This was the most wonderful show ever made. Few examples from tv could approach the sort of morality taught on The Andy Griffith Show. There'll never be another like it.
Everthing these men touched was gold ; just pure gold. I know that world will soon go back to this and I can hardly wait for the beauty of it all again.
@vantalge Speak for yourself. Conservatives are alot kinder than the mopey, dopey liberals I know. They are not usually the ones wishing evil on others, buddy. bsd300d is probably another hateful lib posing as a disgruntled conserv. St. Peter has now retired from his duties at The Pearly Gates with full peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that Barney Fife now stands vigil. With ticket book & pen close at hand, gun at his side, and bullet in his pocket, Barney stands ready to carefully scrutinize the records of the scofflaws who skipped putting a dime in the parking meter, or the town hooligans who littered the streets, or the outlaws who dared to imbibe in their barnyard stills.
What few people know is that the Andy Griffith Show was a spin off of The Danny Thomas Show.
There was an episode of that show where Danny Thomas gets pulled over for speeding and it's Sherriff Andy Griffith that pulls him over. And Thomas is brought into the courthouse that was more of a barn than a courthouse. And Griffith was both the Sherriff and Justice of the Peace.
I believe it was Thomas that noticed Griffith's stand up and offered him his own show..which was a success.
You have got to see Any Griffith in Billy Bob Thorton's DADDY AND THEM. In one scene, Andy, who plays the daddy, says "Son-of-a-bitch". Then he tells Billy Bob to keep his pecker in his pants or as he puts it, "Keep your horse in the barn."
If you watched the earliest "Andy Griffith" shows, Andy Taylor was the comedian and Barney more of the straight man! I guess they realized that reversing roles made for a better show.
CALL these old shows whatever this stinkin rap and Gaga generation wants to - but I know I can sit my little girl in front of these old shows and the values, humor, and lack of swearing is a safe place for her to enjoy her childhood. Of course, the kids will only watch as good as the parents do, so the blame is for the irresponsibility of parents.....
@taledarkside thanks. i did always think so but a comment on this video had me wonder otherwise. I was a child in the 1960's and remember all these shows with nostalgia and affection
My all-time favorite tv comedy. I watch it daily. And yes Captmiloman I DO REMEMBER "Salvage 1"...I really enjoyed it (while it lasted). Andy and Don were great actors and great people as well. God bless them both.
Honestly, it's like Matt Lauer has never seen the show. Seriously asking about major crime in Mayberry?! Plus other things. Tries to play it off, but I think he's 'pumping sunshine'. Hard to believe from a guy who works in the television business.
@unleashthecookie you obviously are looking to arouse a reaction out of someone. You dont deserve it. But i would like to tell you that you are a disgusting human being. You are obviously a middle school age person with no life and no clue. I hope you die. And thats not a joke.
@unleashthecookie - Who in the living hell is going to care about comments made from a (probably 6 year old) little bastard who calls himeslf "unleash the cookie." Sounds like something from Sesame Street. Gosh, you must have slaved for a full 40 seconds to come up with a name as juvenile (big surprise), stupid (well, obviously) and ugly (one can bet you're certainly a mirror-cracker yourself) as that. Unleashthecookie- what a scary, big-tough-he-man you must be, you pathetic gay dick.
@unleashthecookie You've got some nerve being this disrespectful to these great actors. Obviously, you've never enjoyed true talent. I'm 17 and I'll proudly admit that I watch The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock with great pride. These are fine Christian men who I will get to meet one day.
@unleashthecookie Dammit Otis. You've been drinking that hard stuff from out of town again. You shoulda' know'd better by now.
G'won now. Get in your cell. It's gonna be an awful hangover for you tomorrow, so get your rest. I'll have Aunt Bee make something in the morning for it.
Andy Griffith's pathological jealousy of Don Knotts left Don liompet.Too bad. The result was that Mayberry became a Soviet Potemkin Vlige that trained Lee Harvey amd other useful heroes.
i was born in 87 but have watched this show literally my whole life. we always watched it as a kid and still watch it today since it comes on tvland. barneys so funny
Wonderful,.... a Cop should only be Andy Griffith, One for Love! and Love only is the way to make your world the one you want to live in with no regret(s) peace and Everything flows in Beauty, Love and nothing else can save us, but our love.... :)
The Andy Griffith Show is always the best! My mom always watches that and I watch it on occasion I loved Opie and all of them really it was such a feel good cozy show. Haha look at Matt's hair!!!!
I am not old enough to remember when this show first came on or am I old enough to remember when the show ended or am I old enough to remember when the Tv movie came out. But I do remember watching tvland and seeing the RIP Don Knotts and all the reruns of the show. I fell in love with the show and I did not know who Don Knotts was until a little while later. So I never really felt the pain some had of losing Barney. But when Andy leaves us I will be sad. On the bright side we will have Ron.
