  • awesome gig from the ruts and great performance from henry

  • Henry is fucking INTENSE!

  • Great, great, great!

  • rollins' energy on stage is unmatched by anyone I've ever seen

  • Henry you fucking lucky bitch. The rest of us aging punk rock lead singers are jumping out of our skin wishing we were you.

  • I came to this video after watching all four parts of Henry Rollins talking about his experience with this gig, and practicing, etc., which was actually really moving. Great band, great performance all-around.

  • Paul Fox was so ill at this point its truly amazing that hi did this gig, RIP

  • this was on my birthday. I was fucking gutted that I couldn't go :/

  • Ladies and gentlemen, you're watching one of the most memorable moments in punk history. This legitimized everything. RIP Paul Fox.

  • Love henry Rollins,love the Ruts.Joy.

  • Great performance from Paul Fox ! He's was in great form for somebody so sick.

    Thanks Henry for being you.

  • Hey,

I just watched Henrys story on this man I ask and please don't be upset about this but which on is paul?

  • @oktoberK He played the guitar on the right.

  • as henry said on his comedy stand up - they didnt cover up his lousy voice, but stil uber positive action and an event that everyone shouldve been a part of and those that didnt (me included) should regret a lot.

  • anyone remember Paul Fox with "Fluffy Kittens"? Saw them in Brighton mid 90s.Mr Fox asked me if I had any puff-I must've looked the part(!).I obliged-I s'pose I was a little bit starstruck(stupid.I know). So I sorted him out a blim.Very sad to hear of his passing.

  • I would give one of my arms away if I could travel back in time and go to that gig.

  • Rollins for president.

  • wow hes a amazing guitarist sad he died

  • This is such an awesome performance! The Ruts sound so good, so tight. Its so difficult to think that Paul Fox died some 100 or so days after this. That man played his heart out and died with a dignity so few achieve. Fuck you guys who slate Henry - he was exceptional and he gave 190% as always. The Ruts will live forever. Long live The Ruts!

  • rollins is the man.

  • Or he could always be a faceless insult poster on youtube. Come on, Hnery Rollins at least tried something. All you're doing is shitting on his attempt to do so.

You don't like him? Fine. Stay away from him and anything involving him. I've found the best way to draw attention to something is comment on it, speak up, say something.

But personally I think he made a good job of things. What would you rather have, some idiot who didn't care about the music or the legacy of The Ruts?

  • @DaemonNinja I'm not a Rollins fan but he did the band justice that night, he was great.

  • @DaemonNinja Well Said!!!!!

  • the Ruts asked him personally to do this.....don't be jelous cause you ain't done shit.....

  • any other pearls of wisdom you'd like to share with us mr einstein?

  • They asked him to sing with them. The Ruts chose Henry to help them reform for one last night. I think that is amazingly brave of him to try and fill aa huge void. I think he did the best he could do. I find that commendable, come on its not like Jello Biafra could have filled in. Of the old school punkers he's the closest thing they have.

  • He was INVITED BY THE BAND!!!! YOU BRAINLESS SOT!!!!!

  • Great performance. Is this gig available on DVD?

  • The whole thing together with UK Subs, Damned, TV Smith, Misty in Roots et al is available on a professionally videoed DVD (not my mush pit efforts) from the therutsofficialpage on myspace with all proceeds to charity - I can recommend it!

    Cheers

  • The first live band I ever saw when they supported The Damned - f*cking amazing - I still remember Malcolm jumping into the crowd and getting carried around the mosh pit by a load of pogoing punks - that was nearly 30 yrs ago!!

  • rip foxy rip raven all the the top boys are going . quality vid cheers .

  • great

  • Thanks so much for posting this!

  • I saw the Ruts in Bristol but I envy those who were there this night.

  • i met henry rollins tonight...he made me cry talking about this night

  • It is rather amazing that there were not too many of us that loved this band back then...think about what the world missed out on because of our haircuts and negative media accounts. Still makes me laugh. I will always love this band. Thanks Henry for at least trying...

  • I'm English and Ruts are one of my favourite ever bands. Hats off to Henry and also Paul Fox, you were a genius and we'll never forget you man, or Malcom! RIP and keep up the mayhem! Was it Something?!

  • R.I.P Foxy, I'm glad I got to see you perform here

  • holy shit, i just saw rollins at the vic in chicago on the 19th talking about these dudes

  • Sad, but not unexpected news, today (21/10/07): PAUL FOX OF THE RUTS DIES AGED 56

"Legendary guitarist, Paul Fox, died at home in Uxbridge at 3AM this morning.

Paul leaves behind his sons Lawrence and William and his wife, Sharon.

    He will be dearly missed."

  • Ya I just heard, thats why I came to hear the music. What great guitar playin and went out on his feet!

  • Saw Henry in Boston last night and he spoke about this gig at length. His memory of the start of this song was more dramatic than the actual start..but they still kicked serious ass.

