  • I've had a tube vypyr 60 for a few months now. I use a les Paul so I love my warm sounds. This amp is simply beautiful. It keeps it's rich sound even at low volumes. I have never heard it over half volume cos it hurts lol. It's really loud. The walls vibrate and my dogs run away.

I use the sampera 1 pedal. It is everything all rolled into 1. The two together will make anyone sound like a rock god.

  • we've used one of these (see "Sink Attack" for example) - not bad amp at all for the price, especially if you're after a whole range of type of guitar tones. If you're after a pure clean, or a very heavy tone, look around for other stuff, like the Peavey 6505+ combo if you like Peavey.

  • maybe a weird question

but is it good for bedroom practise cuz this amp is tha shit!!!

and by bedroom practise i mean low volumes of course :p

  • @slaytallimaiden That's about all this is good for! HA!

People, please stop buying theis modeling crap!! Peavey themselves have all tube amps so cheap, specially if you get them used, why in the name of the good lard would you buy this imitation?

  • can anyone tell me what the bypass is? does it turn off the stompboxes and the effects? what does it do

  • the video kinda laggs at 10:00 isn't it??

  • @chepe371 Yeah, that's a good way of putting it.

  • These amps are great, even the vypyrs without tubes sound nice

  • @jma111000 yeah you jsut gotta figure out how to change the "voicings" and select a Dark voice, it mellows the harsh highs you get from digital processing. but for the money and for all the features, these amps shit all over LINE6 any day of the week, and ive owned several pods including X3 for over 3 years, and i never gota sound as full and nice as through a Vypyr30 with the 12inch.

  • Nice review

  • I don't recommend this amp, I mean, not like I have any type of experience with it, but the fact that it has got a computer like system doesn't feel to good, it's like making things too complex, I don't want my amp to freeze when I overuse it

  • @nonpoint666rocks sure it seems complex but its made to take a beating.

  • @cmzangetsu1993 yeah, i know it's supposed to, and maybe it does but it gives you another, I mean, I've seen sooo many reiview in the web saying they had problems with the firmware, with I don't know what and they had to send it back to get it fixed and it never actually got completely fixed, and since I had that problem with an mp3 years ago I can really relate to those guys

  • This is like the terminator...

  • wait, so this is a digital tube amp?

  • @FenderrMann no its not digital the rack effects how ever are but the amps and stompbox is not

  • @FenderrMann no, its analog

  • @FenderrMann Yep.

  • Am I the only one who thinks that amps gonna fall

  • well of course tube sounds better ? though im gonna get a bugera tube v22 next.. my vypyr 15W is starting to sound.. well meh

  • Have you ever compared this to the digital version? I tried the solid state one, and it sounds like crap.

  • does anyone know if those amps are full tube powered? isn't there a transistorpart in it? cuz the amps seams a little to beautiful for the price ;')

  • thanks bro, very helpful

  • Will the vypyr tube head with a valveking cab beat a VOX VT100 in metal tone?

  • @Therium1 Absolutely. The VT series is great, but still 2nd to the Vypyrs in distortion.

  • Can i put into this amp an other multi-effect ?

  • it kinda sounds like a mud box in this video. No sparkle w/out preamp tubes? Kinda has an over-processed digitech sound. In person may be a whole different story though. 6L6's are nice though. should have a nice deep bottom end I would think.

  • Is it loud enough for a small gig?

  • @drewgunner14 If read anywere, that the vypyr 30 can reach more than 120dB.

  • @drewgunner14 For sure, for small gigs this will work great. You may want to change the tubes and possibly swap out the speaker before playing live. But this thing get's plenty noisy, I almost never turn my above 3 when jamming with my band.

  • @BigHeadClan Why would you want to swap the tubes and speakers? I mean wouldn't you be better off just buying a 5150 stack instead? I don't think this amp is really the stage amp of preference or really intended for that, it's a bedroom/jamspot amp that can easily dial in good tones for a decent price. It's the same as line 6 stuff, it sounds great in your apartment and records well but for live situations or loud volumes it breaks up and gets lost in the mix.

