At the end of the day Microsoft won the OS platform war and that's it. Windows is not the best operating system that is out there but hey if you run it on compatibility tested hardware (Lenovo machines & Sony Z series) it is as good as a Mac.

well the vista pc i had was premade...the win 7 one i made and all problems probably came from drivers and such but there was still more problems....like windows explorer crashing every time i went into my files.

vista was poorly done, if your hardware was not setup well enough, u'll crash for sure. Stick with either Xp or 7 on a basic computer, unless your sure your system is totally stable for vista

I understand what you mean, cuz i had vista running well on a fairly decent config, but it wasnt something you would want to install with the min req's... The only really good vista experence i had was from a re-build cracked Uber Lite version. It was stripped to xp's basic stuff, and it ran fine on really old comps with low specs. :P

@t909planet you can do many things on a Mac. I'm not saying that. However it has its limitations; limitations that Windows cover. So, for me it doesn't justify paying a lot of money, i think of Macs as "luxury computers".

Vista just seemed to be a bit too user friendly, to the point were it just ended up being restrictive. I'm on 7 now, and it's a huge improvement. But like Vista, sometimes I get updates which end up screwing up my computer. So I just turned them off, and set a system restore point before installing them.

Vista comes up when the computeers when not powerful enough. Windows vista pushed the hardware builders to make powerful hardware for our pc. Then a lighter vista has come, and we had powerful pc to run it! Don't talk about something that you don't care. Vista has developped our PC world!
@Orthodox72 Windows 98 and XP were both terrible operating systems. Because of what they call the "DLL hell", you could have the most crazy conflicts that lead to instability. This problem was first solved in Vista with the WinSxS folder. Also both 98 and XP were extremely insecure and were designed before Microsoft made changes inside the company to have a stronger focus on security. Windows 98 was great more than 10 years ago, but not in 2011 with the hardware changes we have seen.

the interesting thing about MS is that genuine copies of any of their OS's will work flawlessly but it still wasn't nice of them that they haven't fixed the bugs in 7 while beta testing that thing for 6 months or 1 year can't remember, the 2009 December version that came out was a hunk of junk. I still can run anything on vista home premium that I can't run on win 7 ultimate... which is kind of funny

@MichelFP I don't see why. True, it has possible security holes for instance, but when it comes to user friendlyness, it beats all Win systems. I'd say, most people get viruses through the browser. So just use Firefox with NoScript, and never log on as an Admin. How hard can it be. Only alternative I see is Linux with XP theme. If you want the over all speed and security of Linux and the user friendlyness of XP.

1. Macs can run Windows Vista. Yes, they can magically transform into a Shitbox called a PC. it can also run your childish games like your Fags of duty or whatever.
2. You know that one file on a Window computer? Yeah, System 32. The file that you delete if you want to turn your computer into a $XXXX.XX doorstop? Go ahead and delete any files like that on a mac. Oh Wait? You Cant? Hmmmm.....

There is no file on a mac that you can right-click and delete that will Brick your computer. you'd have to intentionally write it all out and confirm the fact that you are about to destroy your computer. @t909planet you can do many things on a Mac. I'm not saying that. However it has its limitations; limitations that Windows cover. So, for me it doesn't justify paying a lot of money, i think of Macs as "luxury computers".
I wrote that because the kid i replied to was clearly flaming Windows with no valid reasons. Viruses, slowness, even BSOD are not a problem for me. Just saying, last time i saw a BSOD was 5 years ago when my father accidently let my laptop fall off a 15 Meters height.

Vista just seemed to be a bit too user friendly, to the point were it just ended up being restrictive. I'm on 7 now, and it's a huge improvement. But like Vista, sometimes I get updates which end up screwing up my computer. So I just turned them off, and set a system restore point before installing them.

I have compared both Vista Ultimate 64 bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and saw little difference in memory consumption. It's probably there, but I haven't noticed it.

@Orthodox72 Windows 98 and XP were both terrible operating systems. Because of what they call the "DLL hell", you could have the most crazy conflicts that lead to instability. This problem was first solved in Vista with the WinSxS folder. Also both 98 and XP were extremely insecure and were designed before Microsoft made changes inside the company to have a stronger focus on security. Windows 98 was great more than 10 years ago, but not in 2011 with the hardware changes we have seen.

@Orthodox72 Modern computers have multi core 64 bit processors, new motherboard designs, new memory, video and bus standards that are often not supported (or not well supported) in Windows 98 or to a lesser extend in XP. When you use Windows 98 or XP on any modern computer, you're basically restricting the potential power of your hardware.

What are the advantages of Windows?
More cluttered, slower, prone get viruses, harder to use, the standard applications sucks, difficulty to download stuff, no cover flow, slower each week that passes.
This is almost everything Windows has to offer, not very impressive. I've tried both. Took me a second to choose even though I have been a hefty Windows user before, the Mac was clearer, so way choose Windows when you can choose Mac?

It's just that they make up a much smaller portion of the market, and in result, virus makers go after the Windows OS because of its popularity. The same thing would happen to OSX if it got that big. OSX is faster than windows as on OS, but Microsoft just makes the OS, not the PC. So if your PC is slow, buy a faster one. If you have trouble dowloading stuff on windows...Both operating systems slow down

the interesting thing about MS is that genuine copies of any of their OS's will work flawlessly but it still wasn't nice of them that they haven't fixed the bugs in 7 while beta testing that thing for 6 months or 1 year can't remember, the 2009 December version that came out was a hunk of junk. I still can run anything on vista home premium that I can't run on win 7 ultimate... which is kind of funny

@Nightdevilxxx it's not that. vistas run fine, but fail to play shit that you wanna plaand layout is also messed up witch continued on to 7. in my opinion windows xp is the best Microsoft OS. ive never used linux or mac so.

@MichelFP I don't see why. True, it has possible security holes for instance, but when it comes to user friendlyness, it beats all Win systems. I'd say, most people get viruses through the browser. So just use Firefox with NoScript, and never log on as an Admin. How hard can it be. Only alternative I see is Linux with XP theme. If you want the over all speed and security of Linux and the user friendlyness of XP.
