I do agree that he Dion was a little weak, and was not able to handle the harsh offense of the cons. It is war to the cons, and they hard on the offensive to keep you off-balance, so the Libs must arm themselves in the same manner (i mean have dirt on the cons and be willing to use it). The Liberals need to start to fight dirty... Fight fire with fire.
I dont want another 400million thrown away for a election that Stephen Harper wants RIGHT AFTER THE LAST BULLSHIT ELECTION. Canada's economy also doesn't want that loss of money as it has officialy entered a recession under Stephen Harper.
Stephen Harper triggered this entire mess and I say good riddance, he has rode this country like a rollercoaster and I want off.
I wan't a progressive government for progressive times.
you need a reality check. Harper wanted to stop the PUBLIC FUNDING from tax $ which I completely agree with..we pay enough taxes & I'd rather have it in my pocket then the govts.FIBs mismanaged & squandered there money so they felt threatened(btw we pay for these funds bs Fiberal Chretien wanted to annihilate the PC party as the FIBS were the main political party then...So once again hypocritical liberal party. They shouldbe called the HLP
As for this recession expert economist/financial wizards said we were fine & now they have changed their tune..The media likes to play 'the sky is falling'why bcs it's more dramatic & sells their paper..this inturn has ppl panicing & wanting to not spend..Canada is at 6% unemployment rate which is usually standard..The US is 6.7 % a depression is 30 %..Canada is still doing better then most countries
so you would prefer the coalition of 3 stooges who immediately signed a 30 billion $ stimulus with no thought or real planning..The CAW union were waiting in the wings for their corporate welfare check..They would have given them more then the 3.3 billion that is being offered now by our govt with no concessions. This was even b4 the US considered bailing them out, boy that would have been smart huh.If you consider that progressive then you have alot to learn
I'd rather spend 300 million $tohave the conservative the majority then have the coalition stooges take over & have us in such a defficit that our great great grandchildren would be paying for it..not the legacy I personally want to leave behind for futire generations
screw that its now time for all of them to step down and stay far far away for the canadian government harpper layton dion get out stay out you have all screwed the canadian people around too much it is now time for you all to get the fuck out
bring on another election & make sure the libs/NDP/BQ are down as one entity then we'll see who will have the majority...put your money where your mouth is or STFU & stop wasting our time with your immature childish behaviour & try to put the ppls interest ahead of your own ..coalition of rejected losers!
stop playing with semantics! they should have put themselves under a COALITION on the ballot box, they had planned this b4 the elections was even over..they didn't, we all know bcs they would have lost big & the conservatives would have been the majority..get your head out of your ass
ppl who voted for NDP Fiberals & BQ had voted them individually not as a COALITION! put your money where your mouth is & lets have aother elections this time with TRANSPARENCY!
In a parliamentary democracy when a coalition forms each party that joins into the coalition is it's own distinct entity. The NDP, the Liberals would be jointly in this coalition - they would not be a new party. The whole reason this is happening is because the MP's we voted into office lost confidence in Harper. What this whole fiasco tells me is we need a new system. Because Canadians for a large part have no understanding of our parliament.
