  • Such a perfect song.....what more can we ask from a man but to give us such joy as this song.

    THANK YOU SLY!!!!

  • 10th grade just before school got out . . . "HOt Times" to look forward to . . . a great here-comes-the summer song. . .. fucker was always wasted and LATE to his concerts, but when they finally played . . . .OUTASITE!!

  • I was six years old when this came out and i remember it being played by my Mom . RIP MOM .Thanks for posting this. Sly was and still is the man

  • You're welcome, MrDave4125-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • This song......brings back memories. Good ones to.

  • Phil Collins obviously stored this one away in the subconscious (Misunderstanding on the Genesis album Duke)

  • @millsy2010 Yeah, it kind of does sound like that.

  • @millsy2010 Definitely !

  • It just isn't officially summer till I hear this song!!

  • I don't think this song will ever get old.

  • i hate how this song is so short...it needs to be at least 2 minutes longer

  • 1969, just a whole lotta fun; wonderful girls; great music; a surrealistic moon landing, Woodstock; and a large amount of "experimenting" :) What else could a teenage guy want? I dream of those days, they'll never be approached again without a time machine.

  • @rcamp72 You're lucky...I got the gang-bang age, late 80's early 90's. The hippy age sounds much better.

  • The song has a nice swing to it. Love it.

  • " I cloud nine when i want to............."

  • @pdddddp1 LOL! I never knew that's what he was sangin! Thanks for setting me straight :)

  • I still have this album cover. That's how old I am. OMG they don't make it like this anymore. Kids no nothing about this.

  • smokin a joint in a field of daisies......barefoot.......sly will take u there

  • Another beautiful remnant from my wonderful youth. I can still see my big sister put this on her stereo (she had some of the best components ever!). This was such a cool song. Where is the Sly that we all knew and loved so much? He was a trail-blazer! Thank heavens we still have the music!

  • as much as I like this, the OP's name makes me want to kill myself.

  • The OP's name?

    What do you mean??

    ...Otaku3

  • Sly was Lightning in a bottle!!

  • every thang is cool

  • Man, I love Larry Graham's voice!

  • it's funny people on here are saying THIS song sounds like some song that came along LATER.....(chuckle)...you got it backwards Holmes....check that.

  • Love the memories this song has, remember dancing at the Electric Circus in NYC when we were 16!!!! Amazing times,GREAT music, wish it was back in the day again!!!

  • This was the BEST song Sly and the group ever recorded!!! Too bad it fades a bit early at the end, though. Thanks for posting!

  • You're welcome, unclebone100-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • Pretty common drum riff. I think toto dude copped it from "Hypnotized". But hey, that's just me.

  • Oh wow, a discovery. The song sounds like a later song by Genesis-Misunderstanding. Not the whole thing just the chord progression. I miss this music. I don't like todays music-screaming in a microphone or rappin about killing. Todays music, the popular stuff, is very dark natured.

  • This is the song which bore "Hold The Line." At least elements of it, anyway...

  • @LGTheOneFreeMan

I was just listening to "Hold The Line" and read whereToto's drummer said this is where he got the inspiration for the intro riff...

  • @tubeyounity Wow. I never would have put the two together. But now that you mention it.....

  • @tubeyounity I totally feel it!

  • As I remember it (I was 11 when this song peaked) it was late September - early October. To me this song was a fond rememberance of a summer past. I stiil play it in the fall to remember my summers as a kid...

  • @andyman58 Bingo..........you are correct it was back to school and the end of the summers from the 60's..........never to be the same again........I miss them and my youth I was 15 at the time.......

  • Reminds me of my baby!

  • it's so sad that Sly Stone is broke and homeless now. I guess you can't keep riches forever!!

  • I had a good summer day, when this song would play ha ha

  • I had a good summer day, when this song would play ha ha

  • yes...wow.....keep comin back after years and years....need it bad

  • I remember running through the fields catching butterflies that summer. Would come home and put on my 6 transistor radio and this great song would be playing. When I hear this song those wonderful days of growing up warm my soul.

  • not everybody in the world can be a singer, song writer, and Multi-Instrumentalist type of musician. those accolades are beyond the comprehension of the majority and set the standard !!! All in the name of harmony and love !!!

  • my man sly,,,how did u become homeless? too much talent my man

  • A true timeless perfect song! Thank you Otaku for posting this.

  • You're welcome, mountainbliss4u-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @mountainbliss4u Thank You

  • I am not tying to be facetious to SIR Sylvester Stewart, but I would happily dwell in his most humble of a domicile to be in the mere presence of the Sultan Of Soul himself!!!!

  • tawheedization,

Because your comment had nothing to do with this song, I deleted it.

    60otaku3

  • this is funk

  • You're welcome, wwonka52-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • OMG!!! This is the jam..sit back and close my eyes and imagine the amazing fun I had during that time...wow this is awesome..

  • I was five when this song came out and I still remember dancing with my dad to it whenever it came on the radio. Why, oh why don't they make music like this any more?

  • I don't mind Fall- but the end of Summer makes me so sad.

