In a parliamentary democracy when a coalition forms each party that joins into the coalition is it's own distinct entity. The NDP, the Liberals would be jointly in this coalition - they would not be a new party. The whole reason this is happening is because the MP's we voted into office lost confidence in Harper. What this whole fiasco tells me is we need a new system. Because Canadians for a large part have no understanding of our parliament.

That is most likely what triggered their loss in confidence - yes. I don't know about you but I would prefer the only thing a party get's out of me is my vote. We don't need politicians rallying for fundraising dollars. The fact of the matter is I lost my confidence in Harper well before that. Not that the opposition parties are any better. But the fact is in our system (parliamentary democracy) the way they went about this coalition is perfectly reasonable.

Further more a coalition does not mean the parties join to form one party. It means that they will work together to run the country.
