DO NOT HATE...It actually is a great tip and whoever here did any big live show can tell you this: SOUND ENGINEERS, PRODUCERS TEND TO LOOK AT THE PARAMETERS AND LIGHTS - but the often forget that what the see is not the music people hear. Believe me it's very hard to realize that. I worked for big concert promoters as a production manager and i spoke with many great sound engineers and what they do is THEY LISTEN. The idea is if music sounds like shit- why look at the compessor shining green?
all haters must fuck themselves big time ! why are you mothafuckaz commenting bullshits,if you don t like it , or don t find it handy enough?!you are the cocksuckers , not this guy...
I don't think people get the ZEN of this. It's absolutely scientifically proven and replicated in experiments, that visual attention can overshadow other sensory input. Therefore it's a great tip. (btw I did my PhD in that area)
Bro you are so right though..... any real remixer will rely on the best sense you have when doing audio and thats is you ability to hear....... I'm from the ole school of mixing and remixing. I did it on the fly before computer had the power to even handle a simple sampling task....
haha i´ve my projects done i listen over and over again.... whats the point ive not your music must be shit. And it dosent help Beginners -.- FAIL...
I´ve you want to produce some huge stuff go and listen to your favorite music check all the details and after that start producing similiar like the tune.
For the reason your going to finish it you need to turn down the volume - 4 db and use Eq and autofilter to delete annoying stuff you dont need in it.
1:07 if that was a drop in a song, it would've considered the most catisrophiclly horrible drop in the world....after makeing this video I hope this guy got hit by a bus.... Listen mark are a fucking ass whole for making this .....literally someone should pull ther penis out and hit you in the face with it
mate that's actually true... while producing you need to listen to the track without having in mind how to make any tweaks on the gear... very simple but still very few persons do that.....and don't let haters affect you, i doubt they even have a descent production out there...cheers
What were you exptecting, looking for an 'amazing ableton tip'? It's not magic guys x)
Actually, I totally agree with the idea of this video. It's sometimes important to get back and just listen. Without checking anything. Just imagine you didn't produce the song and you want to criticize it. Get back to the essential. And this one thing is actually pretty hard to do !
That's also the reason why most of the time, it's better to get the mastering done by someone else.
@kittenestkat so much on hardware and i cant still remember any of your productions...oooh i forgot u dont have any , so you just put your hate on youtube comments.... cool !
Are u fuckin' kidding me??? How about just use your eyelids and shut your fuckin' eyes for a second...what a joke...thanks for the awesome mixing tip idiot.
tutorial should be should be called "how minimize and maximize" a window... and if people don't already know how to do that... good luck learning to use ableton:P
very important thing. i also like to put my music on my ipod. go outside and listen to it while walking. youll get a million ideas how to make it sound better
explaining how to minimize a window for 2+ minutes is silly but it's true that you need to concentrate on the music. Robert Henke (monolake, father of Ableton Live, -_-' ) has a m4l patch just for this cause.
The tutorial sounds like a joke but if you think about it, it isn't. It really helps in producing if you are not looking at your bars. Especially for arrangement and mixing, play the song and don't look at it, so you hear it like a listener on the floor or infront of his speakers. Sometimes I also like to leave the room and go into anotherone or do stuff like washing dishes while listening to my song. Another tip is listen to another song and your own after.
Great tip Mark. :D I have to do this too. I get distracted by the display, and trick myself into hearing things I'm not. I tend to get up and walk around and try to focus on just hearing the music instead of thinking about the individual bits that I'm actually trying to analyze.
could you do a video on how to set the proper levels of typical instruments while making a trance or Pop track ..and Mastering them so that don't sound too dull neither on stereo speakers..nor while listening with Headphones..
so, hes point is when u have ableton live opened you so many things going on do distract you that you dont pay attention to track so minimize it and listen how loud is the bass the kicks etc get everyting leveled to get a good mixin.
it's acutally a good tip, thumbs up because many people think he's joking xD
I usually focus my eyes at my speaker instead of the screen. Somehow, that make me really focus at the sounds coming out of it. Or, when I want to "feel" rather than analyze, I get up and walk about the room while playing the song.
2:23 to demonstrate the "mininize window" function. You might wanna combine this tip with something that is actually usefull... No insult intended, just "constructive critisism" :D
haha some good tips with a nice sense of humour. I actually set my EQ/compressor this way as well, I don't watch the screen neither my controler (APC), I just turn the knobs (I know what I m doing ), until I'm happy with the settings. But no indication, no treshold, no ratio, all by ears. Usually it works
A good way to quickly improve a very rough mix is to lower the volume of your monitor at maximum. Then you can check what's hearable or not, what's above the rest or not, it's a very good and efficient way to harmonize volumes of various tracks. Also when working on mix, avoid to endlessly loop, instead play the music, stop it, make your modification, play it again etc. Don't adjust settings while the music is going. Your ears notice more difference when stopping / restarting.
Agree 100%, instead of minimizing the screen, i usually grab a control i want to set with the mouse, then look down at the floor and just listen while i move the control to how i like it..
It is a good tip..