lost confidance in harper lol...that is one of the biggest jokes, it had more to do with the party funding then anything else..making back door deals with other party's who didn't even share the same platform ie DION saying he would never join a coaition back in sept/oct..
That is most likely what triggered their loss in confidence - yes. I don't know about you but I would prefer the only thing a party get's out of me is my vote. We don't need politicians rallying for fundraising dollars. The fact of the matter is I lost my confidence in Harper well before that. Not that the opposition parties are any better. But the fact is in our system (parliamentary democracy) the way they went about this coalition is perfectly reasonable.
Further more a coalition does not mean the parties join to form one party. It means that they will work together to run the country. All this rhetoric about it being a 'coup' or 'undemocratic' is ridiculous. It's the way our system is set up - it's the way our system has always been set up. Pretending any different and using rhetoric to attack the other parties insults our intelligence.
so does the rhetoric of the coalition group, is it legal yes but moral NO! the 3 stooges instigated this whole debacle & was supported by ppl who are looking for hand outs. I am frnakly tired of this sense of entitlement from private & public sectors
Well then why not rally against the system, which is set up in a way for this to happen - instead of focusing on three politicians who are using the system properly the way it's been designed. By the sounds of it you let all the rhetoric shape your views as well.
the 3 stooges of parliament hill..what noble characters lmao..layton would sell his own mother to get power, Dion is weak & liberals are notorious for wasting/stealing tax $ & is about to get thrown out of his own party, Duseppe is just out for Quebec...yeah what a bunch of winners to lead Canada, they couldn't lead a dog around for god sakes...the only ones supporting them are the ones looking for hand outs ie UNION MEMBERS...all about self interest & not the majority of the ppl in Canada
Liberals have not grasped that when a nation dies, that nations culture and institutions always perish with it.When European-Canadian people finally become an ethnic minority in this land sometime in the future, and our grip is pried from the levers of power through sheer weight of demography, the values of the Liberal elite will be swept away by the monster they have themselves created.
Conservative or liberal, either way we're skrewed.
lol.... If the coalition gets to govern, there will be riot in a conservative dominated cities..haha The next thing Harper is going to do is take advantage of the chaos by declaring War Measures Act?(another word for Martial Law) That way he retains power. that's ugly
Coalition govts bad and not elected by public-beware!
On 30 January 1933 Adolf Hitler appointed chancellor of a coalition government of the NSDAP-DNVP-Centre Party. The SA and SS led torchlight parades throughout Berlin. In the coalition government three members of the cabinet were Nazis: Hitler, Wilhelm Frick (Minister of the Interior) and Hermann Göring (Minister Without Portfolio).
With Germans who opposed Nazism failing to unite against it, Hitler moved to consolidate absolute power.
PERFECT HARPER!! YOU GENIUS!! OK this is what you is what you do next.Implement the War Measures Act. Next you make a list of all the people who oppose you. you call up CISIS and tell them to blackbag them and send them to some Artic deathcamp. Next. you call up the military and declare martial law. Speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi, also flies around in corporate jets with our tax payer dollars. WHAT A HYPOCRITE. Why not fly commercial, jetblue has good deals. SAVE MONEY. I'm cutting back, my govt should too. I mean the US Govt is in TRILLION DOLLARS OF DEBT. PRETTY SOON WE'LL HAVE TO BAIL OUT THE GOVT IF THEY DON'T STOP BAILING OUT DEFUNCT CO. I'm telling Congress do not waste our tax payer dollars.

