  • thats nothin compared to tampa lol

  • CHP must have a field day

  • let's widen it to 20lane road YAY!!!

  • I live outside of Washington D.C. and I must say that the traffic there is worse than this. Still pretty bad though

  • i am from bend oregon a town of 100,000, and i have one thing to ask of the people in L.A, Y U NO BIKE WORK!?!?!?

  • LA says in 1950: "Let's widen the road and not invest in rail/subway transit!"

    (traffic becomes worst)

LA says in 1960: "Let's keep widening the roads, because wider roads mean less traffic!"

    (more traffic)

LA says in 1970: "Let's try widening roads again..."

    (more traffic)

LA says in 1980: "Hmm, more roads please!"

    (traffic)

LA says in 2011: "Sh*t, perhaps Europe and Japan were right: invest in rail and let there be alternative transportation for commmuters."

    (less traffic)

  • @soundersbloke widening the roads by 1 lane each time wont help. you can take care of the traffic problem by wideing lanes also. you just gotta let the civil engineers do their part and not complain about the price tag. for this traffic the best option is to have sets 5, 8 or perhaps 10, 6 lane underground tunnels. It will solve your problem.

  • The M25 in England is like that 24hrs a day!

  • At least there are plenty of lanes. I miss that.

  • walking or jogging is the solution in California!

  • Seriously I would take the bicycle to my work, it would go 10 times faster.. :)

  • thats my exit....

  • I went to a couple of M50 videos on You Tube to get an idea - seems snow is big problem for the M50 - when I think of Ireland i think of rain but not snow. I am part Irish ancestry.

  • @videorizing The M50 Highway is now upgraded but during last December's blizzard, it was absolute chaos! People had to sleep in their cars overnight, some even abandoned their cars in the middle of the Highway. Owning a car over here is expensive because of environmental taxes on gas plus an annual car tax. It's good to see L.A during rush hour because I'm actually visiting my brother over there in a week!

  • The M25, M6, M60 and M1 in the UK are just awful -.- in Ireland the M50 is terrible -.-

  • @ItalianAdonis lol, what about the M25? It has like 4 lanes and still it's jammed 24/7.

  • this is what its like...EVERY SINGLE DAY....

  • you want to see traffic? go to the 405 and 101!! LOLOLOL

  • This traffic isn't that bad. At least they're moving. If there was an accident, it would have been worse.

  • Yes - all the freeways have the merging traffic light on the ramps. Have had them for years. Not unusual to have 4 cars in front - waiting for green light. At some locations a message saying 3 cars can leave at green.

  • I don't know if Atlanta is as bad, but we're not far behind on the list. And I don't know if you have ramp meters in LA or not, but its the stupidest idea yet. It's basically a traffic light on a freeway/highway on ramp. So instead of speeding up to merge with traffic..you stop, before merging. And it doesn't do anything, besides back up already congested side roads..and it doesn't help with traffic at all...= waste of time and tax payer money.

  • @mnetrucker - The ramp meters stop a line of 20 cars merging on the freeway at once, causing the main flow of freeway traffic to slow as everyone merges. I know for a fact they work because i see them in action every day. They turn off when traffic on the mainline freeway resumes normal speed.

  • Ours in atlanta doesn't stop a line of 20 cars. It turns green, and red for each individual car. So each car must stop, wait for a green light, then proceed. I just run em, till the day they get camera's or cops there, that's what I'll do. It was tax payers money wasted on a stupid light, when it should be spent on trying to figure out better ways of keeping traffic flowing and easing congestion. =)

  • carpet bomb it! quick!

  • L.A. is a very awesome city but there are other cities that have more worse traffic than this. And does L.A. have traffic 24 hours a day? I bet not. Shanghai, NEw york, SAo paulo and many other cities have more traffic.

  • Yep, I do this EVERYDAY, don't drive a gas guzzler to work...

  • To live and die in L.A ...

  • oh dear i miss LA :-))

  • how did i get to timesplitters2 to a rush hour vid??

  • There are more people in those cars then there are in my town.

  • @3kWorks LOL

  • Im moving after graduation to LA from VA

  • @dramagirl808 what part of LA? be careful.

  • You just want to breath that nice fresh air..

