maybe it will one day i think the subscriptions to like netflix music unlimited from ps3 and others a like are going to help the people who can't afford those $30 per movie and $20 per cd sells out. meybe then piracy will stop if they find a way like chris said to help the consumer get what the seller is selling in an easier way but other than that its never going to stop they will just find a new way to do it.
piracy aids alot more than you think and is very important for the economy... it helps set a standard for people who over charge. it helps the little guys the big guys normally stomp out of existence. As in pirating copywritten material? Nah...that only occurs when u offer ur client a grabage service or try to over charge for something thats not as valuable.. i can pirate my games easly but i actually pay for them on steam. Games that are no longer in production is another story...
i belive all of you are being greatly influenced by the take downs of websites, and by fear propeganda wich tells you that you are evil for signing into a service and downloading. im an artist and i see the importance of piracy. I dont let the rich and powerful strike fear down my spine. They loose revenue becuase they give a bad product and are to cocky to admit theyre service sucks so ppl steal from them. Apple iTunes, Steam, Google+ Music all got with the program and offered a better service.
@MasSergioVEVO i agree with the new sites who offer subscriptions or pay per song instead of the whole album really helps out but i think maybe one day in the future when this websites expand even more piracay maybe won't be an issue any more but until then i doubt it. I just think it's stupid if they didn't want people to pirate there stuff why even create mp3s files sharing websites cd burners software that helps
@LaughNowCryLater323 hellz yeah dude im a steam user... i purchase my games for download, why? it saves me gas, no lines, and i get cheaper prices becuase guess what? I ACTUALLY SAVE COMPANIES MONEY! how? DVDs CDs cost $! when u download stuff u eliminate costs its more efficient. AS for artists, CD vs Media sharing sites(like youtube or mp3 streaming)=FREE promotion vs burning 100 CDs and giving them out or trying to sell them. PIRACY IS GR8 DNT LET ANYONE TELL U OTHERWISE!
@LaughNowCryLater323 btw this is all comming from an artist musics on my page you can check it out if u wana confirm, dont care if u like my music or not, but guess what? did writting u a comment like that cost me a dime? not a penny vs giving you a CD or soiciting to u on the street and buggin you for $5(to hopefully) make up for the costs and time wasted in purchasing/burning Demo CDs... see what i mean? Corporations r 2 busy fighting theyre client to notice theyre wrong.
@LaughNowCryLater323 whats costing the media corporations joblosses isn't piracy its the fact nobody wants to buy from them anymore cuz theyre pricks... read the comments on other sopa pages i recall reading comments like "if sopa passes im uploading 50 trojans to viacom wmg website and downloading all the porn and movies 24/7" imagine being sued for over 150G of course u will not give a shit abt the company thats bad reputation and business practices. 1 song = 99c not $150G
@MasSergioVEVO burn cds dvds and the legal sell of dvds cds bcds i mean they gave them the tools they needed they even teach you in school how to really work a computer and change files that are copywritten. I mean go as far enough as why even invent computers lol but thats just me. they gave them the tools so why complain?
AGAIN WE THE CLIENT NOT THE BUSINESS are offering more solutions that is not my job or my problem nor is it a problem for them AT ALL its a lie.. we don't get payed to say or write
Pirated DVDs? What of "RedBOX" (popular DVD rental/purchase machine in many cities and walmarts)... pirated games, again Steam, redbox(also offers games for rent/purchase)
IT IS NOT MY JOB TO PROVIDE SUCH BASIC ANSWERS TO SUCH A FALSE PROBLEM... theyre not doing theyre jobs
@LaughNowCryLater323 i saw a guy that had to *illegaly* crack a purchased PC game.... becuase its copyprotection methods (that were easily cracked with a simple download) blocked the computer from properly accessing the disc.... here check it out.. just goes to show copyprotection and whineing is the only problem big companies have cuz its a problem they created by burdening the end user. Peace. Select, then rightclick, select search in google click vid-> watch?v=mt4BpnfAN-o
piracy is good for certain reasons > it allows small software developers under the GPL (freeware) license to distribute theyre software to the masses. It also allows for unkown artists and known artists to get great promotion and be heard all over. Fans will buy the cd if they like the particular artist, trust me....they will buy it one way or another. Theres ppl who pirate just to take but piracy like bittorrent, upload sharing sites, are more beneficial than harm for GPL.
I support piracy because there is some stuff that is very useful to me and I"m sure to many others like me, but I don't have the money to afford it. Music? bah thats petty stuff. I can pay for that. But I can't afford 700 dollar photoshop software, or 300 music software that I desperately need. And also because I hate those fucking corporate fat cats who care about nothing but more money. They price things so fucking ridiculously high, and they complain why people are not buying their product?
see... what they fail to relize is if they were to sell expensive programs like that for $20 per unit and include all the features you need (plugins and so forth) making it easy and useful for you "out of the box" that they would make so much more money than making something $700 a box and selling it to a few private sector companies vs cheap and world wide.
