The most accurate translation of the title would be "ASK HER FOR ME" (PEDIR - TO ASK; PIDA - YOU ASK). The story of the song is about a man begging his parents to ask for a girl he likes, for marriage. This is still being a deep rooted costume for marrying couples in Spain, Portugal and all Latin American countries.

I caught this video on t.v. when it first came out, but I missed the beginning, so I didn't know who these guys were. I stuck a tape in the vcr to record at least the "back half" of this cool song. I saw this band of guitar players, all chopping away at once, and 1/2 were left-handed (like me)! I said, this is too cool! Took me another year, or so, to figure out who they were.
