Dont get me wrong this aint bad but its a slice from the same pie just more of the same and they're not a very good cover band they do there best ToTR Dude I dig Local H and all but not my favorite cover of this song BY Link's LONGSHOT!
@polvaultr8 It's tough to recreate the energy that TV on The Radio has with this song, but I agree with you Local H doesn't do a bad version. Some songs are so well written that just about anybody can do it and it sound good, but nothing is like the original. The Pluto Tapes do a really unique cover of it.
It's not a bad Cover but definately not better than the original.. I don't feel it as much in this one.. In the original it evokes more emotion from me.. Maybe im biased cuz the original is my favorite song but fuck it..
Local H! I'm def, cool with that! Dig the more heavy drum! Better than the OG! You F..king with me right now? The vocals dont stand up to a snowballs chance in hell!
When are all you little cry baby douchelords going to learn that music is an opinion? I like Local H, I have since As Good As Dead, but that doesn't mean that everybody has to like them. Relax, enjoy the music. Or don't.
Not many covers are ever "better" than the original. What matters is if they do it justice or not. In this case, they did. As they do with pretty much all of their covers (ex: Toxic). Stop being so goddamn pretentious and just go listen to the original and stop crying about it you big babies. Jeeeeeeeez!
I don't think its as good as the original, but I REALLY dig it, and its good to hear Local H still sounding great, loved them back in the 90s when I was growing up (born in the 80s). I'm gonna play that again!
@straightGRIZZLYadams not sure if it was during a tour or not but he left at some point after "pack up the cats" and went to another band. i didnt find out brian was in the band until the night of a show down here in Fl at the house of blues. me and a friend talked to gabe before the show that night and gabe was like " we got a new drummer". fears were put away by the end of the first song as brian broke his drums on the very first song.. we werent missing joe anymore. LONG LIVE BRIAN.
Hmm. Very similar to the original, which is fine, but Local H misses a couple of the subtle things that TVOTR hit. Good song choice, and solid execution, but doesn't add much.
For me it's just a preference on the arrangement, and vocals. I mean each version holds it own. For me, lead vocals in this version is as guttural and aggressive in tone. This song is about being a beast, it's raw and combative...I didn't get that impression w/this version...but that's just me.
Ok, I hate to sound like a local h snob, BUT: if you've read anything Scott's said or written about this song, he clearly states the obsession he with it when it came out THAT'S why he covered it. He never tries to out do the original of anything. Music is is passion and when he does do covers, it's because he likes to song and it's a good time for the fans. So TVOR fans can just eat dick when think of stupid shit like "oh it's not as good as the original, blah fucking blah."
@hifivnmutha I had and still have an obsession with the original, and love Local H's version just as much. I was happy as HELL when I saw them close one of their shows with it...their version is their own, and so it TVOTR's version theirs. It's like falling in love with two hot chicks...it may not be right, but it's possible. :)
Either buy the LP that it's on or wait for the "Mixtape" cover album that's coming out soon. They had the "mixtape" album on the PA at a free show at the Beat Kitchen just last week. The also played it live during the encore. Good times.
Good cover, but then again if you take any great song and don't change anything, any competant musicians will make it sound good. i'm more impressed when someone takes a lesser known song and/or changes the style of the music in the cover and makes it their own.
My band got to open for Local H in 2004 at the Cleveland Music Festival. It was the night before my birthday I've been a Local H fan since the first album. After the show I talked to Scott and we did a bunch of shots together for my birthday..Thanks Scott..Local H rules..I first met Scott and Brian in 2001 after a show at Peabodys in Cleveland class act all the way..
This band is just fucking rad man! Scott is Scott, I have met him several times and it's just who he is. The drummer Bian is totally cool and will talk to you as if you've known him all your life. They just rock and if anyone hasn't seen them live, they should check them out for an entertaining show! Peace!
haha squidman, you have a point. i don't know though, just seems like he should at least be decent. he wouldn't have a career if it weren't for his fans. he'd probably be delivering pizzas. and that was a joke, so don't be offended, pizza delivery people.
Scott Lucas is totally a dick. We saw local h at the state fair and we met them after the show. The drummer was cool. Then again if i was in a rock band and people worshiped me I'd probably be a dick too.
the original was good, but i actually LOVE the remake by Local H!! they did an amazing job on this tune, just like they did on Toxic! Scott's voice is amazing... whoever doesn't think so too is tone deaf. i swear, he could sing me the names & numbers outta the phone book & i would dig it! Scott & Brian ROCK!!! Local H is my favorite band ;)

