  • I love The sound of music

    I loved this too

  • Just amazing!

  • I love the innocence these old musicals have! Not theres anything wrong with them. Its just that when you compare it to something like a modern musical, this one jut stands out as being so innocent and happy, anyone of any age can watch it and enjoy it! :D

  • It's a dress. It is a couch. It is an Imperial Protection Device. I want it.

  • well since all people are commenting about are "whore" outfits, I'm going to actually going to comment on this brilliant music!

  • I've seen a ton of Deborah Kerr movies. Black Narcissus and From Here to Eternity to name a few. Still, this is my favourite role she played.

  • this is REAL music! wish there was a time traveling machine so i could go back in time and experience all of the old time musicals :)

  • Siam=Thailand. It's been changed since then.

  • Ahh Marni Nixon's voice is just AMAZING!! She sings so beautifully in this film as Anna

  • Wait... I was thinking of the animated version... My bad. ^^;

  • I don't care how bad the critics hated this movie, I grew up with it and this song!

  • 3 people never got to know her...

  • I fantasized about having a hoopskirt when I was 4,10 years later...still fantasizing! sigh...

  • That is a proper dress. Fucking mini-skirts and boob tubes. seriously that shit is comercial and accepted whore outfits, without it actually being labelled as a whore outit.

  • @SirJNicolas There's always a middle ground I don't think they should dress like whores either, but forcing them to where constricting corset and giant hoops is too extreme.

  • @puglit1 Oh of course i think so too. But the whore's outfit shouldn't pre-teenage girls. It's just wrong. But same as forcing women to wear dresses like that is also absurd, humans have moved on from that and now accept the revealing of skin. But too much skin is going too far, especially on very young girls.

  • @SirJNicolas Agreed.

  • @puglit1 its only a film.

  • @lightflower what is your point ?

  • @SirJNicolas Oh please. Take your misogyny and shove it. Women have the right to dress however they wish, who are you to judge? I, for one, am sick and tired of men lackadaisically dressing like they have no worries in the world; I guess I too prefer those times when men actually put effort into their looks. Truthfully, I don't like it when they wake up and just dare to go out in their pajamas.

  • @setwithacapitalj And you think i'm happy with how men dress up these days as well? Where looking good is basically being naked? I used the girls as an example because they are the ones who are affected by it the most. Media and peers lead girls to looking like a cheap whore. Men are just as bad because majority accept and like it rather than stop it.

  • @SirJNicolas Women usually dress for themselves not to please men. Honestly, I don't think anyone who uses the word "whore" should be listened to. You are a disgusting human being.

  • @setwithacapitalj Then why would you reply to one of my comments? Why take the time to voice your opinion against mine? The original comment was based of my observation and opinion. I'm sorry that my opinion doesn't suit your perfect life. Next time you see an opinion based comment, why not step down from your perfect world and try to see it from their perspective. Good day to you keyboard warrior.

  • I love this song

  • I just saw the play I loved it this song is my fav

  • My proctologist has this song playing in his office during an exam.

  • @flenif2247 HaHaHA Sounds like he should be paying you ..

  • great music link for google + not managed to do it on facebook

  • this show and My Fair Lady definitely my favorites. Wizard of Oz comes in at a very close third

  • If you have kids who think 'High School Musical'..is..show them this. Plus the others mentioned here. This will be the best thing for them to ever experience.

  • HEHE, SKIRT :))

  • this and meet me in st louis are my all time favourites :)

  • beautiful music and lyrics, perfectly sung by Marni Nixon

  • i remembered watching this when i was a young kid ._.

  • This brings wonderful memories -- I saw the play in Toronto in the 1980s with my parents and adored it.... Wouldn't she be great to have as a teacher:-)

  • WONDERFUL!

