  • i bought the album off of amazon a couple of years back for about £40...its amazing, theres about 6-7 tracks on there that are total gems that so many people who love this music probably wont ever get to hear

  • been looking for his lp for the longest. glade to hear this video tho...thanks!

  • I'm A Big Maurice White Fan!! Great Song And Performance By The Sage Himself!!

  • @1blackmass Totally agree, A big fan of the genius Mr. Maurice White

  • This cover is far superior to the flat dreary original pos.

  • p.s...All the World...Come Together...Live in Harmony...(hint, hint)

  • WOW, loved it then, still love it now. Maurice White did a brilliant job! Without a doubt an absolutely awesome (version of the) song, love it!

  • Ben E. Kieth is the original creator of this song. You foreigners need to shut-the-fuck-up. You are an ignorant species. And Maurice's black ass can remake what he wants. He has a lifetime ghetto pass...you do not, idiot.

  • That dance, I love it ! That IS Maurice White's signature .

  • you bunch of retarded, 4 the cause is the one of and the original maker of this song, and everyone else are just trash rip off.

  • @HASHlRAMA Stupid mexican moron. Who the fuck is 4 the cause? Ben E. Kieth wrote this song in the 50s. Go back to your Menudo videos, maricone.

  • @brothamandap

rofl... herp derp, the writter of the song is Ben E King dumbshit lol... now go back to school and get some education please.... oh and try no to get trolled so much ok? thanks

  • Beautiful video, I love Maurice White

  • You are the light that shines in my life- he makes it his own!

  • The little boy in this video is Maurice White's son. I don't know how to spell his name but it begins with an K. Maurice used to have a forum where he would answer question and I asked if the boy was his son and he actually replied and said it was his.

  • What an awesome man. I thanks God for you Maurice.

  • MW did this BETTER than the original version, no doubt about it!

  • My favorite remake of this most classic song! Love it! Love it! Love it! :)

  • Thank You Mr Maurice White for all the wonderful Music you have given us over the years. You and Earth Wind and Fire, Pockets and Emotions, have given us The Best of Your Love. And it has given us Happy Feelings. God Bless you all Sir.

  • remaind me1990..super compulation

  • Everything song Maurice touches turns to gold .. talented talented man. Love his version of this song! ♥

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You have no idea how long I've been searching, first for just the song, and then the video!! I'd almost given up. Maurice did this song justice and more!! I wasn't a big fan of the original---a little flat. This is great!!

  • I have waited for years to find this video. WOW! How I love what Mr. Maurice White did with this song. Fabulous:)

  • I love this song and used to be in love with the main girl in this video.... Who is this girl? She was fine.

  • I love this song! While it's not the Ben E. King original, it stands on it's own. Mauricwe White it a talented singer who's added his unique flavor to the song. Bravo!!!!

  • Good times back then.

  • DA DA DA DA DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYMN!!! MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYN!!!!!!!!!

  • I like this song so much! This song remember me River Fenix.

  • Love this cover!

  • can somone who is musical-theory-savvy please explain what happens around 2:35 ? thanks!

  • @MalaTemporaCurrunta little before really, around 2:30 - ish ...

  • @MalaTemporaCurrunt

The video seems to tell the story of Maurice's character flashing back to when he was a kid. He hugged who seemed to be his mother at a restaurant when he went to visit her at night, so I'm assuming she passed away. So he's remembering himself at that age being lost (hence, "Stand By Me"). The girl jump roping is the woman he's dancing with at the end of the video. The part you asked about is the end of his flashback, transitioning to the present time.

  • @MalaTemporaCurrunt

    That's my interpretation anyway :)

    Good song.

  • @wudaddy

hey thanks for reply ... but ... i was realy asking about the musical arrangement ;-)

  • @MalaTemporaCurrunt

I guess I misunderstood the question. Maybe someone else can help.

  • i like the Prince Royce and this one the best the Ben E King one is ok but not as good as the others. i like this one cuz its original but the Prince Royce one stands out because is has very good rythem and the spanish he added was very good :D

  • The woman that the little boy hugs looks a lot like Whitney Houston. Is it her?

