  • O filme fantástico! A música fantástica...

  • @vroktar2009 you are indeed correct about causal reductionism and argumentative fallacy...it's an interesting study in philosophy.

  • ...Tom Hanks...what else can anyone say that hasn't been already. Just wow...amazing acting. Extremely convincing

  • the only film that has touched me as much, watched it in my thirties no effect. named our baby after Tom, the music is perfect.

  • awsome, just awesome

  • Yes a Divine moment in film for All time ~

  • This is perfection. What beauty of spirit emanates through her interpretation of this masterpiece. A beyond soulful performance. I forgot how much I loved this movie all those years ago.

  • I cried so hard.:'(

  • A person whom I am not naming is spamming this video and the other one about how Homosexuality is wrong.

Can we all just stop fighting and enjoy this scene :D

  • perfecto .lleno de emocion

  • And at the end, you feel like standing up and clapping. Brilliant.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer LOL - you're a fucking moron.

  • bravo!

  • "Heaven is in your eyes" That finished me right there in the movie theater, and this scene still takes my breath away.

  • @AnotherAlias07

How dare you claim to represent art? You poor child. Anyone who thinks THIS monstrosity among the great scenes in cinema history simply hasn't seen any great movies. This is pedestrian, politically correct horseshit.

  • did you know homophobe is not in the youtube dictionary?

  • my favorite scene ever see of my life

  • so powerful!!

  • TOm Hanks...??? the first of all actors

  • The scene after this is just as moving because up until now we see Denzel's character as a tough, no nonsense kind of guy, he goes home and hugs his wife and kisses his baby goodnight, he was so different after that moment, it was still beautiful.

  • @QAMaster1138 They should have shawn this scene also, it makes this scene complett and everybody will understand the meanig. I watch it so many times, but always I´m crying. It`s so sad and hopefull.

  • god bless tom hanks

  • @zongnugs Why?

  • some perfect acting

  • Damn, almost cried. not even gonna lie.

  • The words fit perfectly to Andrews situation in this movie. As Maria Callas sings about "The place that cradled me is burning", it is similar to Andrews body breaking down.

  • I'm not quite sure what this scene is supposed to mean, but every time I see it I'm deeply affected by it. It reminds me of something Fellini once said when he was asked whether he was afraid if people would understand his films, and he said: "you're not supposed to understand it, you're supposed to feel it." and I think no explanation or interpretation of this scene would do it justice. The truly great films make you feel.

  • I remember when a teacher showed this scene to our class when I was 12 years old. The scene has haunted me ever since. One of the most moving, most powerful things I have ever seen. The 2 greatest actors of our generation completely enveloped in their characters.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer You're out of touch with reality, and the world would probably be a better place without a egocentric and small person. I feel sorry for you, your parents, and whoever else made you unable to see the real world.

  • Comment removed

  • @Pizuzuzimmer You know that HIV can be transmitted through heterosexual sex as well too right? This movie isn't going to turn anyone gay, it isn't going to ruin your life. You act as if someone that doesn't have the same opinion as you is wrong. And if they are different then you they are evil, such as the character in this movie. Therefore, you are out of touch with reality. Have fun locking your kids in a cage so they can't think for themselves Hitler. How dare someone be different then you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Zskillit Agreed!

  • A wonderful aria. For me trumps even ''Vissi d'arte'

  • Look, the place that cradled me is burning... I bring sorrow to those who love me.

It was during this sorrow that love came to me.

Live still, I am life. Heaven is in your eyes. Is everything around you just the blood and mud? I am divine. I am oblivion. I am the god... that comes down from the heavens, and makes of the Earth a heaven. I am love!... I am love.

  • this is the most amazing scene from the movie. it is so full of emotion and poignant power - it was this scene that showed me the beauty of Maria Callas' voice.

  • This is one of my favourite film scenes of all time.

  • one of the best drama scenes :) love it! love the movie!

  • Why was Joe Miller staring at Andrew Beckett with compassin? Did he feel sorry for him? Or he regrets being homophoboc and offensive to homosexuals?