  • i wonder when a car overheats how worse it gets?!?!?

  • @cdh4099 If you have a good thermostat and full coolant with no leaks and everything works as it should to keep your engine cool, you ain't gotta worry about it! LOL

  • I'm from London, where all the roads are single lane. Driving, it takes me 2 1/2 hours to get to work 12 miles away. I'm moving to L.A next year so this ain't so bad for me.

  • That's some crazy traffic. I'm a new yorker and I've been in some crazy traffic like that many many times. The long island expressway would be the equivalent to the traffic in this video. Every major city is gonna have terrible rush hour traffic no matter how you slice it.

  • I think weve all lreant somthing here Dont drive on the freaking LA freeway ever get the train instead.

  • i love how people are saying "oh you should see how it is over here, or over there." HELLO PEOPLE THIS IS LA EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT THE SHITTY TRAFFIC BUT YOU LEARN TO LOVE IT BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE LA. WE GOT EVERYTHING HERE, AND THE WORST TRAFFIC BECAUSE ERRBODY LIVE OUT HERE.

    ellllll ayyyyyy ;)

  • LA u drive me crazy

  • you should see chicago....

  • @HoofPrintedHeart88 bullshit, LA is like this at least 22 hours a day. This shit is consistantly bad. Even on the weekends I've been stuck for hours on the 405 or the 101. You guys in other cities like Chicago for example at least get the benefit of off peak hours. Drive through LA at 11pm and Chicago at 11pm and tell me what's worse.

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WELCOME TO THE CAR CULTURE!!! My BMX bike can go faster than all of them....LOL!!!

  • It could built a six way track railway in the middle of this motorway...

100 x more efficient like this dead end's motors's race, so oil costly...

  • This is not as bad as NYC or even DC

  • This brings back memories... of the '80s when I lived there, or one of half-dozen times I've been back since then, including for two weeks last month.

In general, the farthest left non-diamond lane is usually the worst one to be in from a progress standpoint. If you can't use the diamond lane(s), the middle non-diamond lanes usually move the best.

  • Is mostly called the 110 -- still is the Harbor Freeway - which name to my memory was what most called it way back. Now 110 seems to be universal. Behind me in the video it blends into the Pasadena Freeway - or you go left onto the Hollywood Freeway.

  • try and go to places like london and sydney where the roads are smaller ad you wont move an inch for an hour and then complain about LA

  • That's nothing compared to rush hour traffic in Mc Farland California

  • GOSHHH!!! i am moving to Pasadena and will have to commute to LA :|||

  • Damn they're bookin it

  • If only cars could fly!

  • Thats one thing i hate about any city in America is the traffic! no matter where you drive in N.Y L.A ,Chicago, Houston, Phoenix,Philadelphia expect to pack a dinner!

  • @danielnunn,but these LA lanes are bigger than those in NYC.Also in NYC,everything is so closed in,that you could ride the subway or take the bus besides driving.

  • it that's the 101 is not rush hour. DAMN FREEWAY IS ALWAYS PACKED!

  • wow people drive quicker in sacramento even when the traffic on the freeway is stopped

i guess theyre just used to it n don't mind lol

  • public transport?

  • It's called the 405 because thats what you do ,4 o' 5 miles an hour!

  • @Dslater417 bicycle goes 15mph. no gas... no insurance... no smog.... no parking... no problem

  • @Dslater417 LOL hahahahha your so right!

  • they should build at least 10 more lanes above that freeway. BTW where are all those people going ?

  • @JonasE1969 i'm assuming work, errands, living thier lives..

  • Humans have become an appendage of the automobile.

  • Air quality only gets bad in the inland empire, ie the butthole of LA county, and that's only when there's massive forest fires. Oh and to the nightlife, yes downtown closes early because it has a rampant bum/transience problem, but Hollywood, Santa Monica, Westwood, even in the south bay like manhattan and redondo beach, the night life there is always crackin, so please make sure you go somewhere besides downtown on your yearly visit here, and then your credibility would be just a little bette

  • @sepherstar what markets were you trying to shop at? Trader joes? Every major grocery store is open till at least 11:30, Ralphs is even open 24/7. And by the city being gridlocked, which part? Downtown gets pretty traffic heavy but there's WAY more to the city than downtown that's not gridlocked at those hours.