  • I think Henry's memory is right - I cannot remember such an intense gig before, the crowd chanting for Foxy, and a UK audience not entirely on Henry's side and doubting that he could pull it off... he did pull it off in fine style as you can see, but my video probably doesn't capture the complete drama

  • Well what I mean to say is Henry's version of the song start is more rocking than the way it went down. According to the story he told us as soon as he hit the D in the word "said" when announcing the song Foxy hit the first chord of the intro and they were off like a rocket. It's a bit less flashy the way it actually went down. I figure Henry was half floating due to nerves and by his own admission doesn't remember parts of the night. Still kicked ass though :)

  • I see what you mean - a bit of artistic license! Still crackin' gig!

    Cheers

  • I saw Henry do a spoken word gig in NJ on 10/4/07 where he gave a nice history of how this gig came together---thanks for posting this. This is amazing stuff.

  • This rules!

    ...but I'm afraid for Henry's pants =(

  • Wow! Great combo. I like Henry alot better in the Ruts. Thank you Alan.

  • Hey...Hoping Foxy's well enough for the Ruts date at Rebellion this weekend...Anyone got any idea who's down for vox duties this time ?? Cheers

  • Sadly he was too ill. I am not sure who the guy was who did the singing but I think he was the regular bloke from Foxy's Ruts

  • To bloater999: the guys singing is.... Henry Rollins...

And if you don't know who Henry Rollins is...

  • ??? I know - was it something that I said?

  • If you take a moment to READ bloater999 and 7kopite7's original posts, they were NOT referring to the gig in the video, but the gig at Rebellion, at which Rollins was NOT the singer. Please try to have all your ducks in a row before taking a dig at someone's intelligence in the future.

    Cheers

P.S. Rollins is a guy (singular) not a guys (plural)

  • Can't find the original post but I am sure I didn't mean to take a dig - my apologises if it read that way!

  • I wasn't accusing YOU of taking a dig at someone, that was directed at hustler0204, and the way he said "And if you don't know who Henry Rollins is... ". It just carried an air of smugness to it. Dunno, could just be my interpretation.

  • Blimey sorry I can see that now - kinda appropriate for 'Something that I Said' mind you!

    Cheers

  • Superb stuff mate

  • FUCK I would have killed to have been there

  • I cut off my own body parts for money at--> w'w'w(.)i c u t o f f (.)com

  • Please do a benefit tour!, including north east england!

  • Tried to reply to your note, but you've applied 'Friend Lock' apparently which means I can't send it you!... I'm not connected to the band you need to conatct Paul Fox via his myspace page, but a tour is unlikely as he's very ill

  • ok mate, i'll sort it, i'll send you my e-mail, very sorry for paul, the guy is a legend along with the rest of the band, as morbid as this may sound, i hope to god he doesnt suffer!, lots of respect xxx

  • Just back after a week away - will respond soon!

    Cheers

  • I remember seeing The Ruts support The Ants in London

at the Lyceum& they were rubbish.I saw them 2 days later at the Standard in Bradford & it was one of the best gigs i ever went to.Guess they prefered it up close & personal. The Damned & not -Sensible in particular have been a joke since 78 why would you want him to spoil a decent band?

  • Man what a great night, if in a bit sad circumstances. It looked like foxy was really chuffed, great atmos all evening, but when The Ruts played through, the roof. Just really made up about going. Shine on Foxy

  • Cheers big man , wicked night, Ruts & Rollins - Rollins is a huge Ruts fan & was happy to be there as us ! He did a great job leading the sing a long & should be praised (sticks!!)payed his own air fair to be here ! Thanks to all concerned ..Gwan Foxy

  • That there was a near religious experience for me...

    thanx.

The Ruts AND Henry Rollins.. I'm in tears.

  • Hey SticksDiary. I too had my doubts until they hit the stage. Henry is a huge ruts fan & was truly awesome. Might I suggest you watch this again with your eyes & ears open.

  • Great to see the Ruts playing, but why the fuck get Rollins to sing,i reckon they should of got someone like Captain Sensible to sing, the Damned are known for playing the odd Ruts tune now and then.

Great effort with the video thanks.

  • They got Rollins to sing because Rollins is like their biggest fan, and they knew he'd give it his best. It's what Paul and the guys wanted.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • Hey Zimprods

Well done the sound was mostly excellant all nite, though way too quiet. I guess that was down to the venue. i love the way Rollins is dying to get it going & The Ruts won't be rushed. Wot a nite. Shine on Foxy X X X

  • yo guys,i run foxys ruts myspace and he is my close buddy.i will put these vids on the myspace page for all the fans who couldn,t get it.awsome gig and ol foxy was well happy.respect to ya all.

  • I only used a small camera so had limited disc space; the only song I have that I've not yet loaded by the Ruts is 'West One' (and I have half of Jah War..)

I guess we'll have to wait for the official video - I assume they'll be using your mixing desk sound too for that one so should be very special!

  • I'll find out. Great sound on your cam, West One please .....

  • Awesome, thanks. I was doing the sound and couldn't see much.

    What a blast !!!

  • Well you did a bloody good job it sounded great!