Sadly, Andy must have forgotten the lesson taught on one of the TV seriies. A young man upset a vefetable truck and he spent time in jail. While he was there it was portrayed that bailing someone out was not the proper lesson. Now Andy in real life supports the greatest bail out man alive! (Obama) I guess the reality has left his mind of pretence .......
I haven't met anyone who didn't like Andy and Barney and the show in whole. Young or old - The Andy Griffith Show was a hit for everybody. It had everything. Even listening to the cast singing, like a one big happy family. I enjoyed some episodes when they end the show with singin' and dancin'. 'Cause when it finished ... I ended up whistlin' as well .... Thank you Andy and Don,(and the whole cast) for inviting me to visit Mayberry each week.
Two great men of a lost era. Don Knotts taught us to laugh at ourselves. Andy Griffith is still a giant amoung men. When he leaves us, it will be a sad day, but he and Mr. Knotts will always be with us.
Thanks gotch09. I sure do love TAGS. Barney didn't move to Mount Pilot. He moved to Raleigh and worked in the police dept, fingerprint division. Yes, Warren replaced Barney, for the 1965-66 season. He was played by stand up comedian Jack Burns. The chemistry that was so rich between Andy and Barney was not there with Andy and Warren. Andy had no deputy in the last 2 seasons, 1966-1968.
@tonysshadow Who still says "yankee"? Isn't that "divisive"? I thought we were all "Americans",hmmmm.... And you're a "former Marine"? Right. A REAL Marine knows ONCE a Marine ALWAYS a Marine. Not "ex" ,"former","used to be". Yeah....right.
The greatest tv program ever. Thank you Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea, Opie, Thelma Lou, Helen, Otis Campbell, Gomer, Goober, Floyd, John Masters, Clara Edwards...and all the other residents who will forever live in the perfect American town of Mayberry NC. I have been watching since the beginning and still watch and enjoy on DVD today.
@68lincoln Maybe you can help me. You seem to be Andy educated. After Barney left for Mount Pilot, there was another deputy on. I think his name was Warren? When did he join the cast and how was he on the show? I know this may be a little obscure.
Matt not only had a full head of hair back then, but his cheeks were full also. He sure has changed. If I start losing my hair, I'm getting a toupee! lol
Aunt B was the 1st to pass away. It was sad coz she had no family or friends really. They found her body in a old run down house. According to the reports on the News they found a Nash Rambler in the garage that was never driven that was a gift to her from Andy Griffith when she left the show.
I look at Don Knotts, and I look at the film actors of today. For the life of me, I can think of no one living today who could fill his shoes.
This show was called "The Andy Griffith Show", but in reality, Don Knotts was the one who made this show what it was. Even Andy Griffith has acknowledged this point.
What a great great show. I have DVDs for the years Don Knotts was on as "Barney" and it's still genius comedy. It's just a shame this type of innocent family comedy isn't on TV anymore. Pure gold. Pure genius TV comedy.
He doesn't have to sign autographs. How about just enjoying all of his great work and let him live the rest of his life in peace. Never was into people bothering stars when they were out in public. Wonder where you were and if you were bothering him.
Not only will he not sign them, he will make you feel like a fool for even asking him. A very mean man. Others around him signed for me but Griffith was a real a hole.
How about answering what you were doing? He doesn't have to sign autographs for crazy fans. I have heard how "fans" bother celebirtes while they are out eating dinner, etc. I have heard nothing but great stories about Andy Griffith from fans and stars. I take your story with a grain of salt!
I can't think of a show that expressed compassion for others, politeness, and wholesome values better while still being something one could enjoy so much. A strongly believe I picked up good moral values during my childhood from watching this show. Kids are so impressionable, as well as, prone to want to watch tv for hours on end. This show was good for me and I still enjoy it.
Andy Griffith and Don Knotts were the best and funniest comedy team ever. We will never see the likes of what these two did. The Andy Griffith show is my all time favorite and no matter how many times I see it I still crack up. I still miss Don Knotts and don't want to think about Andy leaving us. My Mom used to ask me if I ever wanted to live in a small town. I said if it was Mayberry and Andy and Barney were there I would. God Bless Andy Griffith!
You're right. This was definitely one of the greatest shows ever in the history of television. It was perfectly cast, starting with Andy and Don, both comedic geniuses.
This was the most wonderful show ever made. Few examples from tv could approach the sort of morality taught on The Andy Griffith Show. There'll never be another like it.

Wonder where you were and if you were bothering him.
candyliggett01 2 years ago 6
Not only will he not sign them, he will make you feel like a fool for even asking him. A very mean man. Others around him signed for me but Griffith was a real a hole.
nesnman 2 years ago

God Bless Andy Griffith!
candyliggett01 2 years ago 39
You're right. This was definitely one of the greatest shows ever in the history of television. It was perfectly cast, starting with Andy and Don, both comedic geniuses.

More than TV actors on a popular show...
They were friends of the family.