  • Whatever, LA still has any other city in the country beat on the amount of freeways, our freeways are our subways, and yes there's traffic at rush hour just like any other city, but they're still a lifeline. Just within LA county there's the 110, 105, 405, 91, 90, 101, 710, 5, 605, 134, 2, 60, 10, 170, and the 210. Take that New York City, Chicago, and Atlanta combined!

  • @localsonly100 watch the video above^^^ you sure you want to say LA has those cities beat, because you guys obviously have transportation issues, NYC takes all your useless freeways & does something efficient called the SUBWAY, other cities have many trans. OPTIONS, & that's why they have LA beat. I'm just sayinnn LA does seem nice tho i'd still like to move there.

  • @localsonly100 ...and the 118, 57, 14, 22...

  • one car one occupant; brilliant planning; but I love this crazy city anyway

  • that's a huge amount of wasted fuel

  • automobiles have nothing to do with global warming..nah

  • rush hour of not los angeles has bad traffic like new york city and chicago and atlanta

  • good thing i live n alabama

  • One of the things that turns me off when I think about moving to the city of Los Angeles. :)

  • No trouble - lots of car rental outfits at airport - the street scene is downtown Los Angeles at rush hour - you will probably not be spending your time there - while traffic in Southern California is heavy - driving to Disneyland for instance at non rush hour should be fine - and staying at hotel around there and then driving to San Diego for instance will not be like downtown Los Angeles.

  • @videorizing When is rush hour in LA?

  • @HeeVindinho Whenever. I've been on the freeway after 10 pm and was able to open my car door, get out, run a lap around my car and get back in before driving another inch.

  • @videorizing I live in Atlanta and the traffic here is just as bad, or even worse!

  • OMG..

My dad's had around 50 years of driving experience in Australia.

We're thinking of hiring a car when we go to LA on holiday.

Do you think he'll be able to adapt to driving on the opposite side and traffic etc.?

I hope it's not too hard. Using a taxi all day would cost a fortune..

  • @NaruSasuFreakYOSH Not from L.A., but have visited. You need a car in L.A. No way around it. Even with parking fees it's the cheapest option. Everything you'll want to see is too spread out, public transit is spotty at best, and you'd spend a fortune on taxi rides. It's the complete opposite of NYC, where you'd be a fool to rent a car.

Like any city with lots of traffic, you just need to plan your travel times and routes carefully to avoid the nightmare shown in this video. It can be done.

  • @NaruSasuFreakYOSH - the surface streets are really straight forward because most of LA is a grid and most of the streets are pretty wide. avoid morning and afternoon rush, or ask a local first. stay off the 405! try to avoid getting off the freeway in the older areas between LA and long beach/orange county. hehe. if he's an experienced and patient driver he'll be fine. tell him driving 70-75 on the freeways is encouraged when safe.

  • looks like everyone gives each other plenty of space.

  • The surface street which is one block over and runs parallel - is jammed also. Rush hour all over is brutal on all streets - but the very worst at all times of day may be west side area of city. Some distance from this freeway in video.

  • @videorizing ride a bike is not brutal. its only brutal if u r dumb enuf to drive with 5 million of your friends. i ride a bike and have no problem.

  • Are the surface streets any better? Or are they just as backed up with drivers trying to avoid the freeway? I don't necessarily mean only in downtown, I mean around the metro area.

  • Do people not drive on the shoulder during rush hour?

  • @UnknownOconnor Is that a serious question? Lol. No..that's illegal in California. Although I'm sure that doesn't stop some people from doing it.

  • @yourwifecalledagain I seen drivers doing that, and it was kinda funny. I know its illegal but maybe there's no cops present during rush hour? It would be classed as a form of road rage where I live.

  • Wow los angeles is like Atlanta!

  • just watching this video makes my road rage start to come out

  • Is it not any subways in LA?

    Greetings from north of sweden.

  • I love L.A!!!

  • This is the 110 -- Harbor Freeway. This traffic continues on the parralel surface street one block over - they try to avoid freeway traffic - but at rush hour surface street is heavy.

  • Was that the 101 fwy ?