This is an embarrassment to our country internationally,... are we in high school? We couldn't win on our own so we are going to gang up & try and take over. If the Dion wants to work together so badly, why doesn't he try working with the elected government. Oh... wait a minute... last I heard Dion was resigning.... oh, now he wants to take over... this is a total disgrace for all canadians!

If they want to work together why don't they form one party to work under??? .. because they wouldn't be able to agree... so its a redundant idea.
You are oblivious to the concept of Parliamentary Govt. Wher ver school you went in should be close for it forgot to teach you the system of Parliament. Is it constitutional? Is it allowed in a Parliamentary system?? All answer is YES!!and if you think otherwise...youre a RETARD!!
Fact is, the forming of a Coalition gov't is well within the "rules" of our system. Of course everyone will have their own opinion on the issue; we will have to move forward, whatever happens.
What is happening in Ottawa is nothing short of criminal! Canadians, by majority elected our Conservative government less than 8 weeks ago - WE, THE PEOPLE elected OUR government and thus, OUR prime minister. Period. There was NO COALITION PARTY ON THE BALLOT!!!
The coalition is nothing more than a cheap attempt on behalf of 3 bumbling morons to serve their own personal political agendas.
This coalition is not in the best interest of our nation at all...nor are the motives of it's leaders.

Being not one of the group of people that you are reffering as the left, I will say this to you that as a non-partisan. Coalition Govt is better than Minority in so many ways:
1)Election will be set for they have an 3 party agreement of time where the Parliament will be dissolve
2)No more wasting of millions of $ for election that can happen anytime..multiple times under a Minority
3) Parliament will work for us bec. they have majority and therefore no political Grandstanding

The LIES out of his mouth, it is unreal. The Cons removed all aspects the opposition opposed to and still they have proceeded to take over the country.
If Stephane Dion becomes the New Prime Minister Of Canada after the Election even though i did not Vote Liberal i will except him democratically as our Prime Minister.
Sorry, I'm not calling an election. I will follow Westminster parliamentary precedent and allow the oppostion to put together a government. As a result of your ignorance to the workings of the Canadian government I, as Governor General, have asked YouTube to close your account; so you can spend more time learning how great parliamentary democracy is.
Let the libs, NDP and BQ have thier day in the sun, when thier coalition falls apart (sooner rather than later) they will have lost the vote in all English Canada but Toronto, and they will have lost the federalist Quebec vote. This WILL RUIN the LIBERAL PARTY.
Canada voted for a government. Since Harper can't, the opposition has been forced to. It did not have to be this way. In less than 4 years Harper has managed to unite both the right AND left. Good job Steve!
Harper will continue to not do anything in this critical time. I trust 3 partys in which I support some of their platforms, over a party that I do not support in anyway. LOOk at the facts people before you assume you know everything by watching youtube and TV. Conservative party only has 34% of canadian voters support it only makes sense to form a coalition.
HOLLY SHIT PEOPLE , CAN YOU NOT SEE WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS REALLY DOING????? we need this! I cannot continue to watch the undemocratic conservative party ruin our economy and our multiparty system! It is representing our responsible government, This decision will be elected they cant simply overturn the government that is not whats happening.
OMG! I can't even fathom him as our leader! If that's how they have to win elections by just "overturning" the decision of the people - then so be it - that's the kind of govt we'll be getting - I feel so (tear) proud!! This is the end of Canada as we know it - so much for democracy. Bringt back our troops - not much for them to be fighting for now!
I'm from Ontario, trust me once you leave Toronto city limits liberal and NDP support plummets, and i dont live in toronto, trust me this is a good thing, the liberals have just sealed thier own fate
And of course being that the CBC is based in Ontario, they are going to slant this entire overthrow of the elected Canadian government as a good thing.
What else can anyone expect from anything on Ontario.
Ha, I love it, I really hope Harper calls thier bluff, either the coalition works (briefly) and Canadians see that the Libs & NDP are in bed with separatists, or coalition fails and Libs look like loosers who brought down a legitimate government, either way this will WRECK the liberal party for the forseeable future at least in most of English Canada (exception being Toronto), and who knows it may even swing federalist Quebec voters to the evil, horrible, nazi, baby-eating conservatives.GOHARPER
Conservatives SHOULD have taken more action on the economy, they had it coming.
But I like how the new "coalition" said Harpers cuts for ALL parties (including Tories) were "undemocratic"
While the Libs/NDP said "fuck our voters" by trying to form a NEW government without the consent of Liberal/NDP voters...just for power. They're all assholes.
Im glad I moved to Britain. Even though the politicians here aren't much better :(
oh canada we (liberals) stand on guard of thee (with Canada against tories)....lol conservatism is a totally failed ideology especially after bush which idiot wants to be a conservative.
