an excellent video I liked seeing the footage from 1998 . Nice speed witht the knife and stick. I would love to see a video on the origin of the art of FMS . Nice to see Grandmaster De Alba joking around with the group. Thumbs up. Nelson you have great skill brother.
So the main roots of Modern Farang Mu Sul are in the Korean arts of Hwarang Do, Hapkido, Kuk Sool, Do Hap Sool, Sun Moo Do and Tae Kwon Do. That is just a fact. But it is also true that we have numerous influences in other arts, starting with Boxing and streetfighting. Well, there is a reason for that too.
@farangsulsa2 It is also true that when outsiders see us doing our trapping, they ask is this Wing Chun or JKD, when they see our grappling, they ask is this BJJ and if they see our knife and stick work, we get questions like is this Kali or Silat? This is not all by accident. FMS is the culmination of many arts that I personally trained in, and we synthesized these into an integrated structure that flows and makes sense.
This is very much on purpose and by design. Our goal was to make a living, breathing art that is truly comprehensive and based on sound principles. Our techniques can be broken down into concepts and then taken to many levels. Our concepts can be evolved into technique example, that are only limited to your skill and imagination. This is the FMS way.
I trained under De Alba yesterday. It was great :)
