  • yes it's lovely and musical and all that but nothing special, obviously...

  • @utubuser10 everything you said..you'd better shut up!

  • the composition is of course marvelous (Chopin duh!). the performance is very lovely, gorgeous almost. She's got the right touch w.r.t. daymanics, effects, feeling etc...just a few notes missed here and there but otherwise a very lovely performance. I very muched enjoyed it :) Bravo!

  • what a shame that the only people who recognize her and her aptitude are other musicians. At least here in the states. Truly wonderful tone!

  • Really great pianist!

  • One time I was in a coffee shop and she was standing in there.. I was the only person who knew who she was. She's so humble.. I am very inspired by her! Very good!

  • It takes a genius to compose such thing,,,

  • what a beautiful player

(Silvano G. Bernasconi, pianista e compositore)

  • Grandeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

  • the most musical of this competition the rest are machines!!

  • What a beautiful sound she has!

  • She didn't win....what a shame....

  • Not Chopin's best day- at best, an example of Chopin's formative ideas-

This is an example of what not to do~~> taking an audience to school- very boring

  • I heard Vacatello live in SIPCA '08. She didn't get past the semifinals, and I suspect because her Beethoven op. 109 is too pretty and not gutsy enough. Anyway, I don't think it's obvious in this video, but she has the MOST gorgeous sound of all the competitors. Her Chopin Scherzo 4 at that time was just amazing. And to play the whole Liszt Paganini Etudes, and Ravel Gaspard...she really knows how to play the piano!

  • Dear Mariangela - you played superbly - with much feeling. Just ignore those comments which are designed to hurt.

In my books you are a winner !! Many thanks.!!

  • An arresting interpretation

  • She looks like an old woman......

  • Very good performance. I wonder about all the effort it looks like she is putting into the performance (which is understandable). I've seen Horowitz play it (a video is available) and he just seems to holds his arms and hands nearly steady, in contrast.

Also one seldom sees in these reviews the genius of the composer who strung all these wonderful notes together.

  • Pianista solidissima, come pochi.

  • does she play on the same piano as Bozhanov ?

  • cara ellini, devo darti ragione.

  • Why she didn't won the competition,I can't believe it.

  • why she didn't WIN the ...

    ciao R

  • Wonderful playing

  • This gal should have been one of the two semi-finalists, if not the outright finalist. But what can we do? There s talent and musical genius coming out of the woodwork of the world as never before and things are going to get even tighter, so even great artists will be shut down and possibly, will never be heard from again

  • I really thought she should have moved further in the Sydney Competition, so its good to know that she made it to the finals in fort Worth

  • I must say as well that I am pulling your leg as a

viewer and listener. I live distaff commentary.

Uchida & Yo Yo Ma are amongst my favorite musicians also years ago I had tears from the great Violinist

Kyung Wha Chung at performance .

To the commentator that said I may hit on a" rich

Asian"....... I may be one myself!

By the way I really do love New York you would

be unable to find the races so mixed in any other

city in China,Japan or Korea. no way,no how.

Perhaps in a 150 years ,not now.

  • I should have said Western Classical music is not native to Asian's as it is to Europeans & Russians

and the children here (USA) of European ancestry.

Westerner's cannot play native Chinese or Japanese classical music either, nor would they usually wish too.

We do not have factories making violins bound by

snakeskin here. In China they copy European violins

and as copies make them by the thousands.

The post-WW2 era produced many pro-Western Asian's leaving there own historic culture.

  • saw her live at SIPCA and she was great there she is truly talented.

  • Bravissima Mariangela! E' sempre un grande piacere sentirti suonare. Ti meriti il meglio. Un abbraccio

  • So beautiful!!!

  • ladies and gentlemen

please keep all the comments positive

the art of piano is sheer beauty

If you wish to be cut throat go to a practice room and keep it to yourself

REAL musicians at any level who are secure with themselves do not need the anti-asian talk or anything else

the Van Cliburn competition was superb and all were artists in their own right

Mariangela is beautiful and Hoachen Zhaong's Prokofiev Concerto and Brahms Variations were breathtaking.

Keep it positive --all of you!

  • Splendida! ♥

  • Please just keep quiet and listen...newyorkernut3 can go peddling in NYC. You might hit a rich Asian...

  • The Asians give a lot of money to have their

musicians heard in "the right" places especially

    in NYC.

This is not native music to them but they are great

    copyists.

  • maybe it is because there is currently a huge interest in classical music in Asia and people they are incredibly dedicated and hardworking. btw Im pretty sure that classical music isnt 'native' to Americans either.

  • Music is as native to Asians as it is to anybody. They have long, multi-generational musical families -- to say nothing about the unversal language that is music. Some of the leading musicians in the world are Asian, including conductors, pianists, string players, singers, composers and more. Even their university and conservatory orchestras are superb -- as good or better than many in the US and Europe.

  • Cultivated and true.

She is such a fine musician. Everything she does is so measured and masterful - beautifully placed. Wonderful!

  • are you serious? the only way to win is to become a young asian guy? how shallow do you think you are to say such words? i just cannot believe some of the comments posted here in these videos

  • she is such a powerful italian woman and pianist! luv her! i wish she won :\

  • She is already an artist. She didn't have to compete with other youngsters. I guess those fluffy American juries didn't understand the beauty of Italian pianism. This is so beautiful.

  • Ummm-the jury was not "fluffy American "

    as you say

Italy, Israel, the USA, Russian and France and China were represented

If you were there you would have felt the positive energy as opposed to your negative comments. The playing was superb by all and Mariangella is a humble person--perhaps the DeLarrocha of our generation in terms of presence and nuance.

  • stunning. the difference is, she doesnt consider her playing to be greater or of more importance than the music..

  • the best preformer I've heard so far in this competition.

  • Oldest performer at Van Cliburn 2009, (27 o_0) and she went far!

  • I would have given her the first prize - she is so extraordinarily musical. This Chopin Rondo, on the other hand, is not the best piece of music.

  • ye, But obviously the jury wont let anyone with great musicality win.. Yundi Li was really not my favourit in the Chopin-competition, and nog Zhang. The only way to win is to become a young asian guy =/

  • MAGNIFICO!!!!

  • Yes

  • she has to win! she is really the best

  • Wonderful!!!

  • Wow! Super performance!

  • She surely should get one of the prizes.

  • What a beautiful performance! Inspiring!

  • I don't think she will win, but she won't be far: 2nd or 3rd prize is my guess......

  • WOW amazing, she will be the winner..

  • Bravo! I would support her and Mr. Tsujii and Ms. Wu to be prize winners, although I've not heard their concerti..

  • great performance, technically flawless (as far is i can judge) and inspiringly musical.
