In the book Bielski refers to AK as "White Poles" as to differentiate between them and Soviet -allied PPR and Armija Ludowo. If you want to attack the movie, fine. Do some research which you can do on line. The Germans were arming some villages in the area to fight the Soviets and the Partisans. Who knows what happened. I agree Zus was a killer which was shown in the movie and Tuvia had a heart. 99% of the Jews in Europe did not have a gun or know how to use one or ever went hunting. To blame the massacure on Jews is unfair. Look what happened to every other village in Poland without exception. Great Movie.
The movie "Defiance" actually helps resolve the mystery around the Naliboki massacre. As shown in the movie, the main body of the Bielski's group (Tuvia's group) might be not involved in the massacre at all, while the group of "Jewish Warriors" (Zus' group) under soviet command took part in that massacre. Therefore, all of the conflicting testimonies: Tuvia's group insisting that they were far away from it, and the survivors clearly identifying Bielski's Jews as the perpetrators.
Great Movie overall. Saw it twice. I have come to the collusion the proper punishment for Hitler would be if millions people in Europe become Jewish or if the churches change the holy day from sunday to saturday or if they start observing some jewish holidays or say some prayers in Hebrew. Villagers were killing Russians and Jews. This was a tough time for all and the poles and belorussians were working for the Germans.
Naliboki massacre was the mass killing of about 128 locals (Polish people) in the town of Naliboki (then German occupied Poland, now Western Belarus) on May 8, 1943, by Soviet partisans and Jewish Bielski partisans !!!!
Go to winipedia and put in Nazi collaberation. You can see that Poland had one of the best records but you can also see that some polish villages in the Novosrogrok district were fighting for the Germans. Who knows what happened.

Iwanski of Warszawy district was an old fighter with Korfanty insurrection and went out of his way to rescue all kinds of people including Jews and lost 2 of his sons when Gestapo stormed his house . Her chronicle of events from founding by Jagellonian dynasty to WW2 and aftermath is chronicled in her book with title -Eisheshok. SHE LIVED THERE. his book is available in libraries- where I got it. God Bless the Bielski Brothers. It's unbelievable that this evil extermination went on, and not that long ago. The way those in hiding had to live and things they had to witness is horrible. It is important that this chapter in history be told over and over so no one forgets and new generations learn about, and from, the past. Many Poles killed Jewish neighbors or gave them up to be killed, thereby relinquishing the right to accuse those same Jews of killing Poles. Evil happens b/c people allow it. Even "good" Poles relinquished the rights and privileges of good people when they stood by and watched their Jewish neighbors being hauled away. Even if it meant risking their own lives, doing anything less would be complicit with evil. Good people must stand up to evil or it will prevail as it did in Europe during WWII.

@jamb0n The book is not like the movie because it doesn't allege actions taken against both Bielski group and Red Partisans by Armija Krajowa and retaliation by both against AK. In the book Bielski refers to AK as "White Poles" as to differentiate between them and Soviet -allied PPR and Armija Ludowo. If you want to attack the movie, fine. But read the book before you attack it because you may or may not accept its accounts.

Prof. Marek Jan Chodakiewicz analized the NKVD documents and provided un-biased reply to Yaffa Eliakh, who was also condemned by Adam Michnik (a Jew), who was very displeased with her bull.
Prof. Chodakiewicz also point out that other at least 30 Hebrew witnesses...

Do some research which you can do on line. The Germans were arming some villages in the area to fight the Soviets and the Partisans. Who knows what happened. I agree Zus was a killer which was shown in the movie and Tuvia had a heart. 99% of the Jews in Europe did not have a gun or know how to use one or ever went hunting. The movie "Defiance" actually helps resolve the mystery around the Naliboki massacre. As shown in the movie, the main body of the Bielski's group (Tuvia's group) might be not involved in the massacre at all, while the group of "Jewish Warriors" (Zus' group) under soviet command took part in that massacre. Therefore, all of the conflicting testimonies: Tuvia's group insisting that they were far away from it, and the survivors clearly identifying Bielski's Jews as the perpetrators.

There were over 100,000 partisans hiding and fighting in the woods. Who knows what happened in one small town. The Bielski's may have been tough guys but they would not massacure a village. Villagers were killing Russians and Jews. This was a tough time for all and the poles and belorussians were working for the Germans.

Naliboki massacre was the mass killing of about 128 locals (Polish people) in the town of Naliboki (then German occupied Poland, now Western Belarus) on May 8, 1943, by Soviet partisans and Jewish Bielski partisans !!!!

Go to winipedia and put in Nazi collaberation. You can see that Poland had one of the best records but you can also see that some polish villages in the Novosrogrok district were fighting for the Germans. Who knows what happened.

This would be a beautiful history..Unfortunately,not and completely so simple..The brothers Bielski they were killing innocent Poles. We love the heroes, and we love the victory of the good..but..I sorry..

Poles, as innocent bystanders, doesn't fly. If they knew, and they did, what was happening to their Jewish neighbors, then they had an obligation to help. That would be the right thing to do, even at the risk of your own life. Any other stance allows evil to triumph. Until we all learn that lesson, evil will continue to triumph.

omfg theres no proof that the bielski brothers were responsible for the naliboki massacre...and in fact all accounts of their locations through out their establishment of the camps in the woods given by survivors, and encounters with german troops and police, suggests that they weren't any where near Naliboki until August of 43, but the massacre of that village occured in may of 43...so dont believe evrything u read from anti-semetic blogs or youtube comments, get the facts

History is not black and white - particulary in war time. Look for Tuwia Bielski is he a hero? Yes - he saved so many persons. Is he murderer? Ask Naliboki.

Those "partisants" were Jews and they killed 130 polish farmers from village Naliboki in 1943.. but in this movie thye're presented as heroes! Sure - for Hollywood attacking at 5 o'clock in the morning sleepy civilians and killing them - is a heroism. Why ? Because killed civilians were POLISH ! If killed people would be Jews- then Hollywood wouldn't present their killers as heroes!