  • lol you can hear the ghetto music vibrations.

  • NYC is mass transit at every corner is heaven compared to this traffic

  • daaaam thats crazy in the bay area it gets like this for a couple of hours but in la all the time ugh that sucks i would have road rage lollol jk

  • And this is why we need cheap, fast public transportation. Fuck the cars, I'd take the bullet train or subway any day over that shit.

  • Theres atleast 20 celebs in those cars and rest mexicans. And about 13/20 those celebs are going to party. The mexicans are going to mess up L.A more.

  • lol

  • @SlimLPShady you racist fuck. so what if we mexicans fuck LA up its always been ours anyways and by the way white people treat us we want to fuck it up more we just dont care anymore if you dont like it then leave USA cus we are gonna fuck it all up, oh its true. its damm true.

  • @odisus69 Yup im racist to those dirty mexicans.

  • @SlimLPShady youre fukin dirty man watever u are u fukin discrace

  • @degostile I'm A CLEAN WHITE!

  • @SlimLPShady and IM A CLEAN BROWN :)

  • @odisus69

I suggest you look up history. It was never yours. The Mexicans that did live here assimilated and people in Modern Day Mexico have no ties to it. Not like it matters anyway you people can't without violence and self destruction. Your going to fail just like brown people worldwide.

  • This is close to where I live. I'm on this freeway every weekday and it does get packed. L.A. ppl, you know you start thinking about the freeway situation at 3pm even though you won't be out till 2 or 3 hours from then. Only time the freeway isnt that congested is between 11pm and 5am Sun-Thurs. On Friday's and Saturday's it'll still be pretty bad since everyone is going out to party.

  • isn't the morning commute in L.A. hell? or was that the NYC morning commute....i don't know.

  • it's best to go to LA early b4 the rush hour

  • US has alot of cars on the road

  • There's always traffic everyday in LA =D

  • at 5 secs illegal going to shoulder lanes ohhhhhh..

  • do they ever close freeways in LA?

  • Screw that! It's all about Metrolink/Subway! :D

  • Go Metro!

  • @Timsierramist I would have to take several buses to get to the Metrolink or Subway, and neither of them go anywhere near where my clients live. Traffic for me! :-/

  • Haha, Yea Nobody Is Moving On Rush Hour.

  • ahhh the irony xD

  • i dont get why its rush hour, haha no one is moving in a rush

  • Yes build a rapid transit system in TBM-bored tunnels so the people who don't mind fighting on trains and strangers staring at them can go to work like that, and the people like me who like some privacy can enjoy less traffic on the freeways. Just don't take my tax dollars to pay for cheap transport. Charge what it really costs.

  • enlarging the freeway is a weak solution. public authorities should consider densifying urban areas and build a massive public transit system.

  • Agreed. Look at NYC, with a high population density and a giant subway system.

  • Oh yeah, gotta love the LA Traffic... LA is where i learned my defensive driving skills.... lol

  • nothing is comparable to LA love it all day everyday

  • Reminds me of the downtown connector in Atlanta.

  • just shut up and enjoy the sunshine and fresh carbon monoxide. at least it's not always raining and depressing like Oregon and Washington State.

  • True. Although I love the rain and the snow.

  • @nipzilla psssshhhhh its not that rainy here in washington its just overcast a lot and its most certainly not depressing.

  • @nipzilla Its not depressing here. wtf.

  • @nipzilla You mean Carbon dioxide...

  • @nipzilla Why I hate don't appreciate living in the latter. :(

  • @nipzilla im with u but im from indiana and theirs really nothin 2 do in indianapolis besides going 2 a colts game or somethin, yeah and it rains here alot 2

  • @nipzilla True, but it actually does rain in Southern California. When it rains, it pours!

  • Houston has a solution for L.A. 20 lanes like in Houston!!

  • try driving down business I-80 through sacramento around 4 p.m, you'll go from 65 to 0 in a hurry.

  • Los Angeles is the greatest city in the world.

  • @eric251982 Because it's air quality sucks, there's no free parking, the city is gridlocked between 4pm and 7pm, it actually DOESN'T have a night life, and the markets close at 10:30pm?

    Yep, great city. Not.

  • @eric251982 LOS ANGELES BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!

