I take that to mean that if you or a developer wanted, they could write a new phone dialer or text messaging program and use that instead of the standard one.

That's a bit theoretical though, as I'm just a short way off getting my first android phone. All being well I'll have a HTC Desire in the next week or so. I'll know more then. All the best.
