Mother fucker. There is nothing in all of sport film or advertisement that will ever approach the stunning magnificence and perfect combination of music, visual film and commentary that is shown in this short piece.
My heart hurts, as if stabbed.
This is a thing that you do not see in film-making any more: This piece wears its raw emotions on its sleeves and makes no place for cynicism or jest.
An absolute EPIC WIN!! I love this video and wished like crazy there were more like this. I have been a fan of the Olympics since Munich in '72 and wished there were one place to see all the NBC stuff..they are pretty stingy about this kind of thing..Thanks so much for posting this one. I really enjoy the music and the way everything is edited together. The first minute and a half is the best, I think.
I live in Torino! and i can say that since the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 this city has got a different and beautiful spirit that unified all of us.
I love this video. I remember it from the first time I saw it back in 2008. I have all of the songs on my iPod. It's so powerful. I love Italy and every nation around the world and I think this video puts things in perspective. There are so many great stories out there. The narrator delivers the words with such poetry. I just love it.
Has anyone, on the internet or on a site like ares galaxy, napster, or limewire, found the closing ceremony credits to nbc beijing 2008? Can anyone say goosebumps?
if i memory serves me correctly, that was a WC practice run he was on. High winds on the mountain 20-30+ mph caught him and blew him waaayyy off course.
"like the one who left home, alone to seek his destiny in an oz called st. petersburg."
being one who studies russian history and knows about the legacy of st. petersburg, i can't help but get chills up my spine when the narrator says that.
Ok. I'm loosing my mind. Does any one know the title of the song that begins at 1:00? Ive been googling/yahooing/ripping my hair out trying to find it but:( No luck what so ever. If anyone can help you would put my mind at peace for a long long time. Thanks for much for this post. I remember seeing it when the games opened, and I've never forgotten them, so I'm ecstatic about finding this.
Turin is not an english name... It's the name of torino in the local dialect. The English call torino with his name in Piemontese language... Turin, infact...
"Tonight, the world comes to hear stories, old and new. Stories of Torino." Ahh...brings back some great memories. This was an awesome intro. Thanks for uploading!
This is brilliant; the best short video I have ever seen; writing, narration and film. Just listen to the words and the matching images; unreal. I stand in awe and admiration. "Tiny Tarnaby"
"live Free or Die" " "the object o another nation's' frustration"
I never understood why so many English language broadcasts like this one referred to Torino. The city has an English name, Turin. All other Italian cities in this video are referred to by their English names. It doesn't make it look like they can speak Italian, it makes them look like they never heard of this city before, and don't know it has an English name.
Because "Torino" is the more commonly known name for the city. It was even discussed in the media here why Turin wasn't used and it was for the simple fact that Torino is more commonly known and how it was most commonly referred to in marketing and the logo.
Torino is more known BECAUSE of the Olympic logo. I read that in the media, too. So people really hadn't heard of Turin before the Olympics. Strange, it's a fair sized European city. But I've met people who haven't heard of Moscow so I guess it's not that strange.
This is music from an outfit called Immediate Music - The Abbey Road album, 2nd CD. It is used for soundtracks and movie trailers. Good luck getting it as it is only available legally for commercial applicaitons.
Shaun White, Apolo Anton Ohno, Lindsey Jacobellis, Shani Davis,Chad Hedrick and the u.s.a hockey team. team u.s.a. 2010 in get the gold back. go u.s.a