  • この曲が大好きです。

    高校生のころから、ずっとずっと大好きです。from japan

  • Asian sound of music

  • kind of its a great part to play and as performer to performer theres no big and small pert in any production each one is equally important. knock em dead and lady thiang has an awesome song in the musical so rock on and own it

  • now THAT is a dress! WOWZA

  • my god, these kids kill me looool

  • lol this reminds me of spaced:}

  • What memories those kids must have.

  • its cool and the kids are just so CUTE!!!!

  • its cool

  • is it just me or is her dress amazing?

  • @lottilexi1501 no her dress is AMAZINGG!!!!!!

  • Really love this song....reminds me of my childhood days.....(though I am still young.....I am only 19.....)

  • LMFAO these little kids kill me ;)

  • getting to mew my new babysitting clients, they will LOVE hearing this song today

  • @EbonyWestwoodMusic Yes. Lady Thiang is the King's main wife, and if your production does the full play, she has a song 'Something Wonderful' and 'Western People Funny' in the original score. :)

  • They don't make them any better than this movie!

  • Im 21 and I absolutely love this!

  • I was waiting for someone to get hit by her dress lol! that must have been a pain to wear

  • brilliant! saw this when i was 6yrs old, 54yrs ago, still love it!

  • The King and I <3

  • well why wouldn't my lecturers presentation on higher education take me here?

  • @SeanWillDerrick hey im taking higher education just looked at the presentation nd eneded up here. so appropriate right.

  • what are those things on top of the children's heads' called? i know its some kind of bun holder but whats its formal name?

  • This song is just simply lovely and pure and innocent. Fab x Love a showtune me.

  • I can't even remember how many times they played this at my school

  • childhood memories.

  • No matter how many remakes or variations, the 1956 "King & I" film is incomparable. Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner brought their characters to life, and their liveliness makes me smile everytime my mother puts this masterpiece on tv. Long live classical musicals! <3

  • This song makes every two-random-people-just-chat-and-eventually-fall-in-love-montage-scene 10times more...well....bearable.

  • hahaha love how they "copied" her dress. great song :) great scene

  • does anyone know what key this is in?

  • In the 50th, when beauty contests were in great demand than ever, misses from the whole world used to sing "Getteing to know you" at the Miss Universe Contest in Long Beach. Rockybrazil1

  • I randomly sand this at the beginning of my first day at my school it was funny as I've never watched this or anything.

  • I saw this on the big screen in 1956 when I was in the 3rd grade. I have the soundtrack album on Capitol records.

  • @wb5oxq That's the same year Old Yeller was written -- 1956. And brown people eat dogs.

  • @redfordforpresident Eating dogs turns people brown, just like eating monkeys and gorillas turns people black.

  • I remember growing up in the 60's and hearing my friends Mom singing this song along with the radio (66 WNBC) from the kitchen while we played ball out back on Fermery Drive in New Milford NJ.

  • 2 people who disliked this dont have a soul.

  • Deborah Kerr, what do you really want to say that you instead have to put it "nicely"?

"Damn it, do I love getting to know people! I feel fucking awesome!"

  • @Casualeio "Wilbur's not nice" -- a line from Charlotte's Web. If you spell like backwards, it means kill. Like the Mickey Mouse Alma Mater song -- "Y? Because we like you". This film was released at the beginning of the Vietnam War -- they eat dogs, don't they? Walt Disney named Mickey Mouse's dog Pluto, after the dwarf planet.

  • I was the king when i performed this in my schooll.. around 3 years ago.. im hearing this song after 2 years.. im feeling so nostalgic.. all the preperations for the drama.. all the hard work.. this reminds me of that.. this really made me cry.

  • I love this song it makes me want to dance.

  • Where can I watch the whole movie for free?

  • marni nixon actually sounded like deborah kerr. there voices were similar.

  • If someone else did the singing then they must have a very similar sounding voice because the speaking and singing voice sound the same.

  • Who would like to summarize this musical for me? :3

  • that's so pretty :)

  • She has such a beautiful voice. This is what real entertainment looks like.

