I will always remember seeing the Vulcan at a Duxford show in about 1985. Standing with a USAF guy and his Hercules, we felt the amazing thunder in our chests when the afterburners lit...I'll never forget that!
I remember seeing a Vulcan in the late 70's at the Sunderland airshow in UK. The pilot did a lot of high g manouevers. The Sound is what sticks to me to this day. It shook my chest and made my head almost explode
Nice! But...at what cost? Is it worth TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY to fly it? Vulcan Operating Co told Lottery that airshow fees would pay all costs for sustained operations. Now, we're finding out that's not true. Sorry, guys, but TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY was never gonna come from airshow fees. A blind man couldda seen that before you started. I seem to recall the RAF retired it because, aside from being old, it was also EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE. VulcantotheHANGAR!
I was at RIAT 2009 this year on a MACH 3 Ticket and as a few people have commented you would have been better putting the video with the Sunday take off that was so much better !! It did a wing-over of at least 120 degrees right after it lifted off
I was there for the show tdy from Barksdale, and let me tell watching the Vulcan climb after take off was crazy. I didn't think such a big plane could do something like that.
It was ok because of the Vulcan.. Vulcan display was best on sunday but wheather was horrible. I was att RIAT 10 years ago 1999, and i have not to this day seen any better airshow!
I presume you guys are talking about Sunday (it being the worst). Saturday was fine just a tad cloudy. Very nice quality video! Tegoarcanadei, you talk about the
B2 and I hope you know that it's not certain that it will show up; also spectators aren't allowed to know when (if it does) arrive.
I had my own flyby on monday, she flew into Filton (Bristol)...boy,did that bring back memories of when a Vulcan was used to test the Olympus engine for Concorde. And to think that the ePetition got a negative response from Number 10!!!
Glad you like it. Camcorder body is a JVC GY-HM 700 HD but the lens and tripod are the more important. Lens is an especially powerful Fujinon (3x the power of the lens normally delivered with the camera body) and tripod is Vinten 11; altogether about £20,000.
ref youtube HD a colleague does all that but i didn't think there was any great difficulty; original footage has to be HD of course. Try the help files.
@IainPlanesTV 20K?! God, my 1000€ DSLR puts out a better picture than this.... It's crazy actually, the damage that the HD DSLR's have done to the high-end video camera market. I think you could acheive most needs with a Canon 5D MK2 with decent lens/tripod set up.... 20,000 is very excessive.
RIAT 09 was a tad dissapointing. The Vulcan presence was a plus, but it lacked the F22, B2 and russian fighters. Although the weather held up (on Saturday anyway). Look forward to a better RIAT in 2010.
RIAT 2009 was a major disappointment I feel. Too much repetition. I once went to New York and then straight to Boston and I had the same underwhelmed feeling when watching the Jordanian Extras after the jets on Saturday - worth watching but badly timed within the displays. This year's show didn't compare well to previous years (no B2 or flying Lancer) and why were the big transporter displays cancelled? Lose the wing-walkers for goodness sake - village fête stuff!
when it took off on sunday i was further down the runway towards the green exit end. honestly thoght he was gonna barrel roll it when it banked over. the weather was appauling.. but it really didnt matter soon as the vulcan fired up!
this year was the worst riat i have bin two im only 18 but iv bin going since the 2 mig 29 crashed the best thing about the day was the vulcan hope they make up 4 it next year
....thats not including the appaulling traffic management both in and around the carparks. Took 5 hours to travel 6 miles to get in. We left at 5pm and couldn't get to the main (flowing) traffic inside the
carpark 100 feet away! because there was no one marshalling the merging traffic, yet there were two marshalls at the exit of the carpark waving people out an open gate! If its the same next year I may not bother attending a once great show.
i heard about that, i got the bus to swindon and i was home in just over half an hour! although i did leave straight after the vulcan had flown since i was soaking wet,
great video to, really does put mine to shame haha
...then straight after that they put the black cats up, followed by the black seahawks, come on mix it up a little! there where too many duplicate displays 2 f-18 displays, 2 Saab Gripen displays, it feel
like padding, its meant to be a military airshow, yet we are forced to sit through wing walkers. there was no grand finale, they put the Red Arrows on at midday, no raf role demo, nothing new or unusual
I've been attending airshows my whole life and go to RIAT every year, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed this year, especially after last years disaster. We eventually got in after missing the first 3
displays. The US participation was nil, its on a US airbase for god sake, no russian aircraft, hardly any RAF, even the harriers which I was looking forward to couldn't even muster a display, after the NAVY
100 flypast, which in my opinion was far too drawn out....
yeah i agree with you. the weather was bad, not only that i felt there wasnt enough planes this year, even tho its the worlds biggest airshow more like the world smallest.
You`ve gotta hand it to the Italians, they`re regaining their confidence after the accident in Germany,I feel the Red Arrows, whilst excellent pilots, are getting conplacent.
Hi! Met you guys earlier and thought you had a great stand at the show. Nice to meet you all and keep up the good work. Don't forget to keep me informed on all the top work you're doing on the HD vids!

The vulcan is a very nice looking plane.
manifestman132 1 year ago
The Vulcan Bomber is a very graceful plane, and I've always found that it silences a crowd because of its dominance - you just have to watch it.
For those who know or remember its history, we realise that for decades it carried nuclear bombs, and realising that makes people quiet too.

Yes it is British, one of the V Bombers. It left active service in the 1980's and I believe this is the only one flying in the world at the moment.