@MasSergioVEVO I agree with that statement. If all these programs were priced reasonably, the thousands upon thousands of people who pirated it, would instead buy it, therefore the company is making more money that just a few hundred buying the ridiculously high priced product. There would be more demand for that product and similar products, essentially increasing their profit margin.
the problem with this method of thinking, wich theyre to ingorant to break the cycle and here u are, the user not the company rep, offering a solution to a problem wich is theres not urs so ur doing theyre job and theyre not working for you at all, the problem is they want to monopolize, example FL Studio cost several hundred dollars, any good plugin can range from $80-$1,000 (1 grand for a bunch of audio files is bullshit). They make it difficult for u to use it.
@th00nega i mean u can get a program, but then to make real good use of it, u have to shell out thousands of $ more on plugins and stuff... that really ffs should have been included with the program itself. The reason it isn't... cuz its a way to rip you off... its robbery. if FL Studio is about $300 for some XXL Producer edition then that shit should come complete and do something like make the fucking beat for me cuz after paying $300+Taxes im not gona feel like making jack.
@th00negative1 i took business administration in college and one thing i learned from working at many different places and my studies is DON'T EVER EVER MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT FOR THE CLIENT... you want things to be as easy as possible for the client (who pays you todo something becuase they dont want to do it themselves or u have a product they want)... never complicate things, never make using ur prodcut difficult, and always tell them how to use it(app wise make the app tell u)
Also, Chris, you do know DRM isn't at all about piracy right? Hollywood, years ago admitted DRM wasn't at all about stopping piracy. It was about taking our rights away (Fair Use) and making us buy it back.
Chris, that wasn't piracy. That was called Fair Use. We were allowed to once make 2 copies of any 8-track, ablum/tape/CD we bought and owned, and give to our friends. Then they each likewise could make two copies. It was to spread the art to many many people in hopes they'd buy it.
Most games never came to the States, that's why people tend to pirate the most besides movies, music, comics, and tv shows, how many games have never saw a debut here? How many are so awesome that you want to play but you can't afford it, let's see, for console games, you have to buy the game you want that's foreign, the system to run it, memory card if it needs any, most of all you need something to make it work because of the sparse wattage range.
The only motive i use piracy right now is because here there are no easy way to buy music iTunes, and a lot of subscription services just dont work here, and iam not going to leave the confort of my home to spend 50% much in taxes just to buy a fisical media,IF THEY MADE IT EASY I WILL BUY,like i do with Netflix,or any other service online..
why does you tube become profitable ... or Facebook , yet are FREE services and yes I know through advertisements. Why don't movie companies make movies available as in new releases ON-LINE as pay to view. Most folks cant afford to rather expensive trip to the movies when you counter in concession costs as well. its true, the costs of an old system is higher yet the like of RIAA and MPAA cling onto their distro methods because it made them money until digital distro took off.
I listen to alot of japanese songs, and play alot of japanese rhythm games. Its not too easy for me to buy online, and the stuff is almost NEVER in any stores near me. the only option I have left is to pirate that content. but the moment I see anything ive pirated in a store, I go ahead and buy it because not giving back means the end of the creator of the content
I'd love to give back and I do whenever I can but with the current economy i still want entertainment, however everything get's more expensive, and the salary stays the same, the giving get's less and less and the pirated stuff will stay more and more.
**** our goverment here, they ramping up a lot of prices and taxes, breaking our economy down.
I really don't see how SOPA would let them enforce copyrights in other countries, how would it shut down piratebay, for example? American lawmakers can only make american laws, wouldn't there have to be some UN treaty or something
What money does a company lose from someone who would not have bought the media anyway had they not been able to pirate it? Think about when you download a tv series, when you could do the same by recording it everyday until you have the complete series (which they don't care if you do), what is the difference?
@thesnare100 I think it's because you're less likely to try to pirate shows and stuff, but not trying to implicate anyone.. DirectTV's boxes allow you to burn shows or movies to DVDs if you have it hook up to a DVD player and have a blank disc in it, that was how I was able to get a movie that never had a DVD release and rarely plays (Aka, The Scream Team)> I think it's merely subjective.
I wonder actually if piracy is beneficial to companies. Think about them winning a 300K lawsuit for someone downloading 24 songs, the equivalent money as if they had bought 20K $15 CD's. Just like it was beneficial for AOL to let their customers get spammed so they could sue them and make money.
However the effect of piracy can be brought to nearly 0 if the legitimate service becomes better.
As Valve has put, Piracy is a service problem. The majority of consumers won't steal if the products they want are available, affordable and most importantly easy to purchase.
