I searched the internet, I busted out my guitar, and believe me my stretch is 5+ frets and I can tell you that unless she can unhinge her hand like a snake does its jaw, or changes the tuning of the D string, that such a thing is THOROUGHLY impossible. Who makes this shit up? I mean seriously. Even if such a thing were possible (and it's not) it would be utterly unhealthy to even try, and even more stupid to accomplish. No one EVER needs to play 6 different stringed e notes.5 is easy, 6 impossible.
Ida was actually a 'shredder' back in the 40s and 50s. She took lessons from Segovia, who told her after only a few sessions, 'I have nothing to teach her. She has all that she requires, at 14.'
She was amazingly fast and fluid, and could actually play 6 SIX E notes on the guitar simultaneously.
To me, the way she controls the bass line in this piece, firm but not overpowering the melody or the harmonies in the center... is transcendent.

His royal highness, King Hyperbole,
strikes again! *laugh*
Now riddle me this, your lordship: Who was musically superior -- Ida Presti or the "best rhythm section of all time," Andy Parker & Pete Way? Oooh ... you're gonna have to think about that one, aren't ya? Decisions, decisions .... *laugh*
I can´t thank you enough for uploading this fantastic music. Do you have any more Ida Presti recordings? Doesn´t seem to be so many around in the shops. In fact I haven´t found any so far. Thanks again for posting.

Please don't cover this woman, a legend, with falsehoods and fickle fallacies.

Thank you rsagala...was she the best? Who is greater?

in my opinion, no one.... regardless of genre.

@Vstrat0
There is no way she could play six, five easily, but not six.

@Guitarist0001 you don't have to take my word for it; buy her biography; search the internet; have fun stretching your hand, because it's true!

Wow such expression and sensitivity.
And the balance is incredible. The melody just soars above the accompaniment. . . .That takes control of the highest order.

she makes me see why I chose to play the guitar in the first place. When played like this, no other instrument can touch it

she is great but do you happen to know who made her guitar.
jargenlink 3 years ago
Hi jargenlink,
The Delcamp website states that Presti played a Robert Bouchet guitar and also a Julian Gomez Ramirez guitar.
