@mdude009 Yeah it was good. It was way different from the games story line even considering it was written prior to the chernobyl incident. Unfortunately apparently the locations originally intended and a lot of the book was taken out as russian propaganda (upon the books release in the early 70's) making it a pretty short read : /. If you enjoyed the movie though in my opinion you'll like the book.
@TheSweaterKid Propaganda? Figures, only the government would censor half an entire book because they believed everything was propaganda. Oh well, what you gonna do about it.
I wanted to watch the actual film, but the only languages I understand are English French and German. And only because french and german are so similar to english. Everything else sounds like the same two syllables over and over again. As for the music...How about some silent film ragtime piano?
Horrible film. LONG shots where NOTHING happens. The plot is weak. Frustrating to watch. I skipped the majority of the second half and I'm glad because in the end there was no payoff.
I so want to see this masterpiece. I've watched some of it, but it's not that interesting as it's in russian and I have no subtitles, for whatever reason I can't sync them at all. I think my copy is a bit impaired...
why were they trowing bolts with cloth attached to them? I hate how no one asked that in the movie! if I was ordered to do that I would say wtf? whats that for??
@TheEL337dude it is very simple. They throw the bolts to test the terrain whether it is safe or not; the stalker probably encountered certain anomalies that killed people.
a few posts before oktal3700 said that this movie is anti communist, and he got thumbed down badly! i dont really know, but the movie has a taste of gulak....so maybe hes right!
maybe the stalker is not breaking into the zone, but hes breaking out of his place.
ok the zone is dangerous but nature is taking back what mankind stole from it...
maybe the stalker wouldnt love the zone so much if he had a good life to enjoy.
its less an entering of the zone than an escape of the world the stalkersin
@etranger84 You obviously dont understand the movie,if You associate his home with Gulag, and The zone with freedom.
And besides, why would he run somewhere, where a single step in the wrong direction could kill you? ( : Stalker is a difficult movie to comprehend with,at least a few views are necessary for understading, and yet, every time I watch Stalker,I find something new. New meanings. ( : Just watch it more carefully.
@etranger84 Its about life. About everything that goes around you. It's full of symbols. Every person understands it differently,it's a interpretation thing really. Just find the time and watch it,You wont regret it.
indeed- tarkovsky was like the USSRs hollywood. if i recall correctly- he did this film twice, because the master got destroyed.
the book this movie is based on. "roadside picknick" is also very great. i was sad when i finished, its too short- i could walk through this universe for weeks.
even if it sounds nerdy, and some may not agree: almost 40 years after the book, we even got a great pc-game- i think its the best end-time-game ive ever played- awesome atmosphere.
@NoirDesire666 Tarkovski was one of the few film directors in Soviet Union, who was allowed to do art, not propaganda, like almost everyone else, because he was so good at it. Even soviets needed something to show at international movie festivals.

cause of playing the game right now, i must say, hey! the get the atmosphere very well. the landscape, the buildings, state of things. and there is more, not only the nuts. remember the dog? it became mutated... the cut scene were the stalker lies down in the gras...
the music in this vid is a little pathetic but i think it fits quite good. sometimes i watch it before playing ;-)
What? The part in this video where has colour is made on 1979? Hell! Thats crazy mate! I looks like as if its made in year 2000! Clear and has really nice coloring!
I really hope your kidding about it having color, colored movie have been popular in movies since the 50's not to mention it was invented in the late 1800's.

So summer is gone, Leaving no epitaph. It's still warm in the sun, Only that's not enough. All that true could have come, Like a five-fingered fluff, Folded into my palm, Only that's not enough. No evil was slighted in the good aftermath, World was festively lighted, Only that's not enough.

First, pause the video at 0:00
Then put it full screen
Then press the left arrow, then the up arrow at the same time.
So you are holding down both the left and up arrows
Now let go of them, and tap them both at the same time.
Enjoy your game of SNAKE! Thumbs up if this worked.

It's actually based upon the movie... The WishGranter and C-Con labs kind of represent the "Room" in the center of the Zone.
The GSC Dev team just tweaked the idea to fit their surroundings. Oblivion Lost, what it was originally going to be called, was truer to the film.
