about the Hurricane?

  • Two things. 1. Since when has there been 3 airworthy two seat spitfires flying at the same time in the UK?. 2. The insurance cover for 3 high paid presenters for this in historic planes must of been immense!

  • @spitfire1936 You're talking about the BBC.

There are more than 3 flying spitfires in Britain you know....

  • @DrHooty911 Aware of that there are probably around 23 flying in Europe but my question is 2 seaters are as rair as rocking horse poo!

  • @spitfire1936 How do you know. Maybe these are ones specially kept by the RAF or some conservation group.

  • @DrHooty911 About 5 years ago due to a crash there was only one 2 seater flying in the UK. It seems that since then 2 more have been brought back from the dead. See.tigerairways website for details

  • @spitfire1936 It isn't too hard to restore aircraft you know.

  • @DrHooty911 try it look how long it took them to restore the vulcan xh558 it took two years if its not hard then we really could have put you to good use while the project was at hand

  • @DrHooty911 Really? Then why are there not more restored planes about? Why are there so many old planes parked on the Mojave desert in America? Get a grip. Restoring anything is an extremely skilled, time consuming, painstaking operation that only extremely capable people are able to perform.

  • @DrHooty911 Maybe not, but it's a long, labor-intensive effort that takes a dedicated team.

  • @spitfire1936 Obviously you need a pair of glasses. At least one of them was sporting the Maple Leaf and an HSBC logo - it, at least, is from Canada. Not hard to ship a plane, if you're the BBC.

  • @Brok3nC4rrot You can paint anything on the side. Owners often change the paint scheme every few years to represent different squadrons. 2 years a go a 2 seater came up for sale at auction for £2m. There is no way the BBC would pay or garee for a plane of this value to be dismanted, crated up, insured (only 6 in world ultra rair so not the price of a Porsche 911!) and shipped from overseas. Rebuilt, tested, insured for 3 celebs as passegers and flown for a 5 minute piece of film!

  • Are these spitfire built in WW2 or rebuilt after war?

  • T34s and 14-year-old kids making those saved the world from Hitler

  • THE BEST!!!

  • Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built.

  • I am so jealous right now!!!

  • Jeremy is just so cool. Great man.

  • LoL at richard... he's like a little kid, that a smile just got bigger and bigger throughout this clip.

  • 2:02 James's Awesome Face

  • Duxford

  • grrrrr dakadakadakadaka grrrrrrrrr I am winging this one!

  • i love the spit fire its my favorite plane

  • Anyone know where the Clarkson 'mute' button is?

  • @alfamonk right next to the stigs helmet lock.

  • Hammond stoned?
