  • This is the type of music that I grew up on and have loved forever...it brings back so many beautiful memories of the times when life was good, music was even greater!

  • Jessica was with Phillip and Larry came by my crib in DC in the 70's who knew how big they would get. I heard Jessica was the girl friend of Jim Brown.

  • DAVID COPPERFIELD COULDN'T BRING US BETTER MAGIC.

  • Im grew up listening to my mother play EWF, Im a fan, Im only 39. Jessica Cleaves, very nice. When I make cds EWF is a must on them, gooooood music, todays music is so different.

  • THIS IS THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIMES!!!!!!!

  • this would be a great song for marching bands

  • That is Jessica Cleaves who sang with The Friends Of Distinction, who sang "grazing in the grass "was on two EWF albums but she left to become a mother before they blew up in 1975....she is an awesome vocalist..she did backing vocals on Head To The Sky and she was the one who sang in the highest register...

  • Still sounds good

  • This is one of those songs that touch my heart evrytime I hear it. I get goosebumps and very emotional. These types of songs don't come around everyday. Even less frequent today than when this song was released.

  • my greatest song ever period.

  • woke up with this song on my mind. i know who this is for

  • Masterpiece. Straight up.

  • Jean Carn sang with Norman Conners, this is Jessica Cleaves

  • My first EWF album & the cover is framed in my LR!

  • this is one baddd jam

  • @kymsturr That is not Jean Carne.

  • THE INCREDIBLE JESSICA

  • @clubland459 Jessica Cleaves

  • Is the vocalist Jessica Cleaves? I always thought it was Jean Carne.

  • @clubland459 me too!!!! Both voices are beautiful tho

  • I love rare ewf!

  • this woman is unbelievable. She not only hung with earth but turned in a classic performance in true ewf style!

  • your missed Maurice

  • The fifth line goes "scheming on wealth isn't my thing"

  • Wonderful...just flawless performance.....

  • That sounds so much like Jean Carn. Hmmm.

  • Tierra, Viento y Fuego.

  • Great arrangement...That's what's missing in today's music...no real arranging ..just yelling and sampling...

  • @freein2339 You can find good music today too. With the internet there really is no excuse. We're not limited to Top 40 radio.

  • @TruthSerum101 I know that but the amount of good music today is nowhere near as much as it was years ago...

  • @freein2339 AMEN trying to embrace it is like trying to embrace the wind, like so many dear friends, relatives, and good times, they pass on and the world as we know it is a different place with a song that we can't really dance to or sing along with true harmony or conviction to what love is or what it means.

  • Yes i grew up on this music in the 70's , I've seen EWF many times they are still amazing even without the original members. Philip Bailey works out at my gym so i see him every so often. This is classic music

  • I have loved E,W and F sicne the early 70s..Their music is so moving...The ol' school is always better....Peace

  • They just don't make this kind of music anymore. I remembr playing this over and over back in the day on vinyl.

  • @purplelady56 ..yes this was good music....Most of thieir music was great..Have you heard 'Think about lovin' you' by E.W and F? that song is a heartstopper...Peace

  • Stay with this one to the end. You'll be glad you did.

  • jessica cleaves .... listen to her in 'friends of distinction'. try "i really hop you do".

(blue light in the basement :)

  • what i wouldn't give for today's music to have this harmony, message, emotion and talent...

  • EWF what can you say but WOW!

  • Jessica's ability to bounce around vocally thru the chords of this song is amazing and her adlib was stunning!! not too many females would've been able to role with this group and the complicated musical theory...my hats off to her!

  • @RaceIsOpen this is exactly why EWF recorded this hit with Ms. Cleaves, because of her amazing vocals and ad libs. Awesome!

  • I meant to say a super sonG..lol. loved the harmonics and melody. The whole structure of the song and of course Jessica!

  • was going to college when this album came out. i remember fridays feeling lonely missing someone special and this song always made me whole.

  • 1:14 sampled in TeTris - Ladeezee (prod. by Static Selektah)

  • This is so good it's ridiculous :).I'm glad i got to grow up listenin to this stuff instead of a lot of what's fed to youngins today

  • @cameraman7

I agree with you cause I don't know what this stuff is that the young people listen to today. It has no meaning and it never express anything about love. It's sad that they missed out on what we grew up to.

  • @cameraman7 What a lovely comment. Jessica's voice is so pure its just amazing. I first heard this in the 70s when I was going out with my husband. We're not together now but still friends. With music like this to unite us what better?? Also had the pleasure of seeing EW&F live in 1979 in Stafford England. Never forgotten that day. Wonderful.x

  • I have been looking for this songs for years!!!!! I love it. Thanks love112489

  • a super son!

