Blake Edwards said that no one could play Clouseau other than Peter Sellers. After watching this and Steve Martin's Pink Panthers I totally agree with him.
@matthwe3468 I agree. Moore does not have enough facial expression. His eyes are too squinty for this role. Sellers was a genious. Martin is a joke but not a funny one.
closeau186, it certainly was a missed opportunity. Did "Curse" come out after "A View To A Kill?" If so, this would have been another great screen icon Moore should have replaced. Moore was funny in the Cannonball Run. He should have made more comedies besides Boat Trip and Bullseye. Can't we start a movement or something to have him and Connery come out of retirement and do a really good Comedy? I seem to recall a statement by Sean Connery that he loved Blake Edwards' kind of humor.
@intrepidlikes I totally agree. Moore as proven in this scene would have been the perfect Clouseau replacement. A View to a Kill came out in 1985 a few years after Curse. I wouldn't be surprised if Sean Connery liked Blake Edwards humor.
Oh this would have been great.. Where's the follow-up? Did Roger do another? Would have been great to see him putting on those ridiculous disguises and having a training bout with Kato. Wish the slapstick routines here were original though. Come to think of it, Roger Moore and Sean Connery should make a comedy film together these days now that their respective James Bond personas have been muted in the public eye. The addition of Michael Caine wouldn't hurt either. :)
Roger Moore stated in an interview at the time of this movie, that he had to over-act like Chief Inspector Clouseau. So that the viewers will see more of Peter Sellers' Clouseau in him. Else they didn't knew that this had to be Petere Sellers' Clouseau after his Plastic Surgery.
@clouseau186 I find it very amusing. A great actor is playing a character that was played by another great actor. So Roger Moore just didn't play Clouseau, but also Peter Sellers. Hard to do in my opinion, but he did it. And good too.
Roger was a very good friend of the late great Peter Sellers and whilst making his sixth Bond film 'Octopussy' in 1982 at Pinewood Blake Edwards offered him this cameo - and very funny it is - 007 as Clouseau!
@predlycon He's too old now, though. In his younger years he'd have excellent, but he should be someone like Ronnie Corbett now - he has the natural gift, you're right.
How old was Roger here in this movie?

@DynanProducties That is exactly true what you brilliantly stated when Moore plays the bumbling Clouseau. What do you think of his performance?
