my HS weight room has FOUR bumper plates. 4. Everything else is just fitness club machines and 3 power cages ONLY used for bench press. Oh, we have some dumbells too. Needless to say our football team when 2-7 last year. I wonder why? Maybe it's because we have atheltes that only know how to bench?? this is why I have a gym membership
my high school weight room is better than this xP LOL n we got beastier guys n girls(like meh) lol the overhead squats were wah wah waaah just the bar common on now lol good job though ^-^ im envyous of your chalk though -_- lol
I don't think my HS had bumper plates. But then again I didn't step inside a power rack til senior year of college, so a fine facility like probably would have been waste on me back then.
HOLY CRAP!! Just WOW! If every American high school had an amazing gym such as this, we would attract a huge pool of weightlifters and win medals in Olympic Weightlifting every four years. Very impresive. Also, you want to talk about getting kids off drugs and gangs? Here is the answer. Great job, Sacramento HS and great job Coach Doherty!
I'm not only impressed with the gym itself, but the fact that someone there knows proper technique and is teaching it to the athletes Really fine work here...
Wow! This is some real weightlifting. These guys and girls are amazing. This type of training is missing in todays American high schools. So proud of these guys for their lifting.
Hopefully Sac High isnt as ghetto as it was back when I was in high school. I remember playing Sac high is sports and thinking they look like a bunch of teenage gangsters.
I been going to the gym a while, but I never did this exercise before, it looks incredibly dangerous to me, because of how abrupt the final step is, you could lose balance if the weight is too much I feel.

While I definitely respect them teaching kids to lift weights and be healthy, the way they drop weights is incredibly unsafe. Good form does not include dropping heavy weights and potentially damaging the equipment or people.
@petrifiedsap Rubberized plates are designed to be dropped after lift. Watch Olympic weightlifting competitions. All lifts are dropped after completion.
I'm jelly. So soo soooo jelly. That is what my perfect gym looks like.

Umm, why isn't every high school weight room like this? I mean, the girls in this video have better form than every guy at my school.

I'd pay good money to train at a facility like this instead of the commercial gyms we have in my neck of the woods. Oly lifting = pure win.

I thought the whole point of weight lifting was also to lower the weights back down to the floor.

@zerogutter Thanks for letting me know; none of the gyms I have used have had rubberized plates, so seeing folks drop weights makes me nervous.