  • @ottawadrummer I agree on leaving it alone, but the reason to not buy a 5150 stack instead is because a 5150 sounds like a 5150 and nothing else. If you want flexibility - like in a cover band - this is where this type of amp shines. As for cutting through the mix, there is never an excuse to not cut through the mix if you're in a good venue playing. If the amp can't cut it you have them mic it up through the house system. I can't see 60w tube not cutting, esp if rigged to a 4x12.

  • @tbirdpunk If you had a 4x12 then yeah it would work, but I think you're only a couple hundred bucks away from a 5150 stack so why not get the real deal? I've jammed/ gigged with all kinds of bands using line6, marshall, peavey solidstate/modeling and the difference is when you turn it up loud. Tubes actually sound better when they heat up so these type of amps are ideal for gigs and loud jams. Digital amps cut out at loud volumes and sound flat and lifeless. The vypyr is 'tube', aka modeling.

  • @ottawadrummer Because Peavey used a really cheap speak in the Vypr line-up and the tubes that are in the amp already are Biased to run colder(cheaper brand as well if I recall) and tubes only sound better the hotter they run.

Those 2 swaps can make the AMP sound much better then it did originally, and it all costs under $200 to make the change. And in most cases your connected to a PA system when playing live, if your not the venue is small enough that you shouldn't have any problems playing.

  • @drewgunner14 I would buy the 100 watt version for that! (:

  • just wanna add. anyone with a mac wont need a seperate output interface. this guy needs more info. try recording with garageband. it kicks ass!

  • this guy sucks at demos. when i put new tubes in my 120w head. ill make a good video for everyone.

  • I played this about a year ago and a Guitar Center. I played it for like 2 hours, it sounded so good for a modeling amp.

  • Im selling my Vypyr 60 for $375 with sanpera 2 pedal. If anyone is interested PM me

  • SETH ROGAN!!!

  • all i want to do is to sound like metallica

  • Excellent reviews!! Thank you!!

  • im gonna own this mo fo but why is the add on pedal cost so much money's? this amp sounds great with the d-activator and super distortions from Dimarzio.

  • This, or the 6505?

  • @ShimoOwnzU If you have the money 6505 is the way too go, but if not this is a good option as it can simulate the 6505 preet close ! as well as other amazing amps too

  • you know you can can talk somewere else, this isnt private chat room,

    tube owns!

  • i dont mind you trying to help people need to do that more its just i cant give any more info than i gave and wanted to make a comment explaining what i wanted to say first off to prevent such an unnecessary conversation about what we already know, which is yeah shit went wrong during shipment which is why i RMA'd them

can we agree that the amps were shit by the time they got to me?

  • refer to first comment jesus christ save your fuckin soul

  • @Mastecon21

that's the full story? i knew that part. why did you say that i didn't know the full story if it was the first comment? im not stupid. if shit went wrong during the shipping then it can be fixed without much trouble. if "i got it and it was dead from the start" is your full story then i am probably right and you just need to get the amp checked out.

  • @Mastecon21

and for the record i wasn't trying to argue. i was trying to help, but i didn't do a very good job lol.

  • Comment removed

  • all of these amps are quite beast, the only trick is learning how to customize the presets and effects to your liking. If you master this trick, these amps are literally irreplaceable and infinitely valuable

  • what does he mean the tubes are in the power section? if you use any pedal for distortion and then it runs into a tube amp, e.g., tube screamer into Fender Twin-- isn't this the SAME??

  • Just my opinion, But...

Peavey Vypyr Tube + EMG pickups = BABIESSSSS!

  • @claimless

using active pickups sterilizes the tone just as much as line 6 spiders do, or at least that's what i have experienced. i prefer passive pickups like dimarzios.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I won't say that passive pickups are bad. All I've had was passive guitars up until Christmas of last year, and I still loved the sound, but EMG seems to have my sound better. Everyone has their own preference. I've heard good things about Dimarzios as well. Some of my friends use them, but not many.