  • The solution is so easy! Contstruct a city wide public transit system and voila!

  • sheep

  • And I thought Chicago has bad traffic. Good thing that's LA.

  • SEEMS TO BE MOVING PRETTY GOOD TO ME...

  • be careful, people might think your a terriost filiming

  • Better than the toronto 401, sometimes we would have to stop for like 30 seconds and then move like 2 feet

  • I agree, this looks like traffic in toronto.

  • If you want unusually lite traffic - my new video - "Warner Brothers Studio To Downtown Los Angeles On Hollywood Freeway" will do it - taken on a Sat. morning about 7 AM.

  • The traffic is really bad at certain times.

There is no real way to avoid it if you drive.

Cars, quakes and more won't keep me from being in L.A.

It is the best city in the world.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • SKIP TRAFFIC

    GO METRO!!!!!

  • skip traffic go biki

  • go biki?

    you mean like, bike?

    yes bike is good too

    anything thats not car

one day we'll see an LA without the necessity of a car

    i'm sure of it

  • yes :P i mean bike, but yeah i agree im sure of it

  • yea i hope so then the freeways will be more clear for me =] lol

not to knock the metro or trying to make trans more efficient and less harsh on the environment

but i love driving too much to take the bus when i got a perfectly good car in my drive

  • But the traffic is L.A.'s pastime. Los Angeles without traffic is like New York without The Statue of Liberty, it's just weird, you know?

  • you might as well stay on the freeway thats y they have them the streets in downtown will be pretty packed too

  • I always hum the Drew Carey theme on my way to and from work....whilst stuck in all of this...

"Up every mornin' just to keep a job

I gotta fight my way through the husslin' mob

Sounds of the city poundin' in my brain

While another day goes down the drain....."

    and so on.....D:

  • I avoid this freeway at rush hour - for instance - from downtown to Hollywood i take Figueroa to Sunset - and head to Hollywood all the way on Sunset.. Figueroa is also very busy at rush hour.

  • Just for future reference for whenever I get a chance to visit LA, if the freeway is slow like this, would I make better time getting off and using the surface streets, or are they just as congested?

  • shit, looks like a traffic jam on the 401 in Toronto at rush hour

  • You cannot compare Austin traffic to L.A.'s. Austin has a metropolitan population of 1 million people, L.A. on the other hand has a metropolitan population of 13 million people.

I was in L.A. last week and it is crazy. when traffic is fluid they drive over 70 miles per hour.

  • Trucks aren't allowed onto the 110. If heading into downtown from the 5, part of the truck route is using Figueroa.

  • Ahhh! I LOVE L.A.! hehe

  • DAMN!

  • yeah that would really suck.

  • well, that's what I call progress intelligently planned; one enormous car with one person in it. Brilliant planning!

  • Actually trucks are still allowed on this part of the Harbor 110 but must detour to the 101 hollywood freeway. Once you pass the 101 trucks are not permitted at all. Either because of the clearance on the tunnels that are on the 110 near Dodger stadium or the curves near pasadena.

  • Ya'll people that live in L.A, you should see Austin at rush hour. Its bumper to bumper on I-35, and Austin traffic is terrible, so there are a lot of wrecks during rush hour.(How so many people crash even though they are bumper to bumper beats me)

  • That's the Harbor Freeway forya.

There are a lot of things I love about L.A and Southern California but 'car culture' really puts a damper on all of it. Only if L.A had London's underground subway system it would be perfect.

  • Update on no trucks as mentioned previously - source tells me no trucks allowed on this road 24/7 - or else large ticket. There is a freeway 5 that loops around downtown for all vehicles including large trucks.

  • Comment removed

  • Where are the trucks? As I figure it - - - -truck drivers avoid this road at rush hour.

  • Where r the trucks??? In europe you got all the time like a wall of trucks on the 1st and sometimes 2nd lane.

  • you dont understand brother... we are not the economic superpower we once were. america is becoming third world very quickly.

  • we aren't become third world you idiot

  • tell that to my mexican neighbors in the once all white estates that are blasting their stupid mexican music at 12:00 at night

  • Comment removed

  • we need flying cars! damnit

  • Bet people were wishing the BTTF Delorean was for real. :)