  • best rendition...

  • Haven't seen this one in years, brings tears to my eyes. May God forever bless and keep you brother Maurice...

  • brings back memories of the 80s. i heard this version before the ben e king one and to me it will always be the best stand by me rendition! love it when the drum beat kicks in on this track - pure magic!

  • La meilleure version !!!!

  • awesome

  • Love this sing. Remember very well when it came out. I think it was 1986, a great time. Thanks.

  • Many others have recorded this song since Ben E. King but only Maurice nailed it!!!

  • The original, by Ben E King, is THE best... But Maurice White's version, is the second best! Yes.

  • - Maurice was awesome, the dancers were all awesome and it was a memory of a lifetime - I'm so glad I found it on here, thank you for posting it. Little trivia - One of the guys (the guy with the cane in the street dance section) was the police officer (Dancer) in the famous Lionel Richie Video All Night Long.

  • I'm the guy in the white dishwashers outfit that comes out of the supposed restaurant kitchen (it was actually a Janitorial closet...I had to squeeze in there with the smoke machine guy for the shot - We filmed for 2 long nights (all my shots were at night) they also shot quite a bit in the day time. It was shot just a few blocks from Mann's Chinese Theater, right off Hollywood Blvd. in the summer of 1985 >> Con't...

  • I sent Maurice a message years ago, that is for sure his son in the video, his name is Kabrim or something of that nature.

  • AT LAST! I found it!!! THanks Maurice WHite and YouTube, I was afraid I was going to die of old age before I heard this again. It has been buzzing around inside my head for the last quarter century, thinking maybe I saw this beauty on BET. I love this fine R&B arrangement!!

  • Truly great song, redone by a legendary artist, Mr. Maurice White, the heart & soul of perhaps the greatest band in the history of R&B/POP! In fact, attempting to catergorize the music of Earth, Wind & Fire is doing them a dis-service; they play EVERY type of music imaginable, and DAMN WELL, I might add!

  • You put this man(Maurice White), and Philip Bailey together, and you have put together the Greatest Band Ever Assemble. EWF

  • What this man did with that one word "Stand" other vocalists can't do in an entire song! What a great song and memories, thanks.

  • is that his son in the video? because they eyes are JUST like Maurice's. i mean EXACTLY. lol

  • one of the greats from the group "earth, wind,&fire " he's an excellent songwriter.

  • how unfortunate the 80's were

  • if you like this then youtube "playing for change-stand by me.

  • Yes, Playing for change did it well!!!

  • Thank U

  • es un poco rara esta interpretacion por el sonido de earth wind and fire pero no esta mal (Y)

  • Hola amigo, pues yo creo ke supera a la original, saludos

  • asi es suena muy bien

  • what year is this from??

  • This was from the Mid 80s on a Solo Album by Maurice White (Mastermind of Earth Wind and Fire) RAre but it shows up on EBAY here and there

  • 1985

  • yay the 80s!!

  • Sing that song Ben E.---one of the best of ALL TIME. Before I go, you all might want to check out the Play for Change of this song CHECK OUT--ON YOUTUBE--right away:

PLAYING FOR CHANGE:SONG AROUND THE WORLD "STAND BY ME"

Let me know if you think it the best rendition of this song since Ben E. laid down his track 50 years ago.

  • I remember when this video first came out! I love maurice white whether he was solo or with earth, wind, and fire! This version of stand by me is one of my faves.

  • I'm 17 and love only the ol' school baby! That's what my mother and dad raised me up on. As a young little cub of the 90s Mint Condition was played a hell of a lot and there were some other people who I can't think of right now. But Maurice White was my life at three years old and I'll always love him. Always.

  • i'm 12

  • Awesome song - brings back good memories.

Why don't people dance in the streets like they used to in 80s videos?

  • Love this! Maurice is a legend.

  • maurice whites son, the little boy is in this video

  • The best version ever ...

  • Not many teens these days listen to music like this, but I'm one of them, and sometimes I wish music like this was still amde today.