  • i wish i could have been around during this :(

  • saw them live two nights ago, they were amazing! one of the best live bands i've seen

  • brings me back to highschool... my english teacher was so cool she would play this shit at the begining of class while everyone was gettin in and settlin down with there books n' shit... shed blast this song to the point where youd hear it walking down the hallway and know that was good ol' mrs. Jeffrey

  • I miss this kind of music. I sure to remember these guys, though. And righ tnow it's still summer and it's 81 deg outside (27Cel) Good for Sept 5

  • im gonna play this every summer now ;)

  • awesome..thx a million 4 this upload!! oooh yeah♪..hot fun in the summertime♫

  • You're welcome, mzzchezchez-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • this music is good for your soul

  • best summer song ever

  • @birdinator2 goes without saying

  • I don't think too many people here in Texas are singing this song.....Highs around 103-108 and setting records, lows in the low to mid 80's and setting records. Summer of 2011 is on par with the summer of 1980 as the worst summer in Texas. But still a fun song though.

  • A song that brings you the images of a time when there was a certain awareness what it really happened and your voice was irreverent slowly or strongly. Times with a high sense of art in various dimensions, music was one of them. Now time belong to the arrogant mediocre self fish who really believed that they are the supermen to save this wonderful country called USA.

  • High; Hiiiiiiiiiigh,,Hiiiiiiiiiigh,,,Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh there !!!!!!!!! YES!

  • GREAT!!!

  • Good Stuff!

  • Nothing major but YouTube needs to remove the dislike option from obvious song choices as to avoid the occasional person accidentally (that's the only reason I could imagine) thumbing something as beautiful as this down?!

  • @Annamandabella great idea, totally agree, i mean jeez, it has to be by accident, how could someone not LOVE this? :) some songs shouldn't even have a dislike button. disliking this song is not an option!!!!

  • Serious old skool memories while living in Elmira New York....

  • @saleenxxx

Agreed, very cool - I grew up just outside Hamburg, in Eden 50's and 60's.

  • YES!!!! I love this song..takes me back !!! Thanks for posting it:-)

  • You're welcome, guavaduff310-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • What a tune.....saw Eels do this in Brighton & they pulled it off too :)

  • @holcroft1969 Indeed :)

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh . . . what good memories!!!

  • so nice.......so smooooovvvve..........

  • Love this great track

  • ...such a great song....STILL....Sly and the family grooved....man...!!!

  • This is one of the GREAT classics that represents so uniquely well to us all. Its rock its R&B groovy crusin reality and life. Eat well people and stay healthy. Sex and Love. lol.. All good.

  • This song always reminds me of a girl I met at church camp in the summer of '69. I wonder where Mary is now?

  • What a Great Timeless Classic! Really takes Me Back :-)

  • Such a cool song to listen to when you are in such extreme heat. 1:07 My brother use to try and mimic his voice. I love you brother but I never had the heart to tell you that your voice just never got that deep LOL :-D.

  • Oh, man. This is when public free radio was so F'n good!

  • Gr8 soung. Gr8 memories of that era. Thanx for posting this clip.

  • You're welcome, vicmicver818-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • this song brings back the best memories of when time was alotcooler and fun was for real

  • summer of love, woodstock, and sly!!! oh yeah, i remember

  • yeah baby :) hot fun in the summertime :)

  • How can there be a summer w/out this great song?

  • I should NOT have listened to this song, because now I have an overwhelming desire to go to the beach IMMEDIATELY..............

  • @MalibuSunandSurf U must not come from the generation that the song came from...those of us that do, this song brings us right back to the summer of our youth and it is sweet just the way it is...that's ok that u don't care for the Mamas and the Papas parts....I get it!!

  • This song is proof of Sly's musical genius. Over the years there have been many songs that attempted to catch the essence and innocence of summer, but this is one of the best!!

  • Modern songs like Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez songs can't be compared to this masterpiece.

  • Happy Summer and also Independence Day Weekend (July 4th...no work Monday! =D) everyone....its hot as fuck today and as much as songs like this one make me move its worth it, 'cause these "Summer Songs" like this one make me feel sooo good.

  • HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME HELL YEA!!

  • Yo have good taste in music

  • Thank you pinkydogbear-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • kick ass bass line

  • was a manger of a woolworth in upstate new york in 70s and I use to play this song when a bunch of the local boys would come in and they would really get in to it and start dancing .Kids today could not touch these kids when it came to dancing.Maybe one of those kids might read this and bring back old memories of there youth

  • One of the best songs produced. Its always been a favorite of mine. Love listening to it with the car windows rolled down! Summer I love you!

  • @secondchapter

HEY I do the same thing.

  • This a bonafide classic:D

  • You're welcome, LiverPuncher-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @LiverPuncher I thought the exact same thing...It could be on the radio right now and be a hit!! This song is my starting "summer" song...once I hear this it's official!!

  • Classic

  • Every year at the summer solstice, I crack open a cold beer & toast the arrival of summer with this song!

  • Please do not post the suggestive comment here.

It means that you do not like this song.