  • @claimless

well, if they were stock passive pickups then you aren't going to get a very good tone unless they are the duncan designed pickups which are pretty good. it is a matter of preference, but i don't like active pickups.

  • What we need to see in an amp demo, is certain sounds using the original song -- thats my opinion, and how I made my "Vypyr demo, Hendrix, Van Halen, and SRV sounds" Is this a hard concept to grasp-- why do guys post sounds no one has ever, or ever will use?? You just can't tell what this tube Vypyr is capable of with this video,-someone help- I think this should be a great amp.

  • I had a Vypyr 75 before, but i got rid of it, I miss it.

However, I really like the tone this Vypyr tube 60 produces. Maybe I will pick up one of each.

Thanks for the review, well done.

  • @idrinkensureplus247 Same here man, last week I traded in my Vypyr 30 to get a Mustang II...man what the hell was I thinking? Mustang II gets returned today.

  • i ordered a 6505+ combo. died. ordered another one. died. considering getting this one now.

  • @Mastecon21 get it. i've had one for 2 years and nothing bad has happened with it. hasn't broken or anything. theres a 6505 setting on this amp so u can get that tone that u dont have anymore apparently

  • @Mastecon21

replace the tubes stupid, they didn't die.

  • @Fluffypopcicle WOW good idea lets just replace the tubes that should work fine in the first place? seriously? you're the moron its called product defect

  • @Mastecon21

if it died it most likely means that the tubes died or that there is something wrong with the tubes. no tubes = no power.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I dont think you understand. I ordered the amp. it came to my house. When i wanted to play it, it was already effed up. multiply that story by 2. why is that so hard to comprehend as to why Im so angry! anyone who has played guitar for 10 yrs (ME) knows what the fuck tubes do why else would i have ordered the amp now shut up and let me play on my amp that actually works out of the fuckin box duuuuuuude

  • @Mastecon21

there are lots of things that can go wrong during shipping. tubes can get knocked loose, stuff can get damaged etc. i just suggest that you look into it more before deciding that they are dead. there is probably an internal problem. 2 peavey's being bad in a row is unheard of, they're built like tanks.

  • @Fluffypopcicle ok whatever dude youre just repeating what im trying to effing tell you anyways stop arguing with people like CLAIMLESS when you dont know the full story. so if youre just gonna agree that shit went wrong during shipping why are making a stand?

  • @Mastecon21

i just find it hard to believe that 2 peavey amps in a row came defective. what is the "full story?" i would like to hear it.

  • Man im gonna get the 30 watt head and for $200 new you cant beat that for all it gives you.,and $600 nee for a tube head come on tht is amazing!!

  • wow sounds so much fatter and chunkier with the tube DAMN IT! wish i would've waited for the tube oh well great amp had mine for a year love it! Buy the sanpera II tho w/o it ur only using about half the amp plus you cant use the looper and the sanpera I is pretty much a waste of money all it really is is a volume pedal

  • i got a 30 and it gets more use than my expensive tube amps.

  • I love that amp but i have the 15 watts and i want the 60 like that.snif

  • peavy only good digital amps and noly good affordable tube amp period

  • What type of cable do you need to have to use the USb output on the amp ?

  • I bought this amp today and it kix ass,620$ can.the sound is awsome, after a little screwing around you will get the hang of it,most impressive is all the amps you can choose from and the wide variety effects,if you want metal sounds you wont be dissapointed,i matched the and justice tone in no time

  • no line out for mixer????

  • how does this fella compare to the orange pix 35 w crush which is not tube but also about $200 dollars cheaper, this one looks like it might have better overall sound quality and possibility for tone options and features overall but idk......... help me out people's, i love you long time

  • can someone tell if this amp can handle drop c tuned guitar well?

  • Comment removed

  • @drugdrunkker I mostly play in drop c or d standard, this amp handles both well. the 6505 lead channel is awesome!