  • make me the 2nd youngster that enjoys 80s music. i'm 20 lol

  • cool! i don't know why, but i just have a love for the oldies. well, some of it anyways lol.

  • i can't give you a specific name musically, but the 1980s had style of music that separated the decade from other music eras like the 60, 70, 90s and today.

  • so, i'm the 3rd xD. btw, i'm 19.

  • pwon

    im 14

  • interesting. it's good to know to know there are teens that exist who appreciate the classics enough to realize that today's mainstream songs don't show the significance of what music really is

  • Great song

  • You can still hear the Earth Wind & Fire vibe, too.

  • you know i have this cassette at home my favorite from that album was jamboree and i need you but after watching this video im gonna start playing stand by me i never really payed attention to that song but i am an eighties child now 31 years of age i like it a lot

  • My favorite song from his album is Jamboree too!

  • I wish I could have been in this video!

  • i really like his version of this song. It's an old favorite yet different. I remember this song from the eighties.

  • can i put my 2 cents worth ,to me this song is is better than the original more up beat an grovy an yes maurice is a genius ,every one has there own opinion lets jus enjoy if u dont like this song its all good in my hood , peace jesus loves us any ways

  • I absolutely, positively agree with both of you rennisrennis and MetuNtr! Anyone who believes this is a rip off of one of Lionel Richie's hits cannot really differentiate between the two styles. I am a fan of both and there is clearly a difference between the two. I have loved this version of Stand By Me by Maurice White from the first time I heard it played and I love the video even more! He definitely gives Ben E. King a run for his money.

  • I absolutely, postively agree with the both of you, rennisrennis and Metu

  • Definitely the best version of this song, even better than original.

  • @rennisrennis -prince royce sings it better

  • Hez Da Man!!!! LOVE DIS VERSION.

  • Mr. White is a genius!!!

  • I'm not a big fan of remakes, especially those as iconic as Stand By Me. Maurice White is talented enough to take any song and make it his own. That's what he did here. It created a different feel and vibe altogether. Outside of the verses, if you came into the middle or end riffs of the song, you'd never know it was Stand By Me. That's what makes it such a good cover and that's what makes Maurice White a genius. Rip off? No. Fun update? Absolutely.

  • I could not have said it better myself. I agree with you totally!

  • I seen Maurice White on VH1 when Earth, Wind & Fire was being honored and he got a loud deserving ovation. I just pray that his disease will let him stay around longer cus we losin too many music brothas such as Isaac Hayes, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, Rick James, & James Brown

  • I agree

  • Anyone that thinks this sounds like Mr. Ritchie is insane. Maurice is a true artist and the best we will EVER see. If anything it sounds like EWF! Long live Maurice!!!

  • Love this! Maurice is a legend.

  • This is a great video and it tells the rise of Maurice WHite from his arly childhood in Memphis to his work with Ramsey Lewis. He always love this song and looked for different way to sing it.

  • EWF was,is and always will be a better group than the commodores-bar none.

Consequently, solo career or not, i would pay top dollar to watch Maurice White over horse-faced lionel richie.

  • That's effed up! LOL

  • Maurice White, ripping someone off?? It is to laugh. The public's musical preference dictates what an artist creates to hopefully maintain their peak, therefore artists the world over too numerous to count were all guilty of the same thing. Trying to remain on top.

  • Maurice should be embarrassed by this song, it's a straight Lionel Richie rip off of "All Night Long" (lead singer of funk band does solo pop song) and I need You ripped off "Hello"

  • Maurice White was the first to write the song :)

  • Maurice White didn't write Stand By Me, it was written Ben E. King and Jerry Leiber with Mike Stoller. Maurice covered this song in 1985 and restructured it to sound more pop, like Lionel Richie's music.

  • Exactly, you broke it down!

  • Completely different chords, rhythm and vibe for each song. what're you hearing?