What major entertainment studios don't get is that people steal from them because their products are too hard too get from legitimate means and too expensive due to bad economy.
At first, I pirated minecraft because I didn't know about it at all ( It wasn't very known at that time ), but I ended up buying it and making 2 other peoples buy it, piracy made Notch a bit richer!
pirated deus ex for pc, i love it so much that once it drops down to a decent amount of money im a buy it for my brother to play, and so i feel like i'm giving money where money is due
I download music and movies, and if i like them ill buy them. But im not gonna spend my money (the little that i have) on somthing that i might not like.
I reply on piracy for music, movies, software etc. I get £30 a week from college therefore I don't have enough disposable income for these luxuries. Without piracy my life would be incredibly boring.
When it comes to TV-series, I download it by way of piracy torrents. I live outside the US, so I don't want to spend loads of money etc on it. I might download a few episodes, and if I really like it (for example Big Bang Theory), I'll maybe buy a season or two, or fan shirts etc. If I'd have to buy the show in the first place, I'd NEVER spend a single buck on it. Really. No way I'm paying for something I don't know what is.
I should probably give abit more back, but hey, some or nothing?
@Experin Yeah I'm in the same boat... I also live outside US and the TV shows that being shown on local cable is lagging severely, so I opted to download torrents so I can watch it now.. The tv shows I downloaded mostly, if not all, will eventually aired in TV anyways.. So I pirated to watch it in advance..
I don't pirate music anymore.. I bought the ones I like and listen from grooveshark for others. Same goes for video games..
@dziggify Yeah, I don't pirate music anymore either. I've used Spotify since the beta release several years ago, and the few songs that are not available at spotify I buy with iTunes and sync it with spotify.
I only play multiplayer when it comes to video games, so buying the the is kinda crucial.
You've got a point when it comes to ''speeding up the process''. I switch channels during commercial breaks, so TV or piracy torrent is equal - exepct with torrent you get it weeks before its aired.
I think the business model trent reznor and radiohead created works. Offering limited edition packages and lower packages for purchase. from $8 to $300. it works.
Without piracy I would not be able to afford to create any of the content I do. Its just too expensive for me, a student, to pay for Windows, Office, CS5, and so on. I buy reasonably priced software, such as Bins. I paid the $5, and was happy to give the money away. Same with Android, I pay for nearly all of my apps.
Consumers need to wake up and stop sharing stuff they see on tv. They need to start to consume open source or free products and share them. Licenses are to be respected, dont violate it. And don't be lazy to make one.
If ppl stop pirating, they will turn to cheaper alternatives or make their own musics. Piracy is not just hurting the producers of contents that's being pirated, but also local economies. Talented people in the third world countries may think that being an artists or a programmer is not so profitable, do you want to be like that America. Piracy is a form of ungratefulness.
This is how I look at this. There are DJ's Out there and they them selves go Pirate ok, And it is the best way of doing that. Now There are people will agree & disagree with this here. (But in say that title to their Opinion. I forgot who said this to me, going Pirate is the best way. Why? That is where your either get Listeners Or Viewers, and that is where people start talking about you.
NUmber one software I find to be the most pirated....Adobe Photoshop Extended CS(w/e it is now lol)
Why?....1000....fucking.....bucks....really? When companies start pricing their software PROPERLY....say sell regular photoshop for like 100 and extended for like 250-350 bucks....you would see it being pirated less.
WIndows is another one. 100 bucks for a BASIC OS. completely overpriced and Idk what was invested into it and bla bla bla. a basic OS should be at lease less then 50. nuff said.
The main problem here is that many people & the producers don't see eye-to-eye on the value of the media. For example, I love my AppleTV, but $5 for a 720p rental of a movie is outrageous when RedBox offers Blu-Ray quality movies for $1.49. Also, it's been pointed out that some eBooks cost more than printed versions. Or maybe I'd like to show my friend a clip of a show I enjoy, but I can't because it's locked to my iTunes. It's just painfully stupid!
priracy will die in the distant future? haha... bs.. watch pirates of the carribean they existed before the internet and the future ha.. pirates will always exist and people will always support them becuz they stand against the corporate model of greed and corruption its like fighting fire with fire both parties usually get burned some way or another, industry profit loss, pirates sued arrested for profit loss. BOTH PIRATES [ONLY IN CERTAIN OCCASIONS] AND [GREEDY] CORPORATIONS DO US ALL HARM!
btw i am a artist and i totally support piracy of any of MY music. It is the best promotion people in other countries that dont have ur content available can have easy acess and it spreads ur talent around the world. I belive in open source alot and sharing. I'm an artist and piracy DOES NOT effect me what so ever in a negative way. Thats all corporate bs. It actually promotes the industry bcuz its sort of a "try before you buy" kind of thing. Industry = Greedy execs dont support them lol
@MasSergioVEVO if you allowed the piracy then its not piracy its open source. Piracy is when you provided no license about it. Would you put your music in public domain?