  • @ SchecterShredder137 lol that is EXACTLY what i am doing

  • Gearwire reviews bore me to fucking tears.

Bad playing and rambling blah.. blah.. blah..

Proguitarshopsdemos videos are light years better than this nerdy crap.

  • Upgradin to this from the line 6 spider 30 watt so excited so much to play around with

  • Comment removed

  • Some one please answer my question........I have a Valveking head and i like it but it lacks gain i want to know if its worth buying the vypyr 120 watt head........plz dont tell me to buy pedals cuz i dont like distortion pedals.

  • @TheCephalic19 The vypyr has all the gain you can want, plus the tubes, so i say get it

  • i tried the 60w tube version at guitar center yesterday and i was blown away. Beautiful solo tones without the harsh digital bite of line 6 amps. and at 450 its a deal. Get one.

  • that Schecter Tempest is jus gorgeous! oh nice review too but that guitat jus made the video worth watching!

  • I have a question, can you use other effect pedals with this amp, like an Ibanez Crybaby or Boss pedal?

  • @codyjt5150 yeah you can, just gotta make sure you don't double up distortions or any of that

  • @MrROFLKNIFE thanks

  • maybe if this guy would spend more time showing us the different amp models and effects of this amp, instead of just trying to show off playing guitar, we'd get a lot more out of this review

  • Line 6 is terrible. The distortion sounds like a can of bees being shaken. When you turn it up to any high volume the distortion completely covers up the guitar signal.

  • @MapleLeafAce have you ever spent time with a higher end line 6 product? judging by your comment i'd say you haven't. you can make them sound great if you actually put some time into it

  • @ibanezguitars44 in terms of smaller-powered Spider 3 practice amps, ranging from 15 to 30 watts, their tone is subpar. The higher-powered models have better tone, and definitely more modeling options, but the small Line 6 Spider 3's are a poor investment.

guess i shoulda been more specific; I only meant the Spider 3's

  • @ibanezguitars44 :D afreed my pig cxonsits of line 6 and i get many compliments on my tone! people still thinking bout the spiders 3's (witch do suck) :)

  • @MapleLeafAce i agree with you there...i have a Line 6 Spider 4 15w....i will say that i actually like the "Metal" setting on it...but thats the ONLY thing i enjoy about it....once i turn it up to about 4 it becomes so muddy i cant even hear they chord in playing...its just a wall of mud

  • @TrippyTheShroom totally true, i can't even play any chords on my spider 4

  • Comment removed

  • @MapleLeafAce Yes I do agree that L6 breaks up at higher volumes, but they sound great at lower volumes for demos and apartment jams. And for the buck, you can't really complain. Sure if you compare L6 to a boutique amp, the tone is pretty bad, but I don't think you should be comparing an economy car that gets you from A to B without breaking the bank to a luxury car. So ya, they're really bad amps for live jams and stage, but good for the studio and your bedroom.

  • @ottawadrummer I have a Peavey Vypyr 30W now after getting rid of my Line 6 Spider III. Haven't looked back since.

  • @MapleLeafAce can of bees shaken lol a good analogy for line 6 distortion.

  • Vypyr 75 or 60??

  • Great Demo. Thank you!

  • i have line 6, and just got this amp. line 6 is fizzy and sucks at high vol for metal, but is still excellent on other settings, the vypyr tube is awesome, once you figure out the settings (its not that bad for basic metal tones) this amp owns. The cleans are also amazing as you can hear. no more pedals wires and all that other crap.

  • this idiot drummer tried telling me that my vypyr 30 is shit just because it doesnt create a shit ton of bass. but then again, he's a drummer.

  • and thn i was lyke.. play sum focken metal u pusseh xD

  • Dude. The tone on all Spiders is awful, trust me I've owned 2 of them (yeah I sucked with amp choices)

  • vyper is awful. Id go for a line 6 4. i love line 6 4 idk y but its so digital cool. however its not tujbe or a hybrid

  • @MrZerox123 dude line 6 is more of a toy. they make a good practice amp and all the effects are nice, but the vypyr sounds soooo much better and it doesnt get so distorted when you turn it up (just my opinion)

  • Jesus the vypyr 60 sounds such much better!

