In 1949, the military academy at Dalat was created, in the model of St Cyr, to train future officers for the Republic of Vietnam under Bao Dai. In 1951 General de Lattre de Tassigny made an appeal to Vietnamese youth at Chasseloup Laubat to join with the French to fight against the Vietminh.
The army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) would last for 25 years before it was defeated by Vo Nguyen Giap army in 1975.
