Yesterday,I saw her at Gala. She danced two pas de deux-Grand Pas Classique & Don Quixote, parter was Victor Lebedev. She make big progres. She is now much better, than in this video. She is now really ballerina.
Sometimes it seems as if she is concentrating on the steps, rather than the dancing, if you see what I mean. She doesn't really do anything for me; she isn't a bad dancer, but I certainly wouldn't describe her as "one of the most dazzling ballerinas in the world". Leave that honour for the Obraztsovas, Osipovas, and Kondaurovas of this world!
her technique is great :) she needs to work on her arms and her head. in corsaire, all of the pirates describe her as being the most beautiful, so she work on being more "lady like" i don't know how to explain it over the internet though. she needs to be softer. great fouettes though :)
I can deal with her arms and her short neck because your body changes depending on what rep and choreography you are doing, a lot of contemporary choreography is physically demanding in a different way than classical so you develop muscles in another way. She is in no way over weight, she is still very skinny but her partner is a twig!
what i cannot stand is that her leg line is cut off because of the color of her ribbons and her ugly gaynor mindens!!!! aaaahh
The girl is beautiful , this partnership doesn't work for her - no connection whatsoever. I hope she finds a partner that makes her shine. And please people , get real , what's with all the compliments to the boy ?! He has nothing compared to Ruzimatov ! There is no energy , no passion , nothing.
Both are amazing... I love her turns and his elevation... She reminds me a little of M. Kulik who I still admire with my heart... and by the way I know how demanding companies are on the body and weight issue but I love the fact that she is not thaaaat skinny.
Her weight problem in discussion, I think I have to say some.
She looked leaner in the winter, so we have to see how she will look when the season begins.
But she is essentially mascular that which can give her stronger core muscle and incredible fuettes. And I love to have all the body type of balerinas.
I think with her Greek Statue like physics she could make a fabulous Dinana!
@ondinedancer I don't think her neck is stiff per se, it looks that way because she doesn't have a long neck. Nadezhda Gracheva, whom I love, also isn't blessed with a long neck and sometimes she too gives the impression of stiff neck.
@sangfroidjen, I guess the lenght is part of the efect but tamara rojo does not have a loooong neck and she does not look like that. Maybe it is just me and my obsession with alexander technique and how the neck is always free and the back irradiating outwards. Dont take me wrong I think she is great but I'm obssesed with necks hahahah!
Because Oksana's muscularity seems to be the topic of the day I must wrtie something about too. Maybe she's a bit too muscular, upper body mainly, but I think this costume with floppy and a bit too small skirt is very unflattering and it's the main reason why she doesn't make such good impression as she could.
@Pearlaceous The first variation by Medotra has almost infinite variations used in other ballets. I think that 3 ballerinas danced this variation in Corsaire and at least 4 different variations were used by other ballerinas in this competition dancing this pas de deux.
@russianballetvideo OK - clearly I have watched my Asylmuratova/Neff/Ruzimatov Corsaire too many times and now can only associate Asylmuratova's variation with Medora! :-)
Sometimes also Medora variation has music of Queen of Dryads variation, look at Alla Sizova who dances Queen of Dryads choreography as Corsaire variation, or Margot Fonetyn who dances to the same music but choreography is different. I have CD "Ballet pas de deux" and there's Corsaire pas de deux with music of Queen of Dryads variation. You can ask mrlopez2681, I asked him some times about variations etc. and he always helped me.
@Pearlaceous To get the perfect answer, you would have to ask Yuri Burlaka. It is interesting that Oksana dances for the Mikhailovsky which uses the same variation as the Mariinsky in this pas de deux, but she chose a different version for her variation.
This girl is built like a mack truck, with her broad shoulders and wide rib cage. I'm not saying she's fat but it looks like she's also naturally very muscular, especially in her arms and upper thighs...all the wrong places to be muscular for a ballerina IMO.

@sangfroidjen Ouch! I hope she isn't reading this and completely distraught. I have to agree. Technically she is excellent, and I'm the first to say that, in general, the trend is for ballerinas to be scarily thin/anorexic looking. However, losing a few pounds would certainly help her aesthetically.
@Pearlaceous Also, I must add, to Alex, that it is difficult. We try to be diplomatic, but ballet is a visual art and if you are "out there" on the stage in a competition or striving to be principal in a top company then you *are* going to be judged on appearance. I hadn't realized so many dancers looked at ballet on YouTube until Petyarus took down one of my comments that was uncomplimentary and since then I try to be tactful, and there is always something positive to be said.
