Of course, Stalin and Dawkins don't actually share a common manual of doctrine that explicitly commands them to murder people. Even the "peaceful Quakers" do in fact have this, and part of taking the criticism seriously would involve rewriting the religious texts to contain only the stuff you're actually claiming to follow. At that point you might be able to demand a distinction, because you're conceivably no longer functioning as a shield for harmful doctrine.