  • this is the best version of the song iam glad i found it in you tube it took me 18 years to find out the artist of this version thank you u tube and every one who put this version out god bless maurice is amazing

  • THAT VOICE.....OMG

  • GREAT video - what a good memory I have of this song and that time in my life. Thanks for posting!!

  • THE MAN!!

  • Oh, now...see... you did the right thing by posting this video. This is one of my all time favorites. Maurice is a musical legend! Love it!

  • My song!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this song...By me Stand By Me...want you stay...I agree Pure talent MW

  • Pure talent combined with passion equals MW, this man is a real legend.

  • Phenominal, only Maurie White, the man is top class. This actually sounds and feels better than the original. I rate it 10 stars

  • I am glad I'm not the only one who agrees this song is a classic, fun song and simple video...Miss this stuff. Still sounds good to this day. Maurice White a true vocalist and EWF, compared to the "trash" today...sorry, but I haven't heard quality music compared to the past. Thx. shoko3848 for posting this one. Long live Earth, Wind and Fire can't forget Heatwave if you want to hear some real vocals. Peace

  • They don't make cool and casual cuts like this anymore. This just makes you want to dance and feel good! I miss the days!

  • no i won't be afraid (8)

  • I was in love with this when it came out in the 80's! Still bad! He was great with EW&F, but this takes the cake.

  • Yes, I must admit. This is the best version of Stand By Me...

  • This takes me back to Camp lejeune 1985-OOH RAH!

  • This is vest version of Stabd by me!!

  • I love this version.

  • Maurice White is the man..those of you may not remember when they had 2 women in their group back in the day

  • oh I am young but I do know about that. Not sure of the name of the vocalist.one of the songs I have is called "loving you" and keep your head to the sky. The best group of all time for sure.

  • meny singer coverd this song.

however it might be this tune it is equal to the original.

  • VERY EARTH WIND AND FIRE!@ YEAH!

  • His music definately has gospel roots but his arrangements are funky. Anyone know who did the arranging? The bass really ads a new dimension to the song.

  • Just looked it up in the CD booklet: Maurice White and Robbie Buchanan (Canadian keyboard/synth whiz and L. A. studio session legend) did the arranging, and Abraham Laboriel was the bass player. Vocals were arranged by MW, Brian Fairweather and Martin Page.

I just love the upbeat synth solo at the end (played by Greg Phillinganes)...

  • I like this version much better.

  • it was yamaha dx7 or roland

  • shot man! this is my favourite version of the song, always takes me back! good times, good times. thanks for the post

  • Thank you for posting this. Maurice's entire 1985 solo album is excellent.

You'll notice that Maurice added a few words to the original version:

    All the world

    Come together

    Live in harmony

  • One of the few covers that is as good as the original!

  • By far the BEST "satnd by me rendition...

  • Me, too. It's sacrilege to say, but as the biggest EWF ever, I prefer this version to the original!

    (DUCKS)

    :)

  • I know many of you know this. But in case there are some youngsters who don't realize this - the man in this video is the leader and creator of EARTH, WIND AND FIRE. If you like or have any respect for that band at all, you owe it all to this man (MAURICE WHITE).

  • I contacted Maurice and aske him if the boy was his son, he confirmed it and said his son's name is something like Kabrim, I forget the spelling now.

  • Oh, I love Maurice. His voice is so wonderfull.

  • I just love old skool videos, and Maurice White is no exception. You should also catch his Earth, Wind, and Fire video on here - Let's Groove. Nice feel good song.

  • Why, oh WHY isn't this version of "Stand By Me" played more as apart of the Old School mixes on Urban radio today? This is/was the jam, although he reminds me a lot of Lionel Richie in this song and video (even when he performed it on Solid Gold). LOL..I just see lots of "Lionel" elements in this video. Still, I love it...I miss this period.

  • because radio stations are ignorant, this is why most songs from the 70's and 80's are ignored except the same handful you hear ALL THE TIME. This one is so deserving of being played and remembered

  • Hey whoever Posted this Video Thanks I've been trying to find it for a long time, I am in this as one of the girls who come out of the alley ....If you knnow how I can get a copy please contact me
