I'm for reform. It may not be perfect as it stands now but neither was social security when it was enacted. we changed it to make it better. We will do the same with health care.
I am for health care reform. I believe all Americans should have health care insurance. All the people who are against health care reform are those Americans who already have health care and who don't give a lick about anyone else. Many of the college students I know don't even have health care anymore.

As for affording it, under the House bill a large part of the funding would come from eliminating waste & inefficiency, like eliminating the unnecessary taxpayer subsidies to insurance companies for Medicare Advantage, and a surtax on those making more than half a million dollars per year. They would not even have to give up even one Porshe or mansion.

Of all the points I made you are only able to respond on one point, the "elimination of waste and inefficiency" and of course your response, like all your arguments, is nothing more than a repeat of GOP claims & assertions.
So lets analyze it:
a) the large amount of waste savings from elimination of taxpayer subsidies to insur. co's for Medicare Advantage is a "given". b) the bill directs mechanisms to look for and eliminate waste & inefficiency & will have far better results than no bill
c) the biggest danger to Medicare services is do nothing in the face of the unsustainable rising costs,
d) the bill includes more money for the Medicare stabilization fund which extends the life of Medicare an est. 5 yr.s',
e) and for comparison the GOP "plan" included a "level" on Medicare reimbursements which, in the face of rising h.c. costs, WAS effectively a "rationing" or "cap" of Medicare benefits.
When did "Health Care Reform" become "Health Insurance Reform". The only reform that the health insurance industry needs is to be put out of business and replaced with a single payer system that covers everyone.

There are a lot of reasons why cross state competition could never be relied on to solve the problems of the h.c. insurance system.
1) an out-of-state health plan by definition isn't going to have a local provider network and will have health care costs that are a lot more expensive than a local plan that does have discounts and managed care protocols negotiated with providers.
2) Insurance companies react to more competition in ways that are not in the public interest:
a) they reduce competition through mergers & acquisitions & increased market concentration.
The AMAssociation reports 95% of insur. markets in the U.S. are now highly concentrated and the no. of insurers has fallen by just under 20 percent since 2000. These mergers have not led to benefits for consumers: Premiums skyrocketed 87% over the six years.
Another way insur. co.'s react to increased competition is increased risk avoidance. In other words even more aggressive managed care, which has a detrimental effect on patients long term health, and even more avoidance of anyone who has the slightest health issue, so even more uninsured.
3) A major roadblock to cross-state competition is state reg.s It 's unrealistic to assume states will completely drop their reg's, which were for state policy goals.
But assume no state reg's: Co's could offer cheaper plans with less coverage, excluding anyone w/ health issues, so that lowers the average of premium cost & more could afford plans. Those who feel healthy &/or can't afford high premiums will often choose the cheaper plans. A percentage of them will incur the illnesses or injuries not covered. Result: Med. costs are shifted from a risk pool onto the backs of the sick & injured, at a time when they can probably least afford it,
That's always been an interesting and GOOD idea. To have two types of insurance, one type for routine and relatively inexpensive medical care, and another type for catastrophic medical conditions, treatment of which would bankrupt the average family. The basic insurance could have more flexible premiums and higher deductibles.
Being able to buy insurance across state lines, and take it with you from place to place, and job to job while retaining the lower prices that large groups can command by market share was what the National Health Insurance Exchange was supposed to do.
Nevertheless, Republicans and a few Democrats who claim to want those things still oppose these bills. It's amazing.

I agree people need health care, but this government takeover of health care is a terrible idea. If bodies like the Mayo clinic think it's a bad bill then you know something is wrong with it.
I'd like to know how can we afford giving millions of people free health care without grossly raising taxes or falling into even more debt? China already owns a big part of our treasury and I don't like the prospect of them having control over us when my kid is old enough to be on her own.

As for affording it, under the House bill a large part of the funding would come from eliminating waste & inefficiency, like eliminating the unnecessary taxpayer subsidies to insurance companies for Medicare Advantage, and a surtax on those making more than half a million dollars per year. They would not even have to give up even one Porshe or mansion.

Of all the points I made you are only able to respond on one point, the "elimination of waste and inefficiency" and of course your response, like all your arguments, is nothing more than a repeat of GOP claims & assertions.
So lets analyze it:

He's not even bright enough to appreciate the difference between "efficiency" and "funding".
Medicare is efficient, with overhead rates of about 3% compared to about 30% for private insur. co.'s.
It's not Medicare's fault that gov't gives unfunded tax cuts to the rich, starts 2 wars, continues pork projects etc, but doesn't plan for Medicare funding.

There are a lot of reasons why cross state competition could never be relied on to solve the problems of the h.c. insurance system.
1) an out-of-state health plan by definition isn't going to have a local provider network and will have health care costs that are a lot more expensive than a local plan that does have discounts and managed care protocols negotiated with providers.

- the bills would mean "socialized medicine", "government run h..c.:, "gov't takeover of the h;c. industry"
- it would just be subsidizing illegal immigrants
- we don't want a "socialist" h.c. system like that of Canada because it would mean horrible wait times & rationing
- we don't have enough doctors now, how can we afford to insure more people.

That's always been an interesting and GOOD idea. To have two types of insurance, one type for routine and relatively inexpensive medical care, and another type for catastrophic medical conditions, treatment of which would bankrupt the average family. The basic insurance could have more flexible premiums and higher deductibles.

b) why bother to separate out catastrophic coverage since it's something everyone should have as part of any insur. coverage?

Being able to buy insurance across state lines, and take it with you from place to place, and job to job while retaining the lower prices that large groups can command by market share was what the National Health Insurance Exchange was supposed to do.
Nevertheless, Republicans and a few Democrats who claim to want those things still oppose these bills. It's amazing.
