  • I plan on making the short drive from Florence to see this event. Went to the Mustang 45th Anniversary even last year and the track and had a blast.

  • US F1 team is going to make its track debut at Barber Motorsports Park next month!!!

  • April 11th

  • Can't wait till august

  • Awesome!!! I can't wait for April. Just did a DE at Barber and is a beautiful course. It is maintained better than some golf courses.

  • That's my home town!

  • IndyCars should go to a full road course schedule

  • Congratulations Barber on landing an IndyCar Series race!!!! This will be an incredible motorsports event and will not disappoint the great people of Alabama as they are about to witness the FASTEST automobiles on the planet.

  • they are nowhere near the fastest

  • werd. this is one of the most beautiful tracks i have ever been to and that is saying a lot.

  • well if you love ovals so much....TURN LEFT TURN LEFT TURN LEFT TURN LEFT.... i dont have an issue with ovals i think they are great but all ovals all year is so dumb

  • ok dude go to nascar please

  • i was there also, maybe next year !

  • dude sweet video i hope they run here in 2010!!

  • lucky you. you may not have to wait till '10. word on has it that Barber or Portland will be getting Detroits labor day race. I really love both tracks so ill be happy no matter what :)

  • You can add both Michigan International Speedway and Montreal to that list.

  • looks like spring 2010 is a lock. maybe theyll bring the ALMS with them. that would be sweet

  • Well you can forget about that because we have the ALSCCA Double SAARC event scheduled for Labor Day weekend and it is now an annual event.

Not enough interest in this area for Indy Cars and the local news media refuses to give any love and attention to Barbers (even if its in their own backyard!)

  • Are you kidding? For the 2009 test day we had higher attendance numbers at Barber than several 2008 IRL race events. The *test day* got front page coverage in the paper. I wouldn't exactly call that "no love." If Tony George calls, you think Gene Hallman wouldn't punt a regional SCCA event to a different weekend? Come on, he'd be an idiot not to.

  • How about 2009 now that Detroit as been dropped.

  • the pre season is march 22nd weekend. I cant wait!

  • YES, sounds give me goosebumps

  • for those who think that the pontiac G8 is am american built car, it's actually built in australia, based on a "Holden Commodore", using a 6.0 litre L98 V8, with about 270kw of power (im not sure what that is in horsepower).

  • i'd love to see a speed comparison between a V8 supercar and a NASCAR over in USA, i'd like to see a V8 supercar round over in the USA.

  • it matters when you have to take ur hand off the wheel at over 300km/h (186mph) to downshift, but with the indycar drivers, they don't have to.

  • Indycar drivers have to take the hand off the wheel to shift!

  • Right, Indycars do have paddle-shift from this season on.

  • that's a really good point. and i agree. our cars don't need turbo's or Push To Pass to get to the horsepower that the indycars have. i reckon a lot more hard work goes into the V8's than the indycar teams do to their cars.

  • LOL, Indycars use V8s, too, and their engines are much more sophisticated than the engines in a V8 Supercar or NASCAR.

Of course at the moment there is no further development on the Indycar engines, because there is only one manufacturer (Honda) in the game.

All the development done to NASCAR- and V8 Supercar-engines is very limited and more about optimizing everything within the very restricted rules to gain even one hp.

  • plus, our cars don't have the safetey cells like the NASCARS

  • For the record, I love V8 Supercars. Great series. Unfortunately they don't show it over here any more.

But arguing that it's cooler because the cars are less safe and the spectators at a track may be harmed is probably not the best thing to point out.

I'd stick with that you running much more "stock" cars than NASCAR and your circuits are some of the best - certainly beats an oval track.

  • fair comment. how fast does the NASCARS go on the oval?

  • I'm not sure; over 200mph at the fastest tracks.

  • shit!!!!! our cars don't even go that fast down conrod straight at bathurst. 200mph, that's about 320 km/h (correct me if im wrong), that's fucken quick!!! our cars reach 186 mph exactly on the rev limiter (7500 RPM). i would love to see a V8 supercar and a NASCAR do a speed comparison at bathurst and at calder park speed way oval, i don't know if people can still race on it, because the oval's 30 years old. but the NASCAR would match a V8 supercar down conrod straight, i reckon.

  • yeah that would be fun

    but look at this

NASCAR stock car: about 800hp, 3400lbs.

once u get it going it'll be a bitch to stop

  • what brakes do they use?? drums??

  • Haha, not quite. Run of the mill iron racing discs, same as you would find in a something like a street-based GT race series. Carbon-ceramic and carbon-carbon brakes are banned by NASCAR rules.

  • same with our brakes, they have to be cast iron discs.

  • what sort of gearboxes do NASCARS use, how much do they weigh in Kilo's, and what's the engine???? im guessing it's a chevrolet built 8 litre (or close to it) V8.

  • 6 speed sequential on road courses, 4 speed H-shift on the speedways. Weight is 3450lbs. Engine is roughly 5.6L V8, OHV, single cam, pushrod, 750cfm carb, around 900hp unrestricted (they're restricted at Daytona and Talladega).

  • No, they use 4 speed H-pattern gearbox on all tracks including the road courses. Power is around 800 hp I would say and well below 500 hp on the superspeedways.

I think a V8 Supercar is clearly faster than a NASCAR around road-courses because of much better handling.

  • One of the big problems with NASCAR brakes is that they are restricted to 15-inch wheels and there just isn't room for bigger brakes, plus the fact that they're so heavy. The brakes are actually terrible for a racing car.

  • and the walls we have at our races are only 4 feet tall, so if you have a roll, it's so easy to skip the fence, and get into the spectator area. but with the fences in america, they have extra fencing on top of the walls to stop them from getting into the spectator area, im assuming that's what their for. im only saying this because some people on other video's think that our racing is fucken chicken feed in comparison to all your racing. in some cases, that's true, and i respect that.

  • i reckon the australian V8 supercar(australian touring car)drivers work the hardest of all drivers. sure, the indycars and F1 cars and drivers go faster in a straight line and have more g forces to cope with, but they only use a paddleshift gearbox. try using a 6 speed h-pattern hollinger gearbox for 5 hours straight at the bathurst 1000, and the indycar drivers won't even make it to lap 80, because our enduro's go up to 161 race.

  • Indycars currently use a manual sequential box. They are testing paddle shift though.

If your greater point is physical exertion, g forces are much harder to deal with than even the stiffest shifter. The Indy 500 would probably take.

If you're comparing exertion across forms of racing, motocross wins it, no contest. Maybe you know of fellow Aussie Chad Reed?

  • i would LOVE to see indycars at Barber. its a great little track and the IRL needs more races in the south east.

the sound on this video is just awesome btw, great job man

  • go marco

  • SOUND=BEAUTIFUL

  • I just raced Barber this past weekend with NASA...I can only imagine what it must be like to do a lap around that place in a top level race car. Or even in an Indycar. ;)

  • AWESOME!

  • I love the sound of Indycars. I visited the Indy 500 this year, and I was impressed. Great vid my friend :-)