  • @fatizoo1000 I think he was seeing Andrew the man, not Andrew the gay man, not Andrew the man with Aids. Just Andrew the man. This is one of the most powerful parts of this movie. Very moving.

  • @DMMP28 Was Joe Miller homophobic even after working with Andrew?!

  • @fatizoo1000 When he started working with Andrew, he was homophobic and tried to keep their communications as strictly attorney/client. Then that all changed in this scene.

  • One of 3 big myths in life is that there are problems that get in the way of living one's life. In truth, life is only experienced through what we call problems. Problems are the only force that draws human beings to think and to take action. Life cannot be discussed separately or distinguished from problems. Hence, problems do not truly exist. They are life.

  • How very very moving never fails to bring a tear to my eyes and an ache to my heart for all of those who are not just struck bi HIV, but for the starving children in Somalia

the homeless the abused, the dying and the dead..............my heart aches for you all.

But also my heart sings and my tears dry when a new life is born, and a cancer patient is in remission.........and life goes on.

    August 6th 2011.

  • I'm actually amazed Pizuzuzimmer's responses haven't been removed yet, borders on several phobias :P (Either that or a total lack of sensitivity) Need to check in on that matey :P Hope you don't catch anything :) Besides that, this is the scene that gets people hooked on Callas I think, revival of the Queen of Opera, always cool!

  • Comment removed

  • Opera really can have a visceral impact on you. Pity the majority don't 'get it.'

  • Im 13 years old and this is my favourit emovie and Tom Hanks is my favourite actor. This is such a beautiful opera song and such a powerful scene. Made me cry ♥

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Thank you for bringing clarity to this video for me.

  • @AnotherAlias07

You reveal your ignorance of cinematic history with this vapid statement.

  • Absolutely brilliant, and heart wrenching

  • OMG This is so fucking overwhelming!

  • Very moving scene ... 

  • What a voice! Shes the best ever.

  • @lando30 Maria Callas..

  • Denzel Washington should have won the Oscar for this scene. It is incredible to see how he changes from winter to summer in only 4 minutes without a big play. His intensive minimal gesture touches your heart. Only Marlon Brando could have play like this.

  • @AnotherAlias07 I tottally agree... I am crying everytime I see this movie specially this part

  • Brilliant by far the best thing that tom has ever done

  • one of the most moving scenes in all of movie history i tear up everytime i watch this movie becuz of this scene

  • Wspaniały film! Tak mnie poruszył ten fragment, że wybrałam go do omówienia na egzaminie na certyfikat językowy, jako wart każdej ceny...

  • GREAT FILM, GREAT MUSIC, GREAT CALLAS, GREAT TOM HANKS!!!!

    I AM CRYING ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I suppose the Holocaust was also a "hoax", it also being an "allegedly" documented fact.

Those scientists who discovered THE VERY MOLECULE of HIV were just hucksters who wanted to make people addicted to medicine.

It's because of comments like yours (espoused as policy by the former South African government) that South Africans, who are seropositive, comprise 17 percent of HIV/AIDS victims.

You've a right to be a fool. You've no right have your foolishness NOT to be categorized as bull shit.

  • @AnotherAlias07 I guess I'm not artistic at all. I'm just a sick, sick monster. All because I was moved but didn't cry.

  • @josiah32000 hahaha u know what he meant

  • @MrAGKim ok, so what is it then that kills?

  • @danynumero6 So called "medicine" does. Look, Im sorry to say this, but Im not sure if this YouTube comment system is good for any discussion. If you're interested, please Google it & you'll know more about this. If you think it's just another conspiracy theory, then call me an idiot. I dont care.

  • @MrAGKim

What about the thousands of AIDS victims in Africa who don't get treatment? How do they die?

  • @unhallowed45

Oh, that's a government conspiracy involving the UFOs and the Bilderberg group. Elvis and 2Pac (both of whom are still alive) are involved as well, in secret ways I cannot reveal in this forum.

