So where is all this money that will pay for this healthcare come from? I guess most people haven't seen the terrible healthcare in Europe and Canada. WHO is going to pay for it? Are we going to BEG China to come to our rescue ? The Kucinich Dream team is at it again.
Bottom line: I voted for President Obama and I respect what he is trying to do, but you can't implement such a radical change on such a grand scale (universal healthcare) without creating a supporting infrastructure first. If he wants universal healthcare, the government needs to build federal hospitals across the country and invest in scholarships so more people can afford to go to medical school. The private sector cannot handle the influx that would occur under what he is proposing.
lol do people really think govt will lower healthcare costs? Tell me what programs have they done which lowered costs for people? Look how badly they run Amtrak and the Post Office yet people want them to run healthcare?
My care is not rationed - can see any Dr I want - I can go to any hospital. If I get cancer I am given whatever chemo it takes and not some rationed amount. So stop your lies. Our health care system ranks higher then yours and in fact there are 36 nations that have a better system then the American one and do it for less.
Yes and there are other cancers as well what we lead in.. A more comprehensive measure is non communicable disease mortality rates. According to the W.H.O. Canadians are more likely to survive a non communicable disease than an American - Hence why live 3 years longer dumbass
Dont get me wrong I dont hate all Americans and overall I wish them well. I just have a problem with them thinking they are better then everyone else and the complete ignorance displayed towards my country. I ran into an american tranferring at phoenix who thought Canada was a communist nation. .....or my favourite Socialist
Loaded - There have been a few studies done on the subject of medcal tourism, none of them support the lie that Canadians are pouring accross the border. One study states at the most 5500 Canadians sought Care in the USA that is .016%. Bumrungrad hospital in Thailand saw 56,000 US ^patients in 2005 and 64K in 2006. This is just one hospital in One country that saw this many Americans. My friend who is from India talks about the US patients who go their for health in his former home town
Our income taxes are among the lowest in the OECD and are comparible to the USA. A person with 96,000 income pays only 25% income tax- As for cost of public Health - No country (public or private) spends as much as americans on their health care
And with the liberal tax and spend nuts running America now our taxes will skyrocket and we will have to suffer with a rationed garbage health system!
You already have a rationed healthcare system. Do you have unlimited money?
Your health care is only going to go as far as your money takes you, Or what the private insurance industry has left after they extract their arm and leg.
Regardless of how it's administered unless it's unlimited it's rationed.
HELLO Defeat(ist)Iraq-or more likely, you could be named, REDNECKCITY...lol You are attacking Elizabeth Kucinich, a gracious lady who served three years under Mother Theresa to help children in a third world country. There is something terribly bent about you.
I think the current system in America is not working. However, universal healthcare has definite negative consequences. I think neither extreme is the answer but some sort of middle ground needs to be reached.
I like Ron Paul's idea. But i'm open to suggestion.
NONPROFIT means lazy and half-ass--look folks I ran a 401c in texas and it was not working nor do most non-p's work..do your research it sounds great but it really is not..in fact most close down because they are so ineffectual. It is a bad idea to want universal health care..I want it to be competitive and to offer more for what little money i have
401c is not Universal Health Care nor is nonprofit organizations lazy and half-assed. News flash, there is hardly anymore "competition" between these HMOs, PPOs, or whatever private insurance health care providers want to call themselves. Their trade organizations are setting the standard now, kinda like a cartel, YOU are the one who needs to do more "research". You want more for what little money you have? Private Healthcare RESTRICTS your freedoms to see doctors, run tests, get medicine, etc.
Not for profit means that doctors make a good living, but not a killing. In Europe, the not-for-profit system attracts doctors who actually CARE for the people. They live well and drive nice cars, too. If the healthcare field is leveled so that no one is left out-that creates fair competition, but shifts it from who makes the most money to who cares for the most people-the government could offer bonuses to doctors and clinics showing the most healthy patients.
besides you have been in the US for a short while and you have been married to kucinich most of that time--YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT AMERICAN HOSPITALS ARE LIKE AND WHAT NON-PROFIT HOSPITALS ARE LIKE--YOU REALLY HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT WHAT SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T BE IN THE US
She is from the UK so she knows what non-profit hospitals are like. Have you ever had for profit police or firemen which do you think would be better.
Police and firefighters fill roles necessary to the security and most basic structure essential for society to exist. These can not be compared to healthcare anymore than apples can be compared to oranges.