  • what guitar is that/??

  • this amp looks really complicated. u can tell the guy doesnt even like it and it seems they kinda went too far with all the effects tweaking. if your thinking about getting this amp, i would first check out the VOX VALVETRONIX amps. i have one and its amazing.

  • @thrashtildeth247 If you just read to seconds of the manual it's easy to control.

  • @thrashtildeth247 It's not complicated at all.

  • this amp looks really complicated

  • This amp or the solid state version for playing metalcore/death metal?

  • 4:30 Butt Trumpet!

  • Can i reset the ap to get the factory settings again?

  • would this be good for blues?

  • Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 or Line 6 Flextone 3 plus?

  • @miguevampiro not the flextone,NOT THE FLEXTONE!!!

  • Well...as a long time semi-pro guitarist. searching for the ultimate tone?....Going thru Carvins, Marshall, Randalls ,Laneys, Ampegs and even ADA rackmounts...So, I came acrossed the Vypyr. i was intrigued....So I got the little 15w version. Sounded pretty dang good!! A little noisy, but potential tones were there.... BUT?!?!...I'm a tube man. So I looked into the tube versions, and looked frwrd to getting one someday. Well today was that day !! i got the 120w version, and it ABSOLUTELY rocks!

  • Man, these Vypyrs continue to impress. I personally, have a 30 watt SS Vypyr and even from that the tone is great and it's incredibly versatile which is a major plus. I love how they have an all tube 120W head for $550 :D. You can't beat it for the price. Way better than Line 6 IMO

  • Finally got this amp and it rocks! I love its clean channel's and the distortion on this thing is just mouth dropping!

  • I WANT PEAVEY!

  • @LinkinPk1fan Yes...it would be a great gigging machine w/the pedal plus u cant access the looper w/out it...maybe I`ll find one one ebay;-)

  • @LinkinPk1fan Yup...I played a valveking not so good for Metal though I guess w/an overdrive pedal it wouldnt be bad.Oh sanpera were are you???They should have given us it for free...and for the effects they are cool but I dont use anything exept reverb and delay and they both kick ass on this amp!!!!!! If you use a overdrive stomp box like the XRwild w/the green channel you can get alot of cool tones also,I got EVH tone perfect if not bettr.GREAT AMP GO PEAVEY!!!!

  • This amp is by far the best amp I ever played thru.cant beat it...sounds bettr.than the 6505...the tubes are JJs and sovteks...I put an eminence governor in mine and its just fabulouse!!!Check out my vids!!!!!Best 450 bucks I ever spent!!!1

  • From what I understand, the 12AX7 does not affect tone as a pre-amp tube. . used as a phase inverter tube. The amp is impressive though. When playing one at Guitar Center I was impressed with the Tube Screamer setting. . they really nailed the tone on that one . . so I guess the other tones are as realistic as the Tube Screamer setting?

  • The mic looks like paper :D

  • oh so it's not all tube...great

  • why isnt there real rock demos like zztop , van halen, gnr, Ac/DC, black sabbath, led zeppelin, or lynyrd skynyrd? can this amp play something similar to these

  • HOLY FUCK THIS AMP IS AWESOME.

Nicest Schecter I've ever seen as well.

  • "We've got a ring mod here... pretty cool" *plays* "or stupid"

    =D

  • Hey, I need some help. I'm looking at the Line 6 POD X3 Live for direct recording, the Vypyr Tube 60, and the ValveKing 112 Combo. Which is best? I play depressive black metal (Gurut; check it out). Therefor, I use a lot of cleans and I'd like a nice warm sound. When I do use distortion, I like a nice grind that still maintains a lot of clarity and punchiness. I do A LOT of recording. If a real amp is the way to go, I'll also need info on the best way to record an amp. Thank you.