Ignatieff PM, Layton VP, Rae at foreign affairs, Goodale at finance? seems like political fiction, but could become reality by next monday... my gut feeling is that Harper will end the session early, call it a game, and start again on Jan.27 to buy more time...
A leaderless party, a socialist party, and a separatist party are going to form a coalition to convince an appointed civil servant to put them in power without an election because they don't want to have to fund raise?
Oh ya, and the Prime Minister is either going to be a guy nobody respects or somebody the LPC hand picked. Either way, it's somebody the Canadians didn't vote for.
This is arguably the MOST anti-democratic moment in Canadian history.
Libs will follow through if and only if they can secure iggy as leader before dec.8. the ndp is left of center, calling them socialist merits that we call the Cons fascists. (lets leave the rhetoric outside). the bloc will NOT be in the coalition, simply approve on issue by issue any governement bill that comes to a vote whether it is from a con govt or a ndp/lib. (the cons survived a few times thanks to a separatist party)
The NDP are socialists. Look at their policies. As for Iggy, he's never led a party and Canadians never got a say as to whether he should be PM or not. This is undemocratic.
Actually this is the "most" Democratic moment in Canadian history because this maneuvering is mandated by the Canadian Constitution under a Parliamentary form of Govt. Check and Balance is working for the country. This is unprecedented political act ever and it is a legitimate political coup-de-etat.
i might agree with you on some points. I have difficulty in accepting the assertion that a socialist party is in a way a bad thing. The NDP and Liberals together brought forth some of our most cherished institutions Medicare, Social Security. I am rather eager to see what the NDP has to offer in government. Dion is not liked but i still respect his politics (except for the clarity act) that was in another time and place. as for legitimacy, it's definately a grey zone...
An retired American Politician once said to me there is no one more intolerant of differing opinions than the liberals. From the looks of most of the left leaning posting on youtube he certainly made a valid point. I
Guess the oppostion is drooling at the mouth at the chance to take parliament. Voters be damned. Just can't stand not being in power. Just think the Bloc can sit on the government side in the house. I love this country we and at this rate the rest of the word is not going to think too well for us. Investors may flee and our Canadian stocks can crash. But so what as long as the great "Evil One" is defeated. Harper is the only statesman among this shrill bunch of hyenas.
Make no mistake, Harper has not taken his eye off majority government. He cares not for governing but loves to be in charge. This makes him the worst type of leader in a democratic system. Those that rejoice in power and control care not for the justice of legislative focus. Welcome any opportunity to rid ourselves of this viper, who would be king.
We just spent 300 million of our record oil revenues (taxes) having an election where the average Canadian must admit they were lied to repeatedly.
Now the same person who wanted to spend this money for a chance at more power wants to save 30 million by taking power away from other political parties?
You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.
Oil companies making almost 14 billion profit in 3 months and the government is pretending that they need to save 30 million.
I do agree that he Dion was a little weak, and was not able to handle the harsh offense of the cons. Honorable Governor General Michelle Jean:
Call a Federal Election.
If Stephane Dion becomes the New Prime Minister Of Canada after the Election even though i did not Vote Liberal i will except him democratically as our Prime Minister.
NeedJustJesus 3 years ago
Dear N.J.J.,
Sorry, I'm not calling an election. I will follow Westminster parliamentary precedent and allow the oppostion to put together a government. As a result of your ignorance to the workings of the Canadian government I, as Governor General, have asked YouTube to close your account; so you can spend more time learning how great parliamentary democracy is.
Chow,
GG Jean

Stupid liberals teamed up with the separatists to overthrow the government
its not going to work

Conservatives were also willing to team up with the separatists in 2004 to defeat the Martin government.

It is representing our responsible government, This decision will be elected they cant simply overturn the government that is not whats happening.
singskate 3 years ago

Even though the politicians here aren't much better :(
Whatever happened to the Churchills/Roosevelts?

This is arguably the MOST anti-democratic moment in Canadian history.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
Libs will follow through if and only if they can secure iggy as leader before dec.8. the ndp is left of center, calling them socialist merits that we call the Cons fascists. (lets leave the rhetoric outside). the bloc will NOT be in the coalition, simply approve on issue by issue any governement bill that comes to a vote whether it is from a con govt or a ndp/lib. (the cons survived a few times thanks to a separatist party)
violonaz 3 years ago
The NDP are socialists. Look at their policies. As for Iggy, he's never led a party and Canadians never got a say as to whether he should be PM or not. This is undemocratic.
thunderflash82 3 years ago

Pooby43 3 years ago

Give me a break.
