  • Do you know if there were other licensed characters used with these machines? When I was growing up in the 80's, there was a mall that had what I called a "Flintstones Phone" that my dad would take me to occasionally. I don't have clear memories of what exactly it did or looked like, just that one day he took me and it was gone.

  • @WickedWonder1979 Kiddierama featured primarily Walter Lantz and Terrytoon but there were other brands of booths too. It is possible an operator could have "doctored" up their film cartridge with a Disney or HB though. I saw a Flintstones phone on eBay in the past year or so. I contacted the seller but the auction was ended in less than 24 hours. I'll have to check but I think I archived some photos of it as I remembered one from long ago too.

  • @flix2view the character in question would be Inspector Willoughby.

  • I remember these from the early 80s. They were in malls and some grocery stores I think; kids used to go in here if they were bored. I never liked the cartoons but I liked going into a box and pressing the button. Sometimes a quarter wasn't even needed; you just pressed the button. I hated it when there was no sound. Also I never knew who that character was with the mustache and grey suit.

  • You are so lucky, I've wanted to get my hands on one of these for so long. My mom used to sit me in here and let me watch cartoons while she shopped. Such great memories.

  • WOW! I rember one of these cartoon booth used to be in leos witch it now co-op stores when i was about 3 and my brother was about 6. Our mum use put a £1 coin in the coin slot and we use to watch cartoons e.g. Heckcukle and Jecukle.

  • WOW I remember it used to be in my local supermarket it was called Leos and my and my brother use to sit inside it and our mum would put £1 into the coin slot and while her and my grandmother around the supermarket my and brother watch the cartoon in the booth. Most of the time it use to be a tex avery or heckule and jeckale cartoon. Now the video booth it in hollywood bowl in red dragon centre in cardiff.

  • Absolutely awesome! I would dearly love to own one of these. So many fond memories.

  • I have one that uses a Fairchild moviepak seventy cartridge, but you dont sit down to watch.. My cartridge doesnt work, but looks similar to yours. Do you have a service manual for your cartridge? I need the tape layout section so I can re-thread mine.

  • I just sent a reply to your email you sent through my website.

  • I always wondered what happened to these machines. The last time I saw one was in a mall around 1994-95 but it was "Out Of Order". It was one of the white ones with a red roof that played Terrytoons exclusively. 25cents got you one of six 3&1/2 minute cartoons. I mention these machines to friends and they just scratch their heads. Then I show them this video and wait for the reaction: "Oh! Wow! I remember these!" Thanks so much for posting this video. A great childhood memory!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!

    Awesome memories!!!

  • Thank you! I remember using one of these at the mall when I was really young. I barely remember it, but it was such a beautiful memory that it has stuck with me for years.

  • This is one of the coolest memories of my childhood. Thanks for tracking this thing down and posting the video.

  • Thank you for posting. I too have very fond memories of these and I'm still stunned on how I found this one. Someday I get around to restoring and then post better vids of it.