  • @DeathMetalAngel123 If it's just to record yourself and you already have an amp, I advice you to buy a Tone Port by Line 6

  • @DeathMetalAngel123 "Therefor, I use a lot of cleans and I'd like a nice warm sound." Due to this comment I would (personally) avoid the Line 6... years back when I was facing the same dilemma since I had to go direct I went with a Vox Tonelab (there is better individual pedals out there for going direct imo). I guess for you it all depends on what you need and the environment you're recording in.

  • @pedheadz

Ahh, thanks man. I'm actually gonna end up with some more money than I thought ($800-$1000). I'm consulting all the local musicians (and many others) about what I should get. Some options I'm considering are, the Peavey 1x12 6505 Combo, Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, some kind of Processer, Egnater Tweaker half stack...

  • @DeathMetalAngel123 Good luck man. Choices like that are never easy. I went through so many amps just over the last two months and went back to where I started in the beginning (Tiny Terror, Night Train, and Vibro Champ).

  • This is an awesome amp i played it in guitar center. It was really really nice for a combo. I meant the tube one.

  • This guy is an arrogant douchebag.

  • Should I buy Peavey Valve King 112 or this one? I play usually stuff like DT, Celesty, Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius so power metal mainly. Or is there a better Peavey model for that kind of stuff?

  • damn :x i prefer line 6 valve 212...but that's my opionion :s

  • @mykemztr I got A line 6 spider valve mkII... and I love it... souds way better than the vypyr

  • If you replace the power tubes on this amp do you have to bias it or it does it's own bias?

  • I have to be perfectly honest, I didn't hear much difference at all between the Solid State Vypyr and the Vypyr Tube 60, so why spend the extra money to get the Tube 60?

  • @doneaster why dont ya crank em both up to the max then youll hear a difference

  • @wolfeman85 and how much time do you spend with the volume maxed ? gigs...ok....how many gigs will you have ?

the difference in money , is not really worth it , unless you're just buying it for gigs and jamming out loud.

  • I know I want a vypyr, but I cant decide between the vypyr 100, tube 60, or 120. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. It would be for home, practice, and small gigs in bars.

  • @wpm2011 For home the 60 watts is perfect and it can be very loud (so if you're playing alone in the bar don't worry ppl will hear you) :P

  • @wpm2011 Always go for tubes!

  • this is an amazing amp i have this amp

  • should i get the peavey valveking, the vox valvetronix 100 watt, the fender frontman 212r, vypyr tube or fender super champ XD

  • @TheSuicidalSquirrels Go play them all with ease at your local shop. You'll be far better in the end than basing your decision off other people's opinions.

  • @TheSuicidalSquirrels vox sucks 4 me, he is only overrated. I think u should buy something o ebay, somethig with tubes on the preamp. One months ago I bought marshall valvestate 80V with only one tube (12AX7) for about 310$ but the sound kicksasses and it's thousands times better for all transistor amps with provisionally effects... but everything deppends for your style. For me your examples are destined for teenagers who just wonna rock sometimes to be cool...

  • @TheSuicidalSquirrels vypyr tube the fenders suck i have them and the vox is ok but the vypyr owns

  • @SR5127CL yeah fender isn't really for all genres, you cant really play metal or even hard rock on one, which ar the genres that most people play on an electric guitar

  • @SR5127CL fenders dont suck' they just might not be right for you. i play in a metal band and i had a little 15 watt fender powering my cabinet and it worked suprisingly well. it was extremely loud for 15 watts but the distortion was a little weak' but not by much. i would record with a fender' so im getting this later today :D

  • @SR5127CL If you have the right set of pickups, that fender sound will come out. and I guarantee it.

  • is this amp good for metal stuf or hard rock ???!?!??!?! PLZ ANSWER ANYBODY

  • @TheBlind97 I played on the vypyr tube 120 in a local store, and it was great for everything I threw at it. I played a lot of Metallica on it as well as some Pantera, Ozzy, Iron Maiden.

  • @TheBlind97 yes it is i play metak and rock in my band get it!!!!

  • how can you fix it if its frezzez