let me quote Cartoon Network (Adult Swim) "Piracy helps the economy" hahahahahahaha yes they wrote that on theyre screen captions during anime intervals during the Blue Gender series. i forgot how they worded it but they wrote it provides food for families. Piracy is a good thing when used correctly to distribute rare goods or applications files etc that are no longer in circulation fan projects or things like applications that are open source and good and not illegal to spread.
Nice video Chris I use Spotify a lot now, I used to download all my music until this easy and cheap alternative came up I love using it, If only they did the same with films and games I know there is steam but is seems that new games are more expensive on there than buying it from a shop or Amazon sometimes, same goes for DVD's they are way over priced from most shops, I also don't want hundreds of disks lying around that I might watch once then never again, that happened to me with VHS tapes.
I pay a very few for digital music/records but i pay at least 500€ a year for concerts and festivals . I think this is the good way to support artists, not majors like universal or others.
I think subscription services are the future of media. Right now Spotify and other places offer millions of dollars worth of media for around 10 dollars a month. I think spotify has the best system, if you don't want to pay don't but you have to listen to commercials if you do want to pay great. You now can listen to it on your devices and no commercials. Netflix has done a great job to. Now to current tv. Hulu plus fails imo, i don't pay money for commercials. There is no reason to pay
Not all of us can afford what you can Chris! I have 300 songs, all illegal. That would have cost me £300! If I couldn't illegally download them I wouldn't buy them anyway! So they're not loosing or gaining any money!
If they do away with piracy, then all games and software needs demos/trials and all media/music needs to be available in very low resolution and very low audio quality for evaluation.
@lockergnome i think piracy is a good thing in a way if you end up liking an artists album that much you will end up buying there album which I did recently with Coldplay that I'm not even a fan of
the more the unnecessary restrictions, the more ways people ll try to infiltrate the system and pirate something, but i do respect price n value of goods n services and what is to be paid shud be paid fair price
To the very last thing you said that is very true. I used to do that but because I'm broke all the time I have just started streaming in spotify. I do intend on buying most of what I listen to when I have money though.
I rely on piracy. I'll pirate something and if I like it, I'll buy a legit copy but if I don't - I delete it. I don't have money to waste on games or software that ultimately suck and fill me with regret after. It's the same deal with movies and music.
One thing that software publishers need to do more often is make trial versions of they products.
Software is very expensive, you can't just go and gamble 100+ dollars on games and applications, so people pirate it to try it out. It's not to be malicious or un-grateful.
Windows Phone 7 actually embraces this and it's why EVERY paid app has trial software. It's a great model that even Apple should embrace.
Agreed. If I go back to the gaming front, not every dev/publisher releases a demo of their game/s - for example Ubisoft and their Assassin's Creed franchise, Rock Steady and Batman: Arkham Franchise.
I did the rare thing of pre-ordering Batman: Arkham City for PC and got slapped in the face by multiple issues that meant I couldn't play it for a while after it arrived at my door. I pirated Assassin's Creed: Revelations, played it for a few hours then went out and bought a copy the next day.
Like Chris pointed out in this video, its a way to give something I back. I'd feel guilty for not giving something back and while I can't speak for everyone - that's why I do cough up cash even if I already have a digital copy or two in possession and I like it.
Then there are things like multiplayer and bonus content just to name a few that are lacking with pirated material as well as many other reasons.
People pirate PC games because a lot of the high profile PC games has DRM that makes the game run worst. The pirated version takes the DRM off and makes the game run fine. Same thing with music, why pay for music online when they had DRM on them. I use the Zune Marketplace and still use the $15 a month service where I can listen to anything on the service and keep 10 songs a month, its easy to discover new music and still able to keep the songs I like DRM free and can just upload to google music
Their needs to be a legalized torrent system. , where companies put up legal high quality material, and require a small subscription fee , or hell make it free , and just use advertising for profits. I love the band sum 41 , and admittly i have stolen 1 of their albums , but after that one , i bought the other 5 , and I am a huge fan and go to their concerts all the time. There needs to be a system creators of content make the content easily and cheaply available to the public to consume
Piracy will die when we decide to re-think the whole notion of intellectual property, information yearns to be free and there are ways to satisfy the artist and the consumer. SOPA/PIPA is the result of an old industry clinging to an outmoded paradigm and will spell the end of the internet as we know it.
Piracy is the result of software being extremely overpriced. Does Adobe really expect more people to buy Photoshop for hundreds of dollars? In this economy, people will choose to just download for free. And when it comes to music, studies have shown that piracy HELPS bands get more notice and their sales increase, along with their concert ticket sales. A lot of famous bands/artists today are outspoken in favor of piracy.