I sympathize with the goal of universal healthcare, but its unsustainable. Lack of resources has resulted in lack of services and forced many British citizens to turn to medical tourism (in places such as India) for treatment. I am also opposed to any plan that forces my participation.
Oh please just ask a veteran how the VA hospital treats them...anything where you have the govt involved is going to suck..i am not interested in it. I would rather have insurance companies compete for my money the way they do for car insurance..its not going to work
You are correct-that the government should not run medical facilities. Under Dennis' plan, the middle man (insurance co.) is removed, placing the quality of care back to the doctor where it belongs-it is different than the VA which is run by military branch of the government. Single payer doesn't mean that your healthcare is government owned, it simply means it is government funded.
Your comments sound reasonable, but I would like to contend that nothing is government funded, as any government is funded by the wealth / value created by it's citizens.
You seem to know much about Dennis' plan. If put in place, would I be free to opt out? That is, would I be free to choose to not pay into the plan and at the same time not accept any of its benefits?
Yes, you could opt out if you were not interested in participating-because in the Kucinich plan, there is no out of pocket. If you didn't use the plan, that would be your choice, but if you needed the benefit, it would be available to you. Unfortunately, Dennis K. is no longer running for the Presidency so his plan is unlikely to be adopted. Hillary would force ALL citizens to pay into insurance...a disaster waiting to happen if you don't want to opt IN..Obama is middle ground between the two.
I appreciate your genuine response - typically I get a negative or condescending response from others. Even though there is no "out of pocket", I hope I still wouldn't be indirectly funding it through tax dollars. I'm completely indifferent to a government plan as long as its optional - what worries me most is the potential a government plan has to fail - in such as case, we would have an entire generation dependent on a failing system, with no options- a deep hole to climb out of indeed.
Elizabeth, you are so right on your bake sales comment - why do americans put up with this? You've got my vote - now let's get everyone else's! keep it up!
Because of our understanding of economics. You can't fund all this without thousands being put on waiting lists. To learn why we can't afford this system view the fun video:" Dirty Little Secret - Universal Healthcare? Social Security? " Its funny that you arrogantly imply that this low income honors college student, who is heavily in debt, disagrees with your opinion because he is greedy and not because of valid intellectual and academic reasons. whatever.
You are infintely wise these people are uneducated and want something for nothing if they would look at what damage the govt. does when it sticks its big hand in things they would know that it sounds great but it would not work.
I've been told by Stanford University, I need brain surgery to cure and control my seizures but I don't have health insurance.
Can you please help me stop my seizures by writing letters on my behalf to Senator Dianne Feinstein of California to intervene on my behalf in expediting my Medical application, therefore, I could have my brain surgery to stop my seizures and live as normal life.
The reason veteran's health and the wars that create shattered veterans are mismanaged is that the current administration has subcontracted these things to for-profit entities. Take the profit motive out of the equation, return the quality of service motive, and the problem is solved.
The main cause of obesity in the UK is caused by US imports like fast foods such as MuckDonalds's hamburgers, on the whole the NHS is working very well and very popular and it is also democratically controlled, unlike the biz men in the USA. No UK government (of any electable party) would dare to abolish it and send England back to the bad old days when you health depended on your wealth.
Kucinich is the real deal on so many issues. He wants to lift america up than just give it a band aid. Even if Gore was in the race Dennis would still have the stronger platrom.

This Health Care has just got to be done and it seems like Dennis is the only one who not only says he will do it, but also wants to do it and will do it. We all need to get the word out to more and more people that there is a candidate worth our vote. Thank you Elizabeth Kucinich for sharing.

ron paul is pro-government when it comes to closing off borders and trying hopelessly to stem the tide that deregulation has created. he wants to use governmental powers to make sure that the US regress away from global cooperation and becomes more of a rogue nation.
basically, ron paul thinks government should not interfere in an increasingly skewed economic sector and let big-buisness run rampant, but it should step in and punish and imprison the people who are the victims of the system he would proliferate. ron paul will ensure that the US does not move forward towards the only way to prevent global conflict and nuclear war: "universal global accountability".

The truth is, the answer to our problems is NOT more government involvement in healthcare.
The answer is LESS -- so the free market can inexpensively and efficiently distribute much-needed healthcare services to ALL American citizens.
But, of course, thats not what those in power in Washington D.C. really want.
After all, that would mean theyd have less POWER and less CONTROL over our lives -- and power and control are EXACTLY what this fight is all about.