  • I keep waiting for her to knock over one of the kids with that dress...

  • This is indeed one of my favorite songs of this musical masterpiece.

  • Ooooey! Dek lek lek nalak mak ka! :3 I love things to do with Thailand's history... Even though this is a musical based around an Englishwoman but you know :'3

  • Will 20th Fox put out a Blu Ray version of this great movie? The DVD I got from Best Buy is still a Standard Definition version. Souund of Music is already on Blu Ray !!!

  • Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ, I could listen to this lady sing all day.

  • is it just me or does that sound like julie andrews singing?

  • @ccgal15888 i guess it does a little. but julie sang this song, if you are interested, it's here on youtube and i totally recommend it! ;)

  • @ccgal15888

The singing in the movie is done by Marni Nixon, according to the note I got from i-Tune when I bought it from Apples. However, one of my friend has a CD of the King and I sung by Julie Andrews. So apparently Julie Andrews had also done a Broadway show of King and I with Yul Brynner at one time.

Make no mistake please, because I hope the royalties go to the right artist !!!

AND yes, I think we should partition 20th Century fox to put out a Blu Ray version.

  • that was just adorable. Just too adorable. I miss this movie...X3

  • Someone commented that this was the time of the golden age of musicals. How true ! The King & I , The Sound Of Music, Oliver Twist, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dr Doolittle, etc....To the film industry, thank you for the music and the musicals.

  • @opsvideo2008 Dr. Doolittle was a musical!?

  • @Blueknightex Yes, I am referring to the movie musical entitled "Dr Doolittle " which was produced in 1967, and starred Rex Harrison in the leading role. One of it's songs "Talk To The Animals" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 40th Academy Awards. Type "Dr Doolittle 1967 Talk To The Animals" on YT searchbox to see the video clip of this song. No doubt Eddie Murphy did an admirable version of Doolittle but nothing can beat the original musical film.

  • @opsvideo2008 well thanks for explaining that me. Never knew that they would eventually make a 'comic' version of a musical based film lol

  • @opsvideo2008

I love all musicals that were made into films around this time! They're just so wonderful!

  • One of the most melodious and beautiful songs I have ever heard. The world is greatly indebted to Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for making this world a very beautiful place with their wonderful and memorable songs.

  • In the film Deborah Kerr was dubbed by Marni Nixon for all songs

  • omg i'm 17 and and i remember seeing this show when i was like 5 or i know it's been out looong b4 that but i really loved it then and i still love now

  • At first I didnt' get why they were around him twirling then I was like, "Oh, a skirt!"

And 1 person isn't a cup of tea

  • i love this song

  • Online Asian women for daing oneman4u.info

  • I want the clothes from this movie! I loved it all as a kid, and I still do now!

  • Hey don't glee bash (yes I am a gleek but still), they are bringing young people to this music and I think that is good, especially for aspiring singers/actors, who need to know this kind of history :) so plz b nice :) Oh and I agree with singing in the rain :)

  • we're doing this play for school!! i got the part of tuptim!! lets break a leg!

  • love it

  • I love this song more than "Do Re Mi" from 'Sound of Music'! :D

  • Im singing this as a duet in the derry feis :D im pure excited but nervous i hope I do the song justice :D

  • I grew up with this musical =]

  • Not gonna lie, a little piece of me died when i found out that Deborah Kerr didn't actually sing in this.

Marni Nixon has a beautiful voice regardless.

This movie holds a special place in my heart, because when I was little, our local theater put on this production, and my mom was the lead role... her first play ever!! She even sang, too.

  • Oh it is such a happy and cute song!!! I love it!

  • <3 this song!

  • i watched this movie! In the 4th grade.

  • Thanks fo the hq quality...

  • im in a play in march of this and im a royal child

  • Julia sings this in school everyday...bless her little bones. She is preciously my cup of tea, with her perfect little voice. Then Julia ends the school day by singing, 'Kumbaya".....no more war's please........Freyja xxx

  • Beautiful! Nothing like the old times......

