That's America for you though the most petty, racist, and judging a book by it's cover place on earth. Black people have so many strikes against them just being black alone, not to mention with locs. I have locs and have to deal with corporate America because of the career path I chose. Sometimes you just want to say fuck it and quit playing the game and do other things to make money instead of deal with all the BS. Just feel people should let people be who they are and stop stereotyping..
I love this video!!! I wouldn't change my hair for a job either--even if I had kids, lol. I laughed when you came back with 2 ponytails.....one would've been good :) Yes, you certainly would get the job and if not, their loss. I'm sure this has already been said, but you are quite handsome...take care!!
As far as men go, I think as long as you keep your locs cultivated... then you give Corporate America permission to adjust to you. We can't keep adjusting and assimlating. I'm not getting a perm to make money, if I can't wear my locs at your job.. then you don't want me.. its who I am.
I will say that when a man's hairline starts receding, he has to be careful how he wears his locs, so his scalp won't get stressed.
At the end of the day WE AS BLACK PEOPLE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO BE OURSELVES. If we want to see change, it beings with each of us. We have been conforming to America long enough and look at how low our self esteem has gotten because of it. Im studying health sciences and plan to go to law school. Nothing will change if we dont overcome our own individual obstacles. WEAR YOUR HAIR PROUDLY...and make sure its clean for God's sake. We all have a part in making America recognize
I was watching this Steve Harvey special and he said his son wanted locs, but wasn't allowed to have them. When he explained why, he said that his son wanted to be a lawyer and he has never seen a lawyer with locs, so he couldn't have them. I still don't understand why what a person has on their head overshadows what they have in it. If you're intelligent and know the information needed for the jo your shouldn't be a factor.
@XILCwalkIX As long as your dreads are tied back with a headband or put in a pontytail or what have you, then I should see no issue. Are your teeth white? Do you smile? Is your lining crisp? Are you knowledgeable? Friendly? Unless you work in a kitchen I dont see why they should chastise you about some well kept locs. If they are dry, and you dont take care of them, I suggest you do. By doing so, you will help eliminate stereotypes and of course land that job.
I have locs and I'm a mortgage banker for a large bank. I do get a raised eyebrow but I would be offended if they ask me to cut my hair. I interviewed when my locs were only a few months old. It kinda like saying a company doesn't want to hire a lady with blond hair because she maybe not be that bright.
ROFL!!!! Id Hire You Bro... just to see how you'd wear ur hair everyday..... Nah But Your Locks are on point... Im in Corp America in Dallas TX... Im in a Senior Level Position and I havent experienced any problems so far... Thanks For Laugh Bro
Personally, I think your hair looks fantastic. And you're a perfect example of how long hair looks great on a guy in a suit and tie. I think if more longhaired guys dressed better, society's negative stigma of having long hair would diminish greatly. Thanks for posting your video and your thoughts on the issue.
me & my pops was talkin' about this last week. cuz i got braids, and for the past 3 or 4 years, everybody been tellin' i should cut my hair. but dats some ol' bullshit. if i got all the proper credentials for the job, what does my hair have to with anything? by tellin' me to cut my hair, u basically shittin' on my individuality & my heritage. to them, long on men & natural hair on black women is "unprofessional". dats why i say fuck corporate america. they all a bunch of snakes anyway
@StraightUp615 hell yea bruh.....its a bunch of bullshit....i heard even at this fast food jobs they tellin dudes that they have to cut there hair! BOY STOPP!!!!!
LMBO!! that was really cute. At the end of the day it's all about presentation. You have to know how to present yourself in a manner that will always make you shine. Whether you have locs, or your natural, or you perm, or you rock a low fade whatever you do it's all about presentation. I think locs are SUPER SUPER sexy but then again sometimes they can look really really bad. It's all about how you take care of yourself and your presentation.
Oh BTW love the samless plug "I'm single not married" (with wiggling eyebrows) lol Only if I was single ;-) but you would def. fit in coporate america minus the glasses and pigtails...oh hated the tie too. But you'd make it ha ha! I'm like you...I'd never change my hair because of a job. They'd have to be out of their mind to tell me anything remotely close to having to change my hair. They'd be a fight lol.
I work in coporate america and I don't have a problem the only other black person in my company also has locks. A friend of mine work directly under the CFO of a large hospital and he has locks as well. Many companies feel locks are more professional than braids. Also many police officers have locks as well. But then again I do live in NY and people are used to diversity.
Thanks for the ups on the topic. I oftentimes hear that locs are frowned upon but then I see certain congress people with locs and i'm confused. I guess as long as they look clean they're acceptable but I ain't cuttin my locs for nothin because for me it's part of connecting with who I am...by the way you have a great sense of humor...
It depends on the appearance of the locs. i have locs and I would say when they are freshly retwisted they look great and professional. I tend to get a lot of compliments when i freeform to but I would keep my hair twisted if I worked in corporate america just to be safe. i would never cut my locs for a job though.
I really enjoyed your video!!! Four years ago I went to the barber shop and had my hair cut to fade. The COO of the company said I had my hair cut like a boy....anyway being that she didn't know why I had to cut my hair the way I did, I loved me and the way I was rockin my hair! There is so much more to a person than there hair!!! Take Care and God Bless!
aye dog...you a trip..you keep people laughing..im pretty sure they would give you an executive postion if you came in like that..lol..as soooon as you walk through the door.(o yeah..you got to come on with the come on with part 2 dog.lol..stay up