  • WOW. first time i heard this song. after all the years of listening to EWF. I dedicate this song to my son, a US Marine, who will soon deploy to Afghanistan. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS. ID RATHER HAVE YOU HOME MY SON.... SEMPER FIDELIS

  • one of the baddest groups in the world was fortunate to live in the chi when they were doing it up right ,love me sum evil too!!!

  • It broke my heart when Jessica Cleaves left EWF. I was mad at them for a minute because I heard that Jessica being the only girl amongst all those guys...was temperamental (esp. certain times of the month) and the guys got tired of dealing with it (especially Phillip) you know how we .don't feel like doing anything but curling up with some Midol. The guys couldn't understand it. Now that I hear her voice gain, she reminds me of Phyllis Hyman...only better.

  • @grifitti Now that you mention it, she does remind me of P Hyman. Thiough I wouldn't say better. One is not better than the other. They are both talented singers. One may appeal to you more. Or you might be in the mood for one singer now and another later. Who's better is a matter of which one sings well and which doesn't.

    No disrepect intended.

  • @bassistdc you are Mos Definitely right !

  • You never hear this song on the radio anymore. It's one of the groups best!

  • And then she went soaring off into the stratosphere at the end and my soul left my body and followed her. I don't think I ever came back. Jessica remains matchless four decades later, in my opinion

  • @KKoje I agree.

  • @KKoje I agree with you to the Max.....at the end o this song, what she does with her voice is just majestic.....off the scale.

  • Jessica Cleaves nearly took me out of body at the end of this song when she goes soaring into the stratosphere with that incredible voice.

  • @mysticalcaress glad to see you realize that JCleaves is up octave. She sang with several groups before singing with Earth Wind & Fire. Last I read in trying to find info on her and what or who she may be singing with and all I could gather was she is not doing so well at this time in her life. Hoping that this is not the case.....one of my favs for female vocalist.

  • OH how much I wish I had somebody with a love for me like that. It is deep.

  • "Last Days and Time" is my favorite album of all time!! Thanks for the upload!!

  • i love this song, i just remembered the words and googled them and found it!! who is the female vocal?

  • @RiveGauche1999 the female singer is jessica cleaves

  • @mardon1108 Thanx!

  • my uncle said that's Leslyn Bailey singing

  • @CrystalPerfection thanks i just posed this question.

  • @nubonyx. did Jean Carne sing on this also?

  • I thought it was Florence La Rue singing the vocals on this song from the Fifth Dimension

  • The most beautiful song I have ever heard.

  • I love how they go into a samba around 3:30

  • Fantastic vocals with magnificient range.

  • One of my favorites by the elements and it showcases the talents of composer Skip Scarborough who later wrote some very large hits for E,W &F. I have to let you know that the lyric is incorrect on line #5, should be:" Scheming on wealth isn't my thing" . Thanx for the post.

  • I spelled that wrong, it's Hyman.

  • She sounds like Phyllis Hymen.

  • I have this CD. This song makes me cry. Absolutely beautiful. Thx for letting others enjoy EWF's immense talent!!!!

  • I can tell that Jessica Cleaves was trained in opera by her range.

  • Jessica Cleaves and Sherry Scott, both sang with EWF, are still getting it in. Voices like theirs will never be forgotten.

  • lovely and soulful. thanks for posting.

  • The end of this song is climatic !!

  • this song really moves my soul and spirit!

  • Yes indeed girl!

  • this song moves my soul

  • This is Just the best stuff in music HISTORY!

  • KILLER vocal stylings....i wish JC was still recording...she's a breath of fresh air in an,otherwise, dismal abyss of today's vocal warbling, oversinging, stilettos, wigs and next to no-clothes in an attempt to distract you from the sad truth.

    I'd rather have JC...

  • NOW she's a singer. I couldn't have articulated it better myself - that warbling ha ha- and oversinging if that's what it is- bores me to death. Overproduction and commercialization. I could listen to Jessica all day. She is a TRAINED vocalist.

  • I'd rather you Jessica. You are so missed Kid...Ooooo that voice..!

  • Very nice song

  • Jessica Cleaves hitting the high notes with her fabulous range to close it out. This cut is one of my all-time faves!

  • this song is very strong and uplifting ,....ASHEyBLACQ you are the truth..and soonkid, you also speak the truth...philly dude here and the "plateau".......aint like it use to be..

  • My mother played this album till the needle wore out when I was a child. I loved this song and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone". I think the 70's (and some of the very early 80's) had the absolute best and most timeless music. My children will never feel like this until the New System.

  • The Last Days in Time album from '72, i have to go back and give this one another spin

  • my wife and i bought a house in georgia. she transfered and i stayed behind in philly with my job. we had been apart 4 like 4 months and decided to drive 13 hours to surprise her. I put this on and you send me by roy ayers and made it in 10 hours. nothing made today can inspire like old music. Chills!

