Dude, ferric chloride is potentially dangerous, it's corrosive and its vapors are irritating for the respiratory system. Shouldn't you wear gloves and protective mask and glasses?
I've been using an incandescent (automotive style) trouble light to heat the FeCl directly w/o a water bath. Just put a 100 or 120 watt bulb in there and hang it above the tray (or below) to heat it. Works slowly, but after about 10 minutes it's pretty hot. The lamp won't be capable of getting the acid to boiling/scalding temps so that's good from a safety point of view if you somehow forget it.
look up IC programming... you program the ICs that are stuck onto the boards, but the boards themselves are basically a way in which to simplify complex wiring and connections. with a printed circuit board, you don't need to have wires running to and from every connection :)
like i dont need it to be tined just i need the enough to make a couple circuit boards cuase right now im building a simple metal detector and later im going to build a bit more advanced one
Those look like metal baking pans, and it also looks like FeCl. Is the teflon on the pan sufficient to keep the acid from attacking the pan or did you coat it with something else?
For everyone else - Liquid tin is made my MG chemicals and is available worldwide from Mouser Electronics or Digi-Key
"LIQUID TIN" by MG Chemicals from your local electronic parts store. It took a long time because it is an old bottle the is almost saturated. I need to get some more. The stuff usually works in a few minutes.
I do use gloves most of the time. I just forgot to get them at 4:45 and everything can not be put on hold while I look for the glove. Timing is everything at this stage.
I am using ferric chloride to etch...just an old batch. Just switched to a new bottle. The stuff is not cheap and I like to use it as long as possible.
i am doing my design and i want to try that liquid tin i cant find it here in the philippines where is it available, is it available in electronics store?
What can you tell me about this liquid tin? Is it really tin or something similar? I like it coz no heat is used, and for very small traces... Hope you can tell
Hi, great job. can you tell me what part of the board dissolves in the solution, is it the part of the board that is covered with the ink or without the ink. thank you
The copper gets dissolved. The presensitized coating stay where the back is on the film once developed in developer solution. Etching follows. Thnaks for your comments.
wear gloves please.

Hi there..Very nice tutorial..I have one question though..What is the crytals for?At the tinning stage. And what is called?
Thanks :)

@naw1212 After awhile my 'Liquid Tin' gets crystals in the bottom of the container.

Man, do you happen to know somewhere that it is possible to buy liquid tin and ships to Europe???

Where would one learn the "programming" of such boards?
afroschlan 1 year ago
What do you mean "programming"?
X2YeZCAMCNC 1 year ago 5
Arrange the circuits so they do what I want them to do.. I guess.
afroschlan 1 year ago
@X2YeZCAMCNC Go learn electrical engineering from a university. Takes 4 years.

could i get he suplies from electroni stores or homedepot? plz i really need to know cuase i cant buy online
chickenpoper 1 year ago
yes at electronic store not home depot...where are you located?
X2YeZCAMCNC 1 year ago
watertown,connecticut
and ould i get it at radioshack?and how much does it cost
chickenpoper 1 year ago
yes you should be able to get stuff at radio shack
cost depends on size and method used but mostly the same

The trays are hard plastic photo developing trays.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!

When making a circuit board is it necessary to have double sided or is single sided OK?
GilmoursBlackStrat 2 years ago
The one shown in the video is single sided

Did you mirror the image? the danger is mirrored but great video this is what i wanted to see.

Yes it is mirrored.
Made to show through board from other side.
Thanks for your comments

can i substitute the liquid tin wt something else? i cant find it anywhere...
vlahos78 2 years ago
You do not have to use it for your board to work.
X2YeZCAMCNC 2 years ago
what is that white powder you poured in the liquid tin? what does it do??
vlahos78 2 years ago
The crystal that were in the bottom of the bottle of liquid tin. It is a very old bottle.

Good video, but I really did cringe when you dipped the board into the ferric without gloves. That stuff will eat your flesh to the bone

its time consuming. i am suggesting you to use of ferric chloride acid solution for faster etching. nyc video

The copper gets dissolved is where the light hit the coating. See part #1 artwork is printed on the transparency.
X2YeZCAMCNC 3 years ago
the copper where the black on the artwork stays and where the light goes through the transparency the copper dissolves.
