known12... Do you take into consideration other cost of production. Ink, Chemicals, Electricity, Plates, Film, Press Operator Salary, Cost of Machine($50,000) set up time, clean up time, packaging, delivery, invoicing, waiting for payment, insurance, and maybe some profit for owner, that $160.00 difference is very hard to come by. Don't judge just the cost of the paper to the cost of the printed project and think for one minute that printers are getting rich, it is a very tough industry .
I bet they charge an arm and a leg though for printing envelopes.
from another envelope place I was once quoted around 200 dollars for 1 case of envelopes(2500) and the case alone cost me 40 dollars so why they needed to charge me all that money if they had a highs-speed printing press is beyond me. something about cost per square inch and power management of the shop.
I used to run a winkler dunnebier 102 paper converting and printing machine. We printed the envelopes flexo, up to 4 colours 1 side or 3/1 with reverse, then made the envelopes on the same machine.
Machines ran 24/7 I million envelopes per day, only drawback was setup time could be up to 8 hrs. Amazing Machine.
