Eric Burdon is one of the coolest lead singers in rock and roll history. I was 8 years old when the single "When I Was Young" was released. I loved it, my parents hated it. Enough said.
The Animals certainly had talent. I'm not saying ALL the 60s bands were good because there was a whole lot of really bad ones too but, as several people have said, they HAD to be able to sing and play or they would sink without trace. Nowadays almost everyone relies on backing tracks and programs that get rid of any mistakes in pitch or tone so most of them can't sing live at all but they still sell records even though they cheat.
This was once a song my boyfriend sent to me, because he is british and I could not quite understand what he was saying to me...Best of times (51 Rocker) !
Those were the days when you had to have talent to get on stage or you shit in your pants. Today's bands have half their job done by electronic enhancement or studio wizardry, and no class but a shitful of bloated crap.
@Toottycat That's so true! I used to beleive that all modern bands suck, but I've found a few that actually have talent. I suppose the addition of electronic equipment is a form of art, and will pass. But check out Cage The Elephant. They're pretty much like the Animals + skinney jeans and 50 years.
@Toottycat I've figured out why. it's not that music has gotten worse - it's due to two things: 1) the fact that stupid people shout louder. they push harder to get their way. they ultimately get their way in any field (can you say politics?). and 2) population surge. we're at 300 million, and the class of stupids grows stronger. It's not that music or comedy has gotten worse, it's just that our society has gradually succumbed to the will of the stupids, so that's what mainstream focuses on.
@zapproowsdower Yes, that's another way you can look at it. As they say, 'Empty vessels make most sound' and we do have hordes of human 'empty vessels' about our feet in modern society. We have now come to a point were everything goes in society because everything is acceptable, everything is hype, ignorance is a bliss, and glory be to the ruling morons of the nation (of any nation) who in league with the 'empty vessels' of society 'make most sound'.
At least we know that old bands will be remembered in the next 100 years but ''bands'' like Jonas Bros and all this crappy stuff will be gone in 10 years.
Amen! I agree. There are good bands today like Incubus, Green Day and Wheezer but the great Rock N Roll bands are gone forever. I would like to know what kind of people listen to shit like 50 cents or Britney Spears. Talk about a fucked up genereation. All these morons remind me of Jerry Springer freaks!

God, that singer can't be older than 25, and he already had a voice like that? His testes must've been six inches in diameter.
Like Steve Winwood when he was 17...

Eric Burdon always looked half-bagged.
If you want to see something very weird, see The Animals perform Blue Feeling in the beach party movie Get Yourself a College Girl.

@CrazyIsCool1 Cage The Elephant remind me so much of the 80s punk rock scene with bands like The Sex Pistols and The Stranglers - heard about them?

@Toottycat I've heard of the Sex Pistols, but I've never really listened to their stuff...
