  • The books that I read on Arnold tell that the attack on New London was only lead by Arnold in name and that his own British troops ignored his orders and butchered the town against his orders. After that he would resign and leave the military.

Upon his death bed he asked his wife to dress him in his American uniform saying, "Let me die in this old uniform in which I fought my battles. May God forgive me for ever having put on another."

  • Arnold was born and raised in Norwich, Connecticut. He operated successful trade businesses there well until his 30's. His wealthy family is still in the area.

Arnold is definitely not from Ridgefield, this documentary is misleading. "Hometown Hero" is false, unless you are from Norwich.

  • @roamingjones: "... this documentary is misleading. "Hometown Hero" is false, unless you are from Norwich."

You're not reading carefully. The title reads "MY Hometown Hero" -- i.e., Arnold was a hero in MY home town. Which he was.

  • @Friendquiney Oh my bad. Wonderful Video!

  • Here was a man who won back his honour, and a man who realized the errors of his initial rebellious ways. The hero and martyr Major John Andre, his majesty's Adjutant General, sacrificed his life to protect the noble hero Benedict Arnold.

May his memory be honoured for choosing the right path and the right side, despite it being the losing side. May all such honest, noble loyal subjects of His Majesty King George III be remembered in this way as well.

  • @Falwren "The hero and martyr Major John Andre, his majesty's Adjutant General, sacrificed his life to protect the noble hero Benedict Arnold."

H'mm. That's not QUITE what happened. However, it's always interesting to get the British point of view.

  • @Falwren Even i can't agree with that,and yes i am a Brit

  • "Did you read what I wrote 11 months ago?"

    Yes, several times.

  • So "my view is not so different to yours"

  • as a brit in my youth b arnold was cast a villan, a traitor, was he? i don,t know?

  • He was a hero, a traitor, and a butcher. He should have been killed in the battle of Saratoga.

  • Lets ask some questions and figure out some answers that of course americans disagree with that loyalists if any still there may agree , ok lets go question 1, Who created the 13 colonies on the east coast of the new world . A) The People and Monarchy of Great Britain ,

question 2 , What nationality were the settlers of the 13 colonies.

    A) British ,

question 3 , Did the settlers of the 13 colonies Create the 13 colonies of the new world an official country

  • A) No, Because the settlers of the settlers of the 13 colonies didnt turn the new world into a country so the settlers were british and children born on british land were british

  • So was benedict arnold a traitor the real answer NO he realised that he was fighting against his nationality so as a true patriot he defended british land against the true traitors .

  • It is clear that our British friends have a rather different view of the American Revolution -- and, indeed, of Benedict

    Arnold.

  • i dont hate americans , but its seems they dont like there history and heritage , black people have a heritage month as do irish , asians and more yet british heritage seems to be nonexistant , why do americans refuse to accept there british heritage

  • Arnold was the best General on both sides.

  • An interesting comment, but not one I can agree with.

  • I mean by his ability not his character.

  • Even so...

  • @Friendquiney . "redredbull17" is not from Britain but from Russia.

  • He never got on to well over here either ,when George 111 introduced him to Alexnder Lindsay,Earl of Balcarres he is said to have replied "What the traitor Arnold?.The remark led to a duel.Arnold fired, but Balcarres walked away."Why do you not fire my lord?".Arnold called.Balcarres called back over his shoulder,"I leave you to the executioner".

  • Good comment -- thanks.

  • Great writing and narration! Even as an amateur Arnold buff, I learned stuff about the New London raid I never knew. Thanks for posting.

  • Great to hear from you -- thanks.