  • Such a powerful flik. I never thought i'd listen to much less like opera but then I watched this movie again a couple days after the superbowl & this scene just did it for me. Now its pretty much nothing but Mozart & his operas. What a trip! & I know this isnt Wolfie so hold ur tongue. Thanx for posting this p

  • Nice job, I love your effort, Brandon Ja'rod's new release due DEC. 2010 AMAZING!

  • Apparently, Tom Hanks did that in a single take. Now THAT is amazing!

  • IIe razy oglądałam ten film, tyle razy płakałam podczas tej sceny....

  • sitting here, in the throes of depression, and... "it said, LIVE STILL." nothing but tears. nothing.

  • i think this was the first scene in a film which made me cry

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favourite scenes in a movie ever... Tom Hanks is such a great actor.

  • I cry like a big girl when I hear this !!!

  • Tom Hanks broke my heart in this scene. Powerful stuff

  • I can't listen to Maria Callas performance without crying since I saw Philadelphia

  • Yes, one of the powerfull scenes in cinematography...the utter despair of Andrew's condition....our glimpse into his most profound sorrow....and Denzel, who is allowed to witness this intimate sharing of grief and hope through the Andrew's interpretation of La Momma Morta. Yes, the mournful aria begs you to cry with it..the lighting, the I.V. the angles of the camera..Denzel's eyes...compassion. Enjoyed your comments MrCancertropic.

  • "The place that cradled me is burning"= My body is ravaged by disease

"I bring sorrow to those who love me"= My actions that let this illness in cause my Loved Ones pain

"Live still"= we must go on and find the beauty, the upside, the grace, the love

"Everything around you..."= Get over yourself and realize your essence goes on in all that you touch

"Makes of the earth a heaven"= let the Spirit transform your now into your forever

Bottom Line: Attitude is everything. Thanks, Andrew

  • We need some sadness to truly understand love.

  • this film was amazing,,,,it made my cry!!!!

  • This is the scene that won him the Oscar. Bravo, Mr. Hanks, bravo.

  • it's also my favorite aria and my favorite scene. great hunks!

  • That scene & the ending killed me :(

  • @abcjbc

Yes, it is a horrific film, eh?

  • If ever a scene in a film has made me cry, THIS WAS IT!

  • i wish every person in the world would watch this scene. maybe it would bring us closer together? life is a gift. why waste it hating?

  • Tom Hanks deserved his Lifetime Achievement Award just for this scene

  • tenía ganas de ver y escuchar esto.

  • sooo schön... gänsehaut

  • denzel was brilliant in this movie...but this scene stole the oscar from him

  • my favorite scene from this movie!

  • Great film. Great actors. Great music. Great interpretation.

    Great.....ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you for the Video!

The best fim of all the times!

    Tom Hanks...the best !

  • Uma das cenas mais lindas que já assisti... a carga emocional do personagem central em contraponto com o outro personagem, que percebe a emoção, a sensibilidade mas não consegue entender tudo por inteiro... maravilhoso!!!

  • Just realised this is Tom Hanks before he played Forest Gump! :)

  • Look at the time between comments. These are my brothers and sisters!!!!!!

  • It's the most impressive part in a film ever, it's breaking my heart every time i see this film.

  • superb

  • Uma das cenas mais lindas que já vi! Emocionante!!!

  • Sublime Callas, incredibly intense Tom Hanks...

  • Tom Hanks = Greatest ever.

  • Una de las escenas que realmente me estremecieron y la voz de La Diva... maravillosa

  • Because of this movie, I started listening to Callas..This is the best opera song I have ever listened to or heard!

  • .... amazing !!!!!!!

  • That's the movie's scene. Made me cry!!! Loved it and still do!!!

  • Esta ecena es lo que haca que el cine sea un arte maravilloso,Tom Hanks es un maestro

  • i'm a urban black male born/raised in chi. don't know jack about opera but i tell u, when i saw this scene/movie when i was 12,i cried! i dont know why i did that til this day. i guess it was a testament 2 how powerful film can be.

