Well first off i don't agree with what Roger did whatsoever but the major difference between now and then is that it seems like people who act or promote this kind of behavior(Jackass,Lady Gaga,Kardashians,Reality Shows)are not only getting more acceptance but are also aplauded, respected and celebrated in a very big way nowadays.
Imagine if he or anyone else thats hugely popular in the entertainment world did that today?.
This embarasses me as a Canadian.....Would you do this before pavarotti was to perform? A Pink Floyd concert isn't some place to be wasted partying. Its a mind blowing experience that should have your complete attention. Quebec acting silly again
lemmeseehere, Roger Waters, Axl Rose, Steve Perry, what other frontmen for bands have stopped a performance to take a personal interest in their fans' attention and the band's safety? Call it arrogance if you like, and some of them may have taken it too far, but it seems like common sense to me. Fireworks? Seriously?
Hey Roger can you say...CONCERT not studio?! so much for live albums lol. Take your liberal attitude and the rest of you bleeding heart liberals to a nonsmoking whiner bar where serve milkshakes! You theme song should have been...when the Walls come tumbling down humm guess thats why the boys got rid of you.
@adamwood0808 i did listen to pulse and it sounded nothing like the real pink floyd I know, and how are you not putting roger down, you just said whatever the fuck his name is is twice the bassist
@adamwood0808 O shut the bloody fuck up with your david gilmour ignorance, I perform pink floyd at big concerts, I've played shows before, and many of them are in favor of roger waters, he's my hero, and always will be, if david gilmour wrote most of their albums then pink floyd would be nothing more than a folk rock band, gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists but for fuck sakes he shouldn't write songs, roger is the biggest part of pink floyd, he is the ultimate music genius and he rocks.
Pretty funny, imagine setting off fireworks at a show today...you'd be promptly escorted to the nearest police precinct, booked for a felony...how things have changed.
@winter599- youre just a fuckin liberal asshole who is too retarded to get where Roger is coming from. I bet you voted for Obama too. Big change, to deeper in debt.
@PegherProductions that comment was inappropriate. he was just expressing his disagreement with the fact that the man did something he found offensive to his country. last I check, patriotism didn't make you a "fuckin liberal asshole". No man no matter who he is should disrespect another's country or their own.
Audience lighting fireworks in a concert that's terrible! My brother nearly lost his hearing during a Foghat concert because some dickhead lit a huge like an M-80 firecracker and tossed it, and it somehow went right to him.
@AIKevorkian aerosmith complained about objects thrown at the stage, i have a bruce springsteen bootleg of a firecracker show where a guitar player was injured, people threw things on the stage at frank zappa & GNR shows, led zeppelin complained about firecrackers but that was a part of the 1970's concert experience.
God dammit hes not a ass-hole, he put his heart and emotions into these songs and no shit hes gonna get upset when people are acting like douche bags and not getting the messages hes trying to get across.
@tardwhisperer Yeah or if you came to distract other people from admiring the music you're definitely in the wrong place. Roger drove that point home.
hell when my band makes it and if my audiance does this then i would yell at them too, like if your gonna go to a show listen to the music that the artist worked hard on to show you
This really explains the MC's comments at the opening of The Wall. "Before we begin, the house management would like to request just a few things. First, please no fireworks. Also, please no flash cameras. And any unauthorized audio or video recording devices found being used may be confiscated. So please save yourself a lot of hassle." Brilliant.
That audience was full of a bunch of cunts setting off their fucking dangerous cunting fireworks in a cunting way that cunted the saftey of others. Cunts! Cunts of a spectacular nature, all excelling at what they do best, cunting about!
haha this is ridiculous. I mean, that's ok about the fireworks, but you can't blame people for making noise in a concert. If you want to sit down and watch Pink Floyd playing, you can stay at your home watching TV or youtube. The most special and beautiful thing in a concert is the crowd singing along with the band. Actually, I don't think Roger was being against the singin along. If Pink Floyd was that kind of band, they'd be in a theater.
Too bad the one responsible for lighting the fireworks at the show won't pop in here and introduce himself! I think we'd all chew him out (unless he apologizes first).
HE was trying to sing Pigs on the Wing, as rather quite Pink Floyd song. They weren't singing along; they were being roudy pricks and deserved a good chewing out.
lol, if waters is ever pissed he should go up to people and just scream in their face, that would be hilarious and scary as fuck. Though I don't think he can do it too loud tho.
I don't think he lost his temper at all. He was well justified to stop playing and tell people to stop being dicks while he was trying to perform, and he did so quite calmly and matter-of-factly. As a musician, nothing sucks more than pouring your creative energy into a song while your audience goes crazy instead of listening and appreciating.
Wll, I am sorry to disagree but a concert is supposed to be about having a good time, singing along with the vocals and screaming of joy when you hear a song you like...
I might not be right and maybe I don't know what pink floyd is about (I haven't listened to it much) but, at least when i go to a rock concert I try to enjoy myself doing those things you would hate.
Pink Floyd's concerts weren't supposed to be about singing along with the songs and crap. Waters hated that. He was tired of music being so commercial.
Which is why this concert spurred the idea for The Wall..
@bumslug he was playing a delicate song with quiet passages and the firecracker jarred him
i have a jim ladd interview of roger waters playing the wall and explaining what was going on in the piece, including making references to audience members going crazy during quiet passages in songs.
well if you think he is an asshole then try to do a show with thousands of motherfuckers letting of fireworks (really unsafe) and screaming so loud the music cant even be heard...
So idiots were lighting off fireworks... That's not even safe. He has some obligation to the people who don't want to get burned. So what, at first when I read about this I thought he was being an ass. But after hearing the audio he doesn't even seem pissed off. So excuse him if some idoiots are ruining someone elses concert and putting them in danger.
Dude, I did look up about him, and he's actually a rather nice guy. And besides, if you wanted to put on a show but some asses in the crowd were being too rowdy, wouldn't you be pissed off too?
How come we don't see that attitude from Gilmour? Roger has always had a rough temper and it is best proven from Animals to The final cut. And an other thing, what has Roger done for the people around him? I'm just asking this since i don't know anything bout that matter, but I know Dave does a bunch, and not only for close friends or relatives. *Using Dave for comparison since it seemed the best for the moment :)
I just posted a video of David Gilmour trying to calm a rowdy crowd at JFK Stadium in 1987 and berate a light man in a more laid back manner than Roger Waters did here and throughout the Animals tour.
We don't see this attitude from Dave because he has CLASS and a very different personality compared to Roger. Roger is a brilliant man, he's just more....difficult.
He's one of those people that are allowed to have giant egos, because they've done giant things. And he's not really an ass, he's just self-centered, which is also not entirely wrong since he basically WAS pink floyd for the most part
And yet their next two albums are two of the greatest albums ever made. I think Roger became the opposite of disillusioned on this night...............and will the guy that got spit on that night please come forward..............all is forgiven.
God I love Roger.