    ...Otaku3

  • ONE OF THE CRAZIEST KOOL GROUPS 2 EVRY DO THEY THANG EVEN 2DAY THEY DEFINE KOOL N HIP...4 REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This reminds me of a summer as a late teenager on Marthas Vineyard in 71 and I was living the life and the song was so true-I fell in love with a beautiful blonde from Vassar and she was back to school in the first of the fall.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE This SONG!!!

  • Still listening to this song after 42 years of summer.

  • Love to mix this and Misunderstanding by Genesis. Great music!!

  • ♫ HI - HI - HI - HI THERE ♫ ♥ =) Can't wait to have some hot fun this summer ♥

  • OMG one of the best songs that year. It still sounds so great; Ii am thrilled to be hearing this one again. I had forgotten about this. Ah, sweet youth, we all have it and we all lose it. Thank you for this post.

  • You're welcome, 0917gva-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • Yes, hot fun in the summer time, one of my favorites by them!!!!

  • sooooo glad to hav come up on this sht!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song! And, great band is right, Paggyann. I totally agree, they just don't make music like this anymore. This was back before they "compartmentalized" radio. You could hear rock, soul, country, all on the same hit music station. Feel Good stuff for sure. We need more of this. Thanks Otaku3!

  • You're welcome, sunnycat46-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • Great band. Will never hear music like this again.

  • @paggyann1932 unless someone gets their head straight and plays it!!!!

  • It's virtually impossible to be in a bad mood when listening to this song. I bet even if you got shot listening to this song, you wouldn't even be upset.

  • WooHOO!!!!!!!! Summer just started. This is going on repeat!

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

  • This song IS summer!

  • brings back those good memories of better times!

  • This one never grows old... still sounds great!! :)

  • "I cloud 9 when I want to"

Hey all you "cats and chicks"...here's to your "cloud 9"

Summer is a month away and for all north of the equator, have a safe, "hot fun" summertime!

  • Thank you 60オタク3-さん

Definitely a favourite. I was 5 years old when this song was released and to this day I never let the summer go by without listening to it a million times! Great memories of backyard pool parties, playing clackers (remember those!)...and strolling along the Harbourfront with our portable radio.

  • Thank you for the comment, Bellavirgo50-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • my favorite sly and family song. wonderful memories. thanks!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • "County fair in the country sun...and everything is cool."

  • This is one of my favorites. Thanks for posting it because it takes me back to the hot summers of Jersey when it was great to have a block party with no drama.

  • You're welcome, dreid1500-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • It is that time of year.........

  • AWESOME '''' TOOOOOO BAD THEY DON'T MAKE MUCI LIKE THIS ANYMORE

  • This song fades way too early!! If only they kept it going for another 45 seconds!

  • @MotownConnoisseur30 - Or 45 minutes, right? Love it!

  • There's some great summer songs and everyone has their personal favorite; a couple of examples, All Day Music by WAR, Summer in the City by the Spoonful, but for my money it's Sly and his family Stone and this gem.

  • My annual anthem to get me hype for the summer!

  • 60otaku3:I should never be surprised in your excellent music taste!

  • Thank you, hremdldw-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • ~~~AWESOME~~~

  • It makes me miss summer 1973-1989. Good memories.

  • @kyrgyzstanification

I grew up in San Francisco and I did the same thing listen to the am/fm radio.

We all grew up at a dynamic time for music etc. Love this group for the harmony in more ways than one.

  • I get happy feelings listening to this.

  • Song makes me feel so good. Reminds me of my childhood days. Amidst all the racism, segregation, WAR, HATE, ANGST, music always pulls me thru. And Im crying typing this. Them days are gone.....and I doubt I will ever EVER feel that good again.......There in the country sun.....and evrathang is COOOL!!!!!

  • I can still smell the warm sea breeze at the beach everything I hear this song. =D

  • I was just a poor white kid from the suburbs of San Francisco when I first heard this on AM radio in my Mom's battered 73 Beetle, and I instantly fell in love, was moved, the way few songs then or since then moved me. It sounds as great today as it did then, but my ability to really feel music has declined, sadly.

  • The summer of 69, my friend and I went to Grant Park in Chicago for a free concert staring Sly and the Family Stone. While waiting for the concert everyone was sharing their weed and wine. First time I smoked weed. Sly never showed and caused a riot windows were broken along Michigan Avenue. Many arrest where made and I do believe that was the end of the free summer concert series.

    Wild memories!

  • this song is orange soda pop, hotdogs and walking on the beach on a saturday afternoon. Thankyou for posting it!

  • You're welcome, gm56100-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • @gm56100 That's really depressing.. I like this tune, but that is a bit over the top. Sorry if i'm causing offence, but that would give me a headache.

  • @gm56100 ...and bar-b-cue, and potato salad, and chasing girls, and fireflies, and good books, and a feeling of infinite possibilities.

  • @gm56100

    Sounds like fun :)

  • Man. why did soul music go away? I grew up with this stuff. hail Sly!

  • @MandyVin17 agree! Oh those days! Miss them badly.
