The video seems to tell the story of Maurice's character flashing back to when he was a kid. He hugged who seemed to be his mother at a restaurant when he went to visit her at night, so I'm assuming she passed away. So he's remembering himself at that age being lost (hence, "Stand By Me"). The girl jump roping is the woman he's dancing with at the end of the video. The part you asked about is the end of his flashback, transitioning to the present time.

I'm not a big fan of remakes, especially those as iconic as Stand By Me. Maurice White is talented enough to take any song and make it his own. That's what he did here. It created a different feel and vibe altogether. Outside of the verses, if you came into the middle or end riffs of the song, you'd never know it was Stand By Me. That's what makes it such a good cover and that's what makes Maurice White a genius. Rip off? No. Fun update? Absolutely.

Just looked it up in the CD booklet: Maurice White and Robbie Buchanan (Canadian keyboard/synth whiz and L. A. studio session legend) did the arranging, and Abraham Laboriel was the bass player. Vocals were arranged by MW, Brian Fairweather and Martin Page.