piracy should be alive for countries like bangladesh india srilanka where people cant afford to buy original software..people on average earn less than a $1 in those countries per day!
also i believe movies should be pirated more because it doesnt hurt anyone..i mean they pay 50 million to one actor to act in a movie!! and todays music is just crap nobody should buy music nowadays!!
Piracy reminds me of this joke: A barber is talking to a customer when a boy walks in.The barber tells the customer, "This kid is stupid, check this out." The barber then puts a dollar bill on one hand and 2 quarters on the other. He asks the kid which one he wanted, and the kid takes the coins and leaves to wait outside. The barber says he does this every day. The costumer asks the kid outside why does he take the coins and the kid says, " Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over."
What I do is I usually download a movie to see if I like it instead of buying it first. Then if it's great I go to Walmart or my local movie store and buy it, because I don't like to lug my computer down to my home theater to watch a movie
Thank you Chris. I am a copyright advocate since it has been a foundation of my business for over 30 years (professional artist) and you are right. Anyone who dislikes this video didn't watch it to the very end. But I must also comment on the comments here:
Chris is not advocating piracy. He states "sharing is everything, as long as you are giving back".
I had sent this to chris, but i will put it here for everybody else to read , and this is from the view of soembody that was a person that was one fo those that released films on the net scribd.com/doc/76156718/Piracy-Guide-to-How-It-Can-Work-for-All
though not everyone will think like that and they just take and never give back or even think of doing so no matter how much they like the app and if you where in the owners shoes its not nice losing so much cash due to people stealing work that you spend endless months/years creating
some apps/games you dont know if you will like them and why should you pay out so much money only to find out that you hate it? when some times there are no trial versions or anything to download so you try out the app/game and you end up buying it if you use it a lot and if its good
Piracy is when you attack boats with other boats with a parrot on your shoulder...Piracy is when you rape robe murder and plunder.....Sharing files is not piracy or stealing.
Piracy is the best way to create a competition with music, movie, and gaming companies. Without Piracy these companies would artificially keep prices high to maximize their profit... I am more then willing to buy cd's, but do not believe they are worth 15 euros for one or two songs on the cd that I like. But let piracy bring prices down, and people will buy cd's dvd's and games, because at the end of the day everyone prefers the real deal...
Piracy will live forever because more underdeveloped countries like mine are poor and just simply cant afford buying songs and other software and games.
I mean, if I would create an application and sell it, if it would appear on piracy download websites, it would be an honour for me. That means someone wants my software!
Piracy wont die, either by downloading over the internet or even by real life pirates. If i could have a streaming service for all the latest anime subbed and out by the next day. I would pay for it.
Has there ever been a band or movie studio or developer that split up/shut down due to piracy? Genuine question btw, I really don't know. But it seems to me piracy does so much to help the industry and very little that actually hurts it.
If the companies made it easy they wouldn't make full profit off its users. To the companies, they care more about the profit than anything else. Copyright issues, at least for artists such as Girltalk and other "remixing" artists hit the roadblock MOST of the time NOT because of the artists whose music they use, BUT rather the record labels and the publishers who want more money. There are definitely exceptions but this is generally the case.
Noting is worse than buying a $50 game that you don't like.
If I'm not sure about the game, I download the torrent. If I like it I buy it, if I don't, I'm not gonna play it.
A movie, 2 hours and 720p movie, can take about 1-2 hours to download, and it's just a search, download torrent, run it and wait. I too damn easy! plus you don't get any commercials.
And let's not forget windows 7, if I did everything legal I would have bought around 10 copies, because of tweaking with my computer, NOT FAIR!
@MGApcPro i'm right there with you when it come to windows. I wanna get a terabyte HDD but "legally" i'd have to buy another copy of windows just to transfer my data to it, and thats just stupid
@1BYEBYE1 if sopa passes it wont stop piracy, they cant 100% control the internet there are always ways around it... and if you didn't notice chris is also talking about PHYSICAL piracy mix tapes, and the like.
I'll be the first to admit right now, I do download music. However, this is done so I can try bands. If i like the band, i will go out and buy their album as i personally love owning the physical copy. If i dislike it, I remove it and I'm done with it. I'm forming a band soon, when we record, I have no problem with people sharing any demos or any albums, so long as they are willing to support me, not just share files. Downloading can be great, as a tool to get your stuff out there.
and what happen in places or countries where there is no way to get original software and music cds cost more than 100$, and buying online is not possible because of money exchange limitations. then piracy is an option?
How can u not advocate piracy when it lead u to a great band? It could lead more ppl to more good bands!