  • the plat aint like it used to be. Nothing these young knuckleheads can do can take it back to the 70's and 80's. Jean Carne "dont let it go to your head" Roy Ayers "running away" Wdas was the only station that would bang them songs on sat and sun. afternoon. these will never be the good ole days for our kids! sad...

  • I xtra agree and I am from this "current" generation. I was looking at some Cameo stuff from 1980, now Wayne Cooper is a singer. I mean all these new kats, Day 26, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown are good, but they cannot touch true R&B and Soul.

  • damn G.....WDAS...Philly...I hear you...check out playlist

    Appletinis and Eve...nuff said

  • This song was a tremendous soft hit. You can can hear the youthfulness in the EWF sound.

As much as I love Jessica Cleeves and Ronnie Laws, i think the group actually matured quicker without them.

  • love112489, you know what's so special about this whole experience?? I know no one personally who has an affinity for this particular song, yet here online I'm connected to many who share a passion for this beautiful song! I find that nothing short of AMAZING!! You do an incredible service with posting these gems. I didn't expect to find this song here, because who really cared?!! It just goes to show we all have so much in common. Luv what you're doing!!

  • Jessica does a job on this song, but if you really want to get a good example of her range, check out "People" on the Friends of Distinction album, "Friends and People".

  • sing it jessica cleaves !!!!!

  • So I am a youngin', but this song is so serious to my existence... I mean EWF is the one band who's love songs, really make me believe in love...

  • ...And i'm an old head...thumbs up to you for your musical consciousness and the meaning...(younguns get it too !) :-)

  • One of the all time best songs in the whole world !!

  • Jessica Cleaves rocked this song. One of my all time favorite EWF tunes.

  • Freshmen year, Oklahoma University, first serious love. She will always be with me. Ms. Vicki, you know who I am.

  • Ah!!!! Thanks for posting! I have always planned this as the song I plan on singing to my husband at my wedding. A wonderful gem!

  • great song thanks for the posting .. bring back great memories.. no music like this today ... i like ewf alot better in this era, not about commericialism just great music, arrangements, vocals..

  • I am sooooo old

  • Even though I love EWF regardless, I would have loved to hear more like this one - it's an ALL TIME FAVE!!!! But then again, I can always listen to the Friends of Distinction. Thank you Jessica!

  • Having the female lead allowed Philip Bailey to extend the range of the background harmony. With or without her these brothers could still sang

  • summers in philly with the left hand ducthy and the slight brezze of fairmount park on the strawberry mansion side god i miss those days

  • God, what happened to strawberry mansion?

  • i think we kind of let the young guys take over with out teaching them how to respect the place janaymont

  • This album Last Days and Times came out in 1972, and this was Philip Bailey's debut with EWF.

  • This was Larry Dunn's debut with EWF too... Ronnie Laws and Beloyd Taylor Dipped after this one, replaced with Andrew Woolfolk and Al McKay... 80's baby, but I am stuck in the 70's too.

  • Before answering my question: PLEASE check a few documents (like album credits / band listings, etc...). Bless your heart for trying to be up on this. But, come on now. Beloyd Taylor in EWF during the early 70's???

  • My bad, I meant to say Roland Bautista. Small mistake amigo, it happens, Beloyd Taylor was with EWF, just got the album mixed up, I mean damn, that is how serious this song was on my life when I left the comment.

  • Comment removed

  • Ilove this song.

  • I really miss the musicial vibes from the 70s.

  • It would be good if EWF and Jessica Cleasves

did a reunion. It would be an emotional one.

  • @morefactlessfiction7 I guess so she missed out on the glory years.

  • In my opinion, this is still one of the best songs by EWF and probably one of the best songs of any group from the late 60s era. I bought the album when it first came out, almost 40 years ago, and still have it and play this song periodically. Yes I still have a turntable that works.Every time I play this song, it brings tears to my eyes just because its so beautiful. Jessicas voice, the lyrics, the arrangement. It all works to make this song a classic.

  • Where's Jessica Cleaves today? She was simply extrodinare! I love the way she sings this song, and that's how I feel about the love in my life.

  • Does anyone know what Jessica Cleaves is doing now days. Hard to find anything on her. She should have went solo with that remarkable voice she has. She shoud have done more lead voice with EWF.

  • Does anybody know what Jessica Cleaves is doing these days? It is really hard to find anything on her. She should have gone solo on her own. She really does have a beautiful voice.

  • I remember back at Douglass High School in the basement of the music department and a young girl name Tammy sang this song. She was the one who first Introduce me to EW&F. This is music at it simple element. Beautiful. Just simply beautiful.

  • Wow, i sang thsi at Douglass at the homecoming contest and won! I remeber Tammy too

  • I use to sing with chocolate rain and we sang this. They introduced me to EWF

  • Yes, I remember you. You were Miss Douglass High class"74". I was the class of "76". You

    do know me.

