Richards is not a dirty player and wasn't head hunting there. Poti put himself in a defenseless position and paid for it.

However, I think that Richards charged him and should have been sent to the box. He took a good 2 or 3 strides into that hit. It's not dirty in my book, but rules are rules, and that constituted of a charge.

I don't get how catching a player defenseless is a cheap hit. I've played hockey for years as a defenseman, and the one thing that you're taught from the beginning. Tom Poti was in a vulnerable position, but HE PUT HIMSELF IN THAT POSITION. Mike Richards is one of the hardest workers and grittiest players in the NHL, and that makes him a great player. I'd pick him over ovechkin any day on my team. Big hits change the momentum, and tom poti just flat out sucks. Hockeyjock, you're an idiot.

Richards hit on Booth was clean just hard. Richards is a great young captain with a lot of upside. Chara is a good captain that has led his team to choke in the playoffs. His time is running out in his career and he hasn't accomplished much. I'd prefer a hard nosed player like Richards over a brute of an idiot like Chara. Nonetheless, great hit on Poti and equally great hit on Booth. Unfortunately for Booth he was injured. If he got up the convo about a cheapshot wouldn't even be discussed.

It wasn't a dirty hit because 1.) The hit came less than 1/3 of a second after Booth made the pass; 2.) Booth had his head down (a big no-no in hockey); 3.) Richards led with his shoulder and didn't leave his feet. Richards can't be faulted because he was following the letter of law, in terms of clean hits. Until they make if illegal for ANY hits to the head, then it's not a dirty hit. But it's easy to fault him because he plays for the Flyers and everyone loves to hate on them.

Also, I agree with dshinn's comments about Crosby. If there's anyone in the NHL that gets away with cheap shots/dirty hits, it's him, Evgeni Malkin, and Alex Ovechkin. The only reason why no one really notices is because everyone's focused on the Flyers' history and their 'cheap shots.' Sid, Geno, and Ovie will never be susepnded for dirty play because they're the most marketable players in the NHL.

Boston has yet to even get past the second round with Chara at the helm. The Carolina series was particularly unflattering as Staal lit him up like a Christmas tree until Z realized perhaps hitting him was a decent idea.

It is called a good hit. If you leave your head down with Mike Richards on the ice, you have a good chance of getting drilled. It is not Richards' fault you left your head down, it is your own.

Flyers fans had to deal with Lindros leaving his head down and Stevens essentially ended his career. It was not a "cheap hit" and it was Lindros' fault.

Lastly...what does it matter WHO he hits?
