Hey there, I decided to go for the Soviet faction for multiplayer, But before that Im trying to have enough skills to beat down Hard Diff CPUs (FFA or 2 v me at least). Otherwise I wouldnt think I would be worth for online. As soviet the empire hard CPUs are easy but I have problems dealing with allies, I cant kill them fast, something that leaves me in shame. The reason is because I always get rushed by allied units before I get in tier 2, I wanna know a proper base build to prevent rush and...
don't get heavy damages that slow down my production in the base, but seems my antirush plans are ocasional, I mean, depends on how the allies attack me, normally the allied CPU is bitchy and hit my weak point depending the plan, that's why Im trying to find a smart plan to prevent allied rushing without receiving massive damage. =w= sorry but Im still n00b with soviet

yeah theres a demo, but you can only play campaign, not skirmish. So you cant use all the units, but look at some more videos on youtube and you will get and idea of how the units counter eachother and so on!
it be pretty sweet to have some kind of demo, i know its kind of late now. but for future refrence, maybe release a small demo to allow people to see what the gameplay is like themselves and so they can get the feel to the game be4 acually buying the whole thing.
but not to much of a demo because it might ruin the fun ;)
soo reading all the comments it seems about 90% of people here have not even played the other red alerts. The red alerts were always a fun-based game and not meant to really be realistic at all. Its just fun and the proportions are off and everything but its still fun and a great skill based game. i think i come across as whiny because i find the standard for rts games these days is so high, that any new rts is gonna have a challenge getting into the top slot.
rts over the last 2 years has become so fantastic, with World in Conflict, Sins of a Solar Empire, Empire at War, C&C3 (you could perhaps argue), and most importantly Supreme Commander and its sequel Forged Alliance. They have raised the bar so high and i am just doubting if this game could pass them in awesomeness

yes it is supposed to be like real waR!!! remember generals and zero hour? they had very realistic looking visuals and units, with 3 very unique, modern day factions.

i highly doubt this game will be any better than c&c3, on the "toonyness" side, it looks even worse than c&c3.

it gives a feel of too much cheesyness to the units, especially aircraft, due to their superfast turning speed and tiny radius.
also, i am really disappointed with a few of the new units' appearance. the allied destroyer looks absolutely disgusting, and the apocalypse tank has oversized, toony barrels.
and as for tank turning speed do you think is to fast or to slow? cause if it's to slow I'll agree but tanks in real life can f*cking motor and have a fast turn rate so that is to be exepected. and zero hour do not have anywhere near the visuals that RA3 has and T3's graphics ARE Zero hours graphics improved tenfold. aircraft turning is true but no one wants to wait the alotted time so it is spead up a small factor

the soviet anti infantry walkers also look a bit stupid with the 3 machine guns facing different directions, and the soviet troop deployer with a circus cannon is utterly disapointing as an idea for troop deployment.
to continue groveling, the maps on this game will perhaps be too small for a satisfying, epic battle, and the online stuff may perhaps be neglected by EA; this is often the case because EA prefer to keep the FPSs running online and the RTSs come second.
all I can say about the realism is that it's human warfare in an alternatate reality so that put an end to the it's unrealistic discution. and I'll give you the apoc tank thing cause i too was vastly dissapointed it it, mostly the lack of anti-air and graphic design. so far we've only seen 4 maps and there for beta testing so they are smaller than wanted but in no means "cramped" or anything. the walkers three guns inplement a wider targeting range.
Last but not least yes the more games progress the more factions are needed to improve the gameplay. tiberuim wars had hinted on the scrin faction since the first game and it would only be natural with game progression that RA3 would too. every game does so and will continue to do so. Warcraft 1 and 2, only had 2 factions and did well but if they didn't add new factions to WC3 would it have been anywhere near as good? NO. and i to don't like the troop cannon only because you have to use it.
As a beta tester, I can confirm 100% that you can rotate buildings. Because it's based on a grid, you can only rotate them in 90' increments (as pointed out in your comment), but I like the grid based system a lot because it makes things easier to deal with/place down properly. :-)
Most effective way of destroying a base is buiding 10 Kirovs and put on aggreasive mode and tell them to go to your enemys base :)

plan to prevent allied rushes:
step 1: Build a barracks
step 2: Train at least 6-10 conscripts
step 3: build a power plant and some sentry guns (use the conscripts to fight off rushing peacekeepers and hold em off until the guns are done)
wow...3 easy steps and i didnt even know wat else to do follow these to stop allied rushes.
If they dont work well... your on your own :D

A good allied player will rush with a mix of air and infantry...Turrets only take 2 payloads to kill and peace keepers will rip conscripts apart.

all I can say about the realism is that it's human warfare in an alternatate reality so that put an end to the it's unrealistic discution. and I'll give you the apoc tank thing cause i too was vastly dissapointed it it, mostly the lack of anti-air and graphic design. so far we've only seen 4 maps and there for beta testing so they are smaller than wanted but in no means "cramped" or anything. the walkers three guns inplement a wider targeting range.

Last but not least yes the more games progress the more factions are needed to improve the gameplay. tiberuim wars had hinted on the scrin faction since the first game and it would only be natural with game progression that RA3 would too. every game does so and will continue to do so. Warcraft 1 and 2, only had 2 factions and did well but if they didn't add new factions to WC3 would it have been anywhere near as good? NO. and i to don't like the troop cannon only because you have to use it.

As a beta tester, I can confirm 100% that you can rotate buildings. Because it's based on a grid, you can only rotate them in 90' increments (as pointed out in your comment), but I like the grid based system a lot because it makes things easier to deal with/place down properly. :-)