@Pearlaceous My 1st reaction upon seeing her...such a throwback to zaftig ballerinas of the past. Dropping a few pounds would give her a sleeker look, though it won't change her body type/ muscular build. So it becomes an issue of ADs and audiences embracing big girls along with delicate waifs. But ballet is partly an aesthetic art so dancers expect to be judged on such criterion as physical beauty. They are probably harder on themselves than others are on them.
@sangfroidjen Yes - it's tough for them. But then, they are in the lucky position anyway of having the physical ability/talent/training to have got that far. How many millions of kids would love to be them and would do *any*thing to get there?
SHE IS REALLY EXCEPTIONALLY GIFTED FOR TURNING AND BALANCE,BUT PHISICALLY FIND HER A LITTLE HEAVY ,BUT I LOVE DANCER WITH MEZENTSEVA KIND OF BODY,AND HERE WE ARE FAR,BUT IS QUESTION OF TASTE,ANYWAY REALLY GREAT TURNER.FROM WERE IS THIS GIFTED ALSO GUY ,KAZAKSTAN?
@pediatrapaola I agree with you that she is a little heavy. I actually love feminine looking dancers, i.e., with curves, like Stepanova, but she looks muscular rather than feminine. Having said that, she's very cute and certainly strong technically (although I thought her fouettes were better than her pirouettes.)
Gosh - how like Ruzimatov this boy is, especially from a distance. Zakan has a wonderfully sinuous and elegant physique (exactly the type I prefer for Ali) and he has outstanding technique. I love his easy catlike jumps ,his line and his stage presence. He's very good!
@Pearlaceous PROBABLY RUZIMATOV IS OF THE SAME IDEA IF YOU GO ON GOOGLE YOU WILL SEE HE INVITED THIS 20 YEARS KAZAK BOY TO PERFORM ALI IN HIS STAGING OF CORSAIRE AT MIKHAILOVSKY BALLET OF ST PETERSBURG ACTUALY LED BY FARUK
@pediatrapaola Lol! Nothing like a little mini-me to enhance the ego! :-) Seriously, I love this boy's build and elegance and Ruzimatov was *the* ultimate Ali. What a great compliment and will be a great performance!
@Bnesque anyway this boy looks good and has phisique and tecnique ,is already first solist at mikhailovsky and if you watch on google is having great succes there is a picture of him partnering masha alexandrova in some gala in don q
@Bnesque l know but somebody have to do also the dirty job,but joke apart the guy is a good potential infact ruzimatov chose him for his corsaire as already told.
Ahh, what a lovely womanly looking dancer! Glad to see some of those are still around. :) She reminds me a little of that marvellous dancer Yelena Martinson, that I only got to know because of ketinoa's wonderful videos, for which I'm very grateful!
@Lidewijke Thank you so much for this comment. Oksana is so much like Elena with similar appearance and both have the same exceptional personality traits, full of life and happiness.
Yes, thank you for this comment! When I was watching Oksana I had impression that I've seen her already some time ago. Now I know why. How I miss Martinson Mystery Paquita video! I think that I would appreciate it more because I'm more in love in those great old days of Kirov/Mariinsky.
@Pearlaceous You were not the initial trouble maker to this unjustified attack. I saw her with shorts and a tee shirt and in class and these comments are not justified. I last saw her in June and she did put on a little weight during the summer break. If you look at her videos that i posted on February 3 and 4, 2010, she was skinny back then. If you cannot find them, contact me. I will check now what comments, if any, you amde on those 4 videos in Febrauary.
@russianballetvideo SORRY MAY BE WE WERE LITTLE BAD BUT WAS FOR JOKE,SERIOUSLY FOR MY PERSONAL TEST SHE IS NOT PHISICALLY VERY IDEAL,BUT MY DREAM DANCER IS DIVINE MEZENTSEVA SO....BUT SHE IS TECNICALLY REALLY GIFTED.BUT TOO FAR FOR FANTASTIC DELIQUIESCENT GALINA.
@Pearlaceous In the 4 videos, you made one comment about scenery and this comment of her - Whoah! They are wonderful! Is she an ex Vaganova student, btw? Love the smile and wave to you at the end, too!
@Pearlaceous personally (and I am a ballet dancer) I think the fact that she isn't super super skinny is great. she has thighs and arms and I still appreciate her beautiful dancing.