  • @edupbeat same happened to me, even tho i didn't know what was the lyrics about.. her voice is just amazing

  • My favourite scene in the movie is one of the final courtroom scenes, when Hanks is being cross-examined and on the verge of a breakdown. A masterpiece of subtly and technique.

  • One of the highlights of world cinema......!!!!!

  • wooow!! Maybe the most memorable movie scene of all time!!

  • I think that this is the point in the movie when Denzel Washington's character ceases to see Tom Hanks' character as 'client' and begins to see him as 'human being'. You can see that change of viewpoint in Denzel's face as the song progresses. That's what struck me most in the acting along with, of course, Tom Hanks' devastatingly heartbreaking performance.

  • you hear the heartache in her voice?

  • one of the most heart-breaking movie scenes ever

  • This scene is amazing, shows the full force of the actors.

  • This scene made this movie that much better. Incredible work...

  • Tom hanks is just wow<3 i mean the song is already incredible but the way tom hanks just goes with it and the the filming just perfection <3

  • 1:15 CAN YAH FEEL IT JOE!

    Joe - Bland face

  • Una escena que logró introducir a toda una generacion al mundo de la ÓPERA !!!!

  • Que grande musica hacen esos autores italianos!

    Son los mejores!

Y esa pieza es "divina", una verdadera oba de arte!

  • Hey benguard! Over the top with religion but I understand where yer coming from.

  • I liked the part where Tom Hanks' eyes were closed.

Also, I really enjoy what they did here. The song was an abstract representation of Tom's character's situation portrayed not through the lyrics, but the emotion attached to it. For a moment, the singer and Tom are one.

  • One of my favorite movie scenes ever. And I'm a Die Hard kind of guy.

  • Great actor (both of them)

    Great scene

    Great film

    Great song

  • ...i doppiatori italiani sono i migliori al mondo...

  • How come nobody ever acknowledges the person who directed this - Jonathan Demme?

  • @iDraw3G

Because we notice only what we see ... too bad, maybe, but very true.

I discovered it listening to a song: who knew it was made but not one but three or four of our greatest singers and composers?

  • @iDraw3G I acknowledge him...He's one of the greatest film directors of all time...I love the trademark close up shot of the face...You see it a lot in The Silence of the Lambs as well.

  • @iDraw3G

Because neither he nor the scene are remarkable?

  • An Underrated Masterpiece!

  • I learned a lesson I'll never forget.

  • There are people in this world that suffers much more pain than others. I do believe that God speaks to the hurting people and lets them know that He loves them and that He is sorry for what they have suffered.

  • What a powerful movie

  • Brilliant! Simply Brilliant!

  • such a powerful scene in a wonderful film, Tom Hanks is surely the best actor of his generation and Denzil Washington portrays so much empathy without saying a word. One of my favorite films.

  • Truly one of the best scenes in cinematic history. Amazing music, cinematography, directing, and acting all in one scene. Very rare and without a doubt absolutely beautiful.

  • I really love this scene. Tom Hanks had the best performance in the film but Denzel had the oscar snub which is sad because his performance was also amazing.

  • masterpiece

  • What a star, he truly deserved the oscar for this movie, and the human race should look at themselves before they judge other people. RIP to all who fought the terrible battle till the end.

  • great scene! great movie!

where the corporate world is concerned, one must not accept anything less than what they justly deserve. no compromises! absolutely!

  • @actuary33 go fuck yourself--we will be free and equal and that day is coming soon--you're bigotry will be thrown on the scrapheap of history

  • You don't have to be fan of fags or not. You just have to learn about tolerance...

  • Tears come to my eyes every time I watch this moving scene. Sadly, I knew several people who died from AIDS in those dark days. What a tragic waste. La Momma Morta is one of my favorite arias too. And Maria Callas really did it justice. Yes, it is one of the most beautiful arias written.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer I said I 'knew' people, not what they liked or did. Get your mind out of the gutter. People contracted AIDS from blood transfusions and many other reasons. Why do you assume things? Are you sane? I wonder......