  • im 13 and i know almost every song by earth wind and fire. I love music from the 70s and 80s. EWF is my favorite though =]

  • what is that song by "Earth, Wind, and Fire" called? i can't really remember the lyrics, lool, please help I LOVE THEM! (:

  • The horns on this are incredible plus post production work added strings in the background..

  • this cut keeps me young. I remember this from my days as a DJ on AM radio back in the early 1970's. Jessica Cleaves singing the lead?..listen to the harmony as EWF begins to find their way in the music world..glad this song is posted so can trip back down memory lane.

  • I was just entering teen-age when this song was out. It brings back precious memories of first loves.Kids today don't have a clue..I feel blessed to be growing into manhood during this time..thanks for this post...God Bless you too..''cause in those days..love was REAL!!!

  • this is total ewf

  • I also have their box collection "EWF" this song is not on their box collection

  • thanks for posting. been looking for this song for a while

  • This is just a great song!!!!!!!!

  • greatest song of all time, by anyone ... period ...

  • That is tall praise.

    It certainly is a masterpiece.

  • .. this is Phillip Bailey's first album with EW&F ... he's on this song ...

  • Even though I am only 37 yrs young, I am can appriciate some EW&F music. This is one of my favorite pre-Phillip Bailey songs.

  • This was Philip's debut with the group in 1972.

  • I agree that the BEST EWF music came out of their first incarnation-I saw them on post at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1970 they were as good then as in any latter performance. The dancing in the audience was prevelant even then. And anybody who was at the concert in Mckeesport, Pa. back in 1970 or '71 please Holla back!! What a show in a small venue!

  • "Last Days and Time" is not easy to find and to appreciate it is even more difficult! Thank you so much for bringing back so many memories for me!

  • i am a ewf fan & never heard this song...it is beautiful. thank u for sharing.

  • "... the warmth of the sun would soon grow cold, if I didn't have you ..." that's powerful...that's love. I too shed a tear whenever I hear this song. Not many can sing or write lyrics like this.

    Payne

  • I wish Maurice could have found more material for Jessica to sing. She has great intonation and range. Skip Scarborough definitely could write featuring her voice. What happened? Who really knows.

  • This is my favorite EWF song of all time...and you know that had alot of great ones...the greatest bad ever

  • One of the best love songs ever! Melodic and beautiful! Jessica Cleaves only song with EWF as featured soloist.

  • ... the last 1:30 of this song is pure heaven ... i shed tears almost everytime i hear it ...

  • yes....lol

  • Classic Earth,Wind, and Fire from 1970 to 1976 after that they turn commercial,I guess you have to make money, but their music was so beautiful thru those years,You Jessica Cleave fans know she started with the Freinds of Distinction what a beautiful voice

  • commercial? fuck you man. you jerk.

  • what was that about,I said their music after 1976 was commercial,it true.and by the way fuck you too.the best of EWF was from 1970 to 1976,anyone who is a real EWF know I'm telling the truth.

  • I can agree to that. EWF's early stuff prior to the Spirit Album was their best. AS the disco period took over, alot of the funk bands either strayed away and did ballads or went disco. EWF's Philip Bailey admitted that they didn't want to go that route but that was pushed by the record companies. Facts are facts and you can't argue especially if one of the band members mentions this

  • Thank you, thank you love112489 for this post...I have a worn out LP version of this...Jessica Cleaves was an amazing talent. Fantastic dusty gruuve you chose! God bless...;)

  • lol ur welcome :)

  • Id love it if you posted a couple more of my favorite songs from this great ewf album, "Last days and time" Mom, and Zanzibar"

  • i just posted mom it needs a lil time 2 process... and im working on Zanzibar :)

  • Thank you my angel!!

  • Hey Love112489 you'll find Zanzibar on the E.W.F. album KEEP YOUR HEAD TO THE SKY.

  • this is such a great song, it has a "positive vibe" feel to it that songs in the early 70's had, it feels like a fifth dimension song ,that Carpenters "Close to you" piano intro style, and with those vocal harmonies, BaBaBaBaBaBaBoww!! great!!!

  • ....it does (babababababoww):) lol

  • Jessica sang with them for the first 2 or 3 albums they did. She toured with them and believe me, her and Phillip Bailey would do some incredible duets. She got pregnant and left the group and they never had a female in the group until they hooked up with the 3 women in that other group.

  • Jess replaced original female vocalist Sherry Scott after the release of the group's second album (The Need Of Love). She left the group before the recording of Open Our Eyes.

  • Jessica Cleeves made this song. It's one of their best. On the original album was their best.

  • You're the best!!!!!!

Thanks, you have a new subscriber.

  • lol!! anytime :)

  • Jessica Cleaves

  • if you tell me the female that song with them. thank you lol.

  • jessica cleeves :)