not a gangster, but you started with the top button. hmmm... :) and i know that you and your phrat throw up "gang" signs. j/k i hate when people tell me that. (skee-phi)
any-who, in phoenix, having locs is not a problem. i recently accepted a new a professional job in which i interface with my customer's execs, and even in my current hair state, it has not been a problem. however, i have heard that one company in ATL has strict hair requirements. not for me.
While I completely agree with everything you said in the video, I have one question. What do you wash your locs with? lmao. nah but forreal Ima need to know because baking soda just aint cuttin it :\ Nice vid tho bro!
tru man great vid and thanks for making this, like my friend get on my nerves keep saying your going to cut your locs man, i tell him i dont kno what the future hold but i dont plan on cutting my locs for the only reason is because my locs are a part of me and they define me and also there a lifestyle not just a hairstyle for me..ya know and i got locs for me not no one else. and im going to be a IT personel and still have my locs
Wow, this is def one of the funniest!!! Love it! And I can appreciate this video because I know I am entering a very conservative profession and ppl ask me all the time what I am going to do with my locs. That irritates me so much b/c I don't need them to remind me of the potential challenges I will face working for clients or employers who don't approve locs...thanks for this video
Great message. They say "if you're looking for a job you're looking for a boss." If you want to be your own boss wear your hair as you please! This made me smile =)
I wonder if it is different for men then women? I have a manager at my job that has locs to the base of his neck. I have locs the same length. I have been in corp america and that is all that I have been doing. I think that it is sad that 'we' always have to conform. White folks walking around natural, why can't we. As long as your locs are neat, why not? I would hire you but spend the rest of the day reminding myself that sexual harassment is just so wrong. LOL

As long as they look neat like Chescaliegh or BronzeGoddess, then it should be alright.
No one tells the Indian Sikhs to remove his Turbans (Google MasterCard CEO).
No one tells the Arabs to remove that towel/band dress thing they wear.
Anyway, the black man shouldn't be working for the white corparation. Time for the BM to stand on his own two feet and stop asking 'DAD' for help.
Can I get an AMEN!?....only joking:D

I have an interview on wednesday, im still debating whether to cut or keep them.
The thing is ive been looking for ages and if I dont get it based on my appearance then the hair will be the reason.
But then if I do cut them and slip up on the interview then ive lost both battles.
Who knows.
