@Vretum12 I'd say more of blues guitar. Jazz guitar is about being not heard or just being the steady part of a combo. Blues puts that guitar out there singing to blues right with the singer.
One of the few one / four / fives that John played. He usually played in the more Hill Country style vamping on one chord. Any musicians who backed John will vouch that he did not play in this style very often. The times I backed him it was usually Hill Country Blues. What a great bluesman - one of my very favorites.
@COCOLAKED Yeah, I've noticed that about John. Even when the other musicians go to the 4 or 5 chord he often stayed on the root. Also his timing can be unique at times. I've played with guys who do the same thing and it's always a challenge but it keeps me on my toes. Cool that you worked with John.
@karinwick1 Klopt, Er was ook een video van hem met JLH op youtube. Volgens mij heb ik die zelfs nog eens geupload maar die moest weg gehaald worden. :(
This is great. He sounds just like he did when I heard him in Gerdes Folk City back in the early sixties. The sound just takes me back to those days. The club was quiet when he played. If some one started talking, we stare them down. The sound of his guitar and his voice was so mesmerizing.
i feel kind of left out that my generation experiences little of this kind of music magic:
the song and the guitar playing and the musician himself are totally separate entities, colliding in a fusion of sound and emotions and becoming one unit of human expression.
the film is so simple, the set virtually empty; no elaborate elements. whether it was because of the times or t'was intended that way, the whole construct leaves only two things to carry the ideas through - just John and his music
well all i can tell you is that its on the best sellers list on the itunes music store..just says John Lee Hooker. The Anthology.. so im guessing the very first one perhaps?? im trying to get my local music store to track it down for me.
@spiritladysoul They did a few together... "The Healing Game", "Never Get Out of These Blues Alive", and "I Cover the Waterfront" are three that come to mind... JLH appeared on Van Morrison's live album "A Night in San Francisco."
love the song, but if you write it, its copyrighted, so, it is... leave it up until they make you take it down!! :)