  • I danced to this song when I was 4 :)

  • Its 45 years' s Songs, Musical really is something, whether it old or new, it still fresh

  • Superb.... this was the age of the golden musicals,, unfortunately as there is no blantant sex, no fithly language, and little violence, in todays world it probably would not go down very well...... anyway why watch old these old musicals if you dont like them???.

  • @Anthonysykes1944 psh. yeah cause my gen (I'm 20) didn't spend their childhood years singing all the songs from "Anastasia" (a 90's cartoon- I was born '90) and "The sound of music" (Iono even wanna guess how much older that is than me)

  • Superb.... this was the age of the golden musicals,, unfortunately as there is no blantant sex, no fithly language, and little violence, in todays world it probably would not go down very well...... anyway why watch old these old musicals if you dont like them???

  • X3 did anyone noticed out her dress nearly knocked the kids out lol... poor kiddies... but this is my all time fave musical none to me anyway can beat it... i love it so much... i like the movie with Jodie Foster but this... is far better to me as i was a kid when i frist saw it and used to dance to the songs... mom watched it with me so it means alot to me... thank you for posting this up

  • THIS SONG IS TOO CUTE. I usually don't like roger and hammerstein musicals (a matter of preference. I'm not a hater), but this song and this play in general is just too cute to pass off! I'm going to sing this song to my future children. Any mother or mother-to-be would understand why!

  • Sawasdee kahb

  • i think i just died of a cuteness overdose...

  • I miss these songs...

  • Auditioning for my local show tonight! This is the audition song :)

  • getting to know you is my honour !

  • I know some teachers who would quite beg to differ!

  • this isn't Julie Andrews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ERG WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING ITS HER BECAUSE ITS NOT!!!!

  • @mickyd5o It's her voice.

  • @izzieluv No it isn't - it is Marni Nixon's voice... it doesn't remotely sound like Julie Andrews.

  • @ThePrettyPoetess There is a version of this song with Julie Andrews singing, which is why some people think this is her.

  • @Sandhand02 Julie Andrews is the one singing in the movie indeed! I recognized her at once.. I do not think the actress is singing

  • @AlexosAndros what? sorry but you are completely wrong. Its Marni Nixon who sang here. She dubbed over her singing voice. Julie Andrews has never participated in a King And I movie before.

  • @Blueknightex You are right, I have verified the information and then my ears were wrong. thanx

  • @mickyd5o Please direct yourself to Barney's website and the song "Imagination", a spinoff of John Lennon's song "Imagine".

  • @mickyd5o

How a person can't tell the difference between Julie Andrews and Debra Kerr is beyond me. But I suppose having grown up in a house with musicals being played so much, it's easier for me to make that distinction.

  • my school is doing this school play and this song is our audition song :D

  • @caseyjonesleonard Good luck!

  • @littlesongbird1 thanks!! :D

  • @caseyjonesleonard Do it in Montessori language. Cooperate, don't compete. And that's not communism. It's just good manners.

  • i love her huge dress! this song is so cute

  • I sang this when I was about 12 at Pinecrest Van Nuys Spring Sing in 1966 or so. I was very nervous, but it was fun! I wish someone had a video of it!

  • I am a teacher in France and have many vids up of the actual lessons. CUTECATFAITH and SLOBOMOTION and on Dailymotion I am "LisaFalour." The students and trainees boost me. I really do learn from them.

  • Julie Andrews is an entertainment legend!

  • @WeirdsAGoodThing lol really? really?

  • @WeirdsAGoodThing I agree, but the video shows Deborah Kerr with the song dubbed by Marni Nixon.

  • So great to hear the song & movie.

    Thanks !

  • A good movie a little lengthly but still a great one!

  • mmmmm...ty

  • @rubyrose456 - ....daaayyy...byyy...daaayyy :)