piracy is good for certain reasons > it allows small software developers under the GPL (freeware) license to distribute theyre software to the masses.

They price things so fucking ridiculously high, and they complain why people are not buying their product?
th00negative1 3 weeks ago 2
@th00negative1
see... what they fail to relize is if they were to sell expensive programs like that for $20 per unit and include all the features you need (plugins and so forth) making it easy and useful for you "out of the box" that they would make so much more money than making something $700 a box and selling it to a few private sector companies vs cheap and world wide.
MasSergioVEVO 2 weeks ago
@MasSergioVEVO I agree with that statement. If all these programs were priced reasonably, the thousands upon thousands of people who pirated it, would instead buy it, therefore the company is making more money that just a few hundred buying the ridiculously high priced product. There would be more demand for that product and similar products, essentially increasing their profit margin.
th00negative1 2 weeks ago
@th00negative1
the problem with this method of thinking, wich theyre to ingorant to break the cycle and here u are, the user not the company rep, offering a solution to a problem wich is theres not urs so ur doing theyre job and theyre not working for you at all, the problem is they want to monopolize, example FL Studio cost several hundred dollars, any good plugin can range from $80-$1,000 (1 grand for a bunch of audio files is bullshit). They make it difficult for u to use it.
MasSergioVEVO 2 weeks ago
@th00nega i mean u can get a program, but then to make real good use of it, u have to shell out thousands of $ more on plugins and stuff... that really ffs should have been included with the program itself. The reason it isn't... cuz its a way to rip you off... its robbery. if FL Studio is about $300 for some XXL Producer edition then that shit should come complete and do something like make the fucking beat for me cuz after paying $300+Taxes im not gona feel like making jack.
MasSergioVEVO 2 weeks ago