Sounds like the singer is trying too hard to be different, but then he just gives up. I really don't see what's so great about this band. I've always thought they were over-rated. Unless they really got something going on, 2-man bands tend to stink.
Local H overrated? thats a laugh seeing that they are one of the most overlooked and underrated bands ever. What other band makes up the lack of a bass player by having the singer/guitarist put bass pickups in his guitar? none. Local H has always been unique by being just a duo. I didn't know that you could judge how good a band is just by the number of members they have.

It's just been my experience that 2 man bands arent really that great in general. That's just one more thing they have against them, in my opinion. And just because a magazine says they are overlooked and underrated, doesnt mean they actually are. I didn't know you could judge how good a band is by the guitarist having bass pickups on his guitar or how "unique" they are.
now you're twisting my words. Being a two piece band works in Local H's favor, it shows how talented Scott Lucas is by being able to combine both guitar and bass at once by himself. I didn't have to get that "overlooked and underrated" line from a magazine, thats exactly what they are. Local H should have been huge when they released their album "As Good As Dead" but are still unknown to most rock fans and thats a shame.
Um yeah, didn't you twist my words in your reply? Hmm yes you actually did. And yeah sure, the guy is talented, but don't forget that the only reason he combined the two was because he couldn't find anyone to play bass in his band. And considering some of the stories I've heard about him, and my own experience seeing his band live, I'm not really surprised.
@samurai5625 their impressing because its only two people playing that music, Scott writes his own music and does a lot of covers and i havent found a song from them i havent liked yet its hard to beleive thats only two people
@samurai5625 blame their lack of appreciation on the label they were on. it got sold right when pack up the cats was released. they basically got overlooked by the new label and got no promotion or anything like it. really does suck for them, because htey would have been huge.
@samurai5625 When I listen to the radio and they play 90s music I often find myself at a loss. I love NIN, Tool, and Pearl Jam. And then you get the Nirvana fans. But how often do you hear Local H? Or Stabbing Westward, Filter, Sponge, Faith No More, Our Lady Peace... or any of the other really great bands that seem to have been forgotten in such a short time?
@samurai5625 its not that they are overlooked and underrated, they are just a band that stays true to their roots. rather than get mad famous and sell out enourmous stadiums, they would rather to cheap and free shows around the local chicago area because they stay true to their fans. they dont sell-out for the money. they do it for the experience and for the bands. a true band that embraces the real meaning of music. not something you see nowadays. local h is the best band ever for that.
@samurai5625 putting bass pickups in a guitar has very little to do with mimicking a bass guitar on a real guitar. for your information: scott lucas uses a loop pedal and has a dual output along with other things. A bass pickup is a very small piece that makes VERY LITTLE difference. You can mimick a bass without using a bass pickup. me and a friend build guitars and a bass pickup makes very little difference. a bass pickup is much the same as using a neck humbucker which is a guitar pickup.
That guitar at around 0:54 is fucking awesome. I remember having those little green stickers with the angry faces all over the telephone in my kitchen years ago. ESP is a great company. The Tossers rock. Local H is awesome. I love that guitar so fucking much, I'd have sex with it....
Oh, this cover is really good too. I prefer it to the original, but I heard it first, so ah well.
i rekon this cover sounds too similar to the original to say if its better or worse. i really cant distiguish any originality in this cover. but other than that it is a pretty sweet cover for an awesome song
their version seems a bit more punk rock which is a cool spin on such a great tune

Can't but agree. It's good, but yeah, incomparable to the original masterpiece.
