  • fuck, Ryukyuan culture had been raped by Japanese culture, It should be more close to ancient Chinese culture rather than Japanese culture. We chinese should help Ryukyuan people kick out Japanese from their islands, and recover their original culture.

  • Great video, Thank you

  • @caonimazazhongtoushu, ur obviously a TROLL!!! but anyway, Ryukyuans & Ainu are their own people. They have their own culture and should be proud of that. This is not Noh at all. The costumes are different and so is the dance, stage etc...

  • Pekin Opera outfit?

  • the poses are as dramatic as indian traditional dances!! so beautiful!!

  • This was very informative - great video and beautiful dancing. I love how the Ryukyuan kimono has these symmetrical shapes covering an all black material, like the dancers at 2:43. I'm not an expert by any means, but it seems quite distinctive. I've seen the shapes much larger on photographs of Ryukyuans.

  • Does the doctor that delivered you, know that you are quoting him?

  • that's what said him when i first saw him (the doctor).

come on the actors' faces were creepy

  • I loved Okinawa! I lived there for over 2 1/2 years, and it was like a vacation every day! The food is amazing, the weather is awesome (besides typhoons!), and the people are lovely.

  • You lived in Okinawa, you say? :D I've wanted to go there so badly. Their snakes always scared me, though. Did you come across any snakes over there?

  • Ha ha! Surprisingly I didn't. Then again I made sure I stayed away from the areas where they were known to hang out at. I did come across a lot of bats, though! Those things are like Okinawa's national bird or something!

  • Beautiful music! Wish it where more popular!

Here in Germany it is unfortunately next to unknown. Thankyou for uploading on youtube!

  • What's the difference between Ryukyan and Okinawan?

  • Ryukyu = Okinawa

There was the Ryukyu Kingdom in the Okinawa islands in old times.

And Okinawa was a term of address which Japanese samurai's government applied to Ryukyuan when they (samurais) conquered the Okinawa islands.

To me, Ryukuan history & culture reminds me of Hawaii.

  • I have never visited Okinawa, but my cousin told me about it once. I would love to move to Japan. I have an experience where I wake up from a dream about my past love every other night.

  • Hey, thanks for all your comments of the video. I miss Okinawa too, all the time, is like a dream living there, and i appreciate that you like my job. Looking forward to go again and visit my japanese friends, Best wishes, Alejo.

  • i miss Okinawa! I hope to move back there once i finish college! :D

  • This is an excellent introduction to Okinawan dance, very didactic and informative, thank you. I am of Okinawan ancestry, born and raised in Peru. :)

  • You provided a beautiful and concise explanation of Okinawan dance. I am a student in the bay area of San Francisco,CA and and when many of my friends want an explanation of Okinawan dance you site is beautiful. Thank you for honoring it.

  • wow the way they move it's like a live doll moving

  • yep. I won't even go onto gangalng of Bali, Just a bunch of noise if u ask me. But I actually llike this reminds me of genji: dawn of the samurai

  • good for horror movies music

  • people can be mixed; and it is highly hypothesized that Okinawans also share roots with s.e. asia including the Phillipines.

  • Wow THIS IS AMAZING. THAT WAS THE COOLEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. DO YOU HAVE MORE!!!