KeibearsProperty 1 month ago
Chris, that wasn't piracy. That was called Fair Use. We were allowed to once make 2 copies of any 8-track, ablum/tape/CD we bought and owned, and give to our friends. Then they each likewise could make two copies. It was to spread the art to many many people in hopes they'd buy it.
It's called piracy now by the copyright holders.

Most games never came to the States, that's why people tend to pirate the most besides movies, music, comics, and tv shows, how many games have never saw a debut here? How many are so awesome that you want to play but you can't afford it, let's see, for console games, you have to buy the game you want that's foreign, the system to run it, memory card if it needs any, most of all you need something to make it work because of the sparse wattage range.

why does you tube become profitable ... or Facebook , yet are FREE services and yes I know through advertisements.

What money does a company lose from someone who would not have bought the media anyway had they not been able to pirate it? Think about when you download a tv series, when you could do the same by recording it everyday until you have the complete series (which they don't care if you do), what is the difference?
thesnare100 1 month ago
@thesnare100 I think it's because you're less likely to try to pirate shows and stuff, but not trying to implicate anyone.. DirectTV's boxes allow you to burn shows or movies to DVDs if you have it hook up to a DVD player and have a blank disc in it, that was how I was able to get a movie that never had a DVD release and rarely plays (Aka, The Scream Team)> I think it's merely subjective.
MadMaxxieM 1 month ago
I wonder actually if piracy is beneficial to companies. Think about them winning a 300K lawsuit for someone downloading 24 songs, the equivalent money as if they had bought 20K $15 CD's. Just like it was beneficial for AOL to let their customers get spammed so they could sue them and make money.

Piracy won't ever end, that's unrealistic.

You've got a point when it comes to ''speeding up the process''. I switch channels during commercial breaks, so TV or piracy torrent is equal - exepct with torrent you get it weeks before its aired.

LordReserei01 1 month ago 43
@LordReserei01 This is a great statement.

@LordReserei01 but I wonder why people would want to buy a copy if they already have it, an avi of a show seems to be just as good as it on DVD.

LordReserei01 1 month ago

I wanna get a terabyte HDD but "legally" i'd have to buy another copy of windows just to transfer my data to it, and thats just stupid
brostinkles1 1 month ago
@brostinkles1 Personally I've had it all, upgraded harddrive, failed harddrive, raid setup, boot freeze ect.
They should really make a system that connects the copy to an account, so you can't have two of the same copy on the internet at the same time.

some people pirate games to try if they want to but the game, if the like it they but the game and support the developer

The reason for me pirating movies and some games is the simple fact I am NOT going to wait 1 year to see the same movie people in the US get. >.>

Piracy will never die. Many though would buy if it was that easy. If that makes sense.

and what happen in places or countries where there is no way to get original software and music cds cost more than 100$, and buying online is not possible because of money exchange limitations. then piracy is an option?
